The first available time slot there is in November. Then they will have to hope that the Danish embassy can evaluate their application and issue the visa in the time left. The Danish Embassy in Bangkok issued on 17 June for the second time a warning about the long processing time for visa applications to Denmark and Iceland. The embassy explained that the problem is an unusually high volume of applications without giving any numbers. “We strongly encourage applicants to apply as early as possible,” the Embassy writes. “It is possible to apply up to 6 months before the desired entry to Denmark/Iceland. Applicants who wish to travel to Denmark/Iceland for the Christmas period may already now consider initiating their applications,” the Danish Embassy adds. Has the rainy season arrived in Thailand at last? OPINION | by Michael Bridge Last night for at least three hours a massive storm hit most of Pattaya with thunder and lightning along with torrential rain. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1263665-has-the-rainy-season-arrived-in-thailand-at-last/ -
OPINION | by Michael Bridge Last night for at least three hours a massive storm hit most of Pattaya with thunder and lightning along with torrential rain. Strong winds played havoc with trees and debris left this morning and severe flooding was reported in numerous places too. In my case the rain aided by the strong winds managed to flood my condo on the 6th floor, as the water came through the front door. Apparently, more storms are predicted, and the week ahead is forecasted to bring rain on most days. Climate Change So, with the weather patterns changing around the world, whereas California and Australia suffer from bush fires, here in Thailand we will have to get used to a few tropical downpours. Thailand is exceptionally vulnerable to small changes in climate: slightly warmer surface temperatures will destroy the rice crops that feed the population and bolster the economy, and a few centimeters of sea level rise will submerge the capital city and devastate coastal tourism. Thailand's summer will continue to be hotter than the same period last year, according to the Meteorological Department. “It will be about one or two degrees Celsius hotter,” the department's director-general Phuwieng Prakhammintara said on Friday. Unlike the north, however, the southern region of Thailand does not receive the cool monsoon breezes during the dry season, resulting in a climate that generally always feels hot and humid. The past few days have seen very high temperatures, so it is not surprising that we are experiencing thunder and lightning and rain. Thailand has seen a marked increase in temperatures and changes in rainfall patterns over the past thirty years. Does Thailand ever get cold? Apparently, the coldest temperature ever recorded in Bangkok was 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius), and that was back in 1955. Cool-season temperatures are generally around 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius), so it's no surprise that it's such a favorite time to visit. Of course, up in Northern Thailand according to Thailand's national weather archives, it did snow, once! The only ever official snow recorded in Thailand was in Chiang Rai on 7th January 1955. According to the notice on this picture, the snow (sort of) came after rainfall at 6pm. Still with this crazy climate change maybe they will start to open a ski resort in Chiang Rai soon!!!! -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Bangkok Unveils Plan to Combat Dust Pollution by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Bangkok has unveiled a plan to improve the city’s ability to deal with ultra-fine particulate matter, noting that more accurate and transparent data on dust sources is essential to its success. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1263588-bangkok-unveils-plan-to-combat-dust-pollution/ -
by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Bangkok has unveiled a plan to improve the city’s ability to deal with ultra-fine particulate matter, noting that more accurate and transparent data on dust sources is essential to its success. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said a digital platform will be used to disseminate to the public information such as the amount of toxic fumes produced by factories and the response of each district office to sources of air pollution. At a recent meeting, he said efforts to address the PM2.5 issue in the nation’s capital will gain momentum once sufficient access to this data is available. He added that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is collaborating with universities to analyze and identify the major sources of PM2.5 in the city, as well as to discuss prompt and effective solutions to the problem with relevant government agencies. According to the governor, the BMA is also monitoring the implementation of measures launched on June 10 by the Department of Industrial Works that require factories to disclose data on their pollution levels, as well as a recent public campaign urging motorists to switch to public transportation and for Bangkok residents to plant more trees whenever possible. The agency is now planning to increase the number of PM2.5 measuring stations in the city from 50 to at least 1,000 in order to improve data reporting accuracy. Additionally, the BMA has begun distributing free face masks to vulnerable groups capable of protecting against PM2.5 and communicable diseases, as well as instructing schools and hospitals to establish safe zones or particulate-free areas to shelter personnel and students when PM2.5 levels are particularly high, typically between November and March. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-06-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
