  2. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported that a contingent of officers from the Economic Crime Division arrested Permsak, 48, on a Nonthaburi court warrant issued in November 2008 on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm. He was arrested in Nong Bua sub-district of Samut Sakhon in central Thailand. Back in 2017 the suspect had a violent argument with another man causing a grievous injury then later attacked him again with a beer bottle after which a report was filed with the Rattanathibet, Nonthaburi police. The arrest was notable because the suspect was arrested just one day before the statute of limitations on the offence ran out. The ECD took him into custody. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 4. ASEAN NOW caption: Thai red plate parking! Sanook reported on a TikTok post by chakit_j who posted a short video of some appalling parking at a department store lot. The white car had a red plate meaning it was brand new and perhaps indicating that the driver was a novice. The car's rear end was sticking out making it hard for other drivers to get past while the front occupied just part of the allotted space. Netizens commented in droves with many thinking that the new driver had abandoned their car until later having no clue how to extricate it from that position next to a pillar. Others just wondered out loud if the driver had ever passed a Thai driving test. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 8. Daily News Thai Caption: Teachers living it up! Daily News reported on what is known in Thailand as an online drama - outrage expressed by netizens after a post on social media. This one involved a seven day/six night "staff development" trip by a group of teachers from a school in Nakhon Sri Thammarat in the south. Picture: Daily News The post appeared to have been made by a person determined to expose teachers having a jolly good time when students get very little, notes ASEAN NOW. The post on a site that translates as "Watchdog Operation" might have been made by a parent. The trip started with a stay in a hotel in Bangkok then a couple of lightning visits to schools in Bang Sue in the Thai capital then one in Phetchabun. Picture: Daily News Then the "staff development" really began with pictures at a beauty spot, chilling at a coffee shop, a visit to a temple to make merit, time in Chiang Khan in Loei to see the "sea of fog" followed by relaxation at a "walking street club" at a resort on the banks of the Mekong. Picture: Daily News Then came a trip to the "sky walk" where the teachers posted that they preferred mountains to beaches anytime. There was till time for some clubbing in Lopburi, a visit to a dam then some more dancing. The first comment summed up the drama. Picture: Daily News A poster got 135 likes for observing that while the teachers were "living the life of Riley" on their junket the kids back at school had a 20 baht daily budget for their lunch. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Weerayuth, 26, a Grab rider on the way to see his daughter, was chased by two men on another bike from the Suan Somdej intersection to the end of Soi Tiwanon- Pak Kret 24. The men responsible were Natheethorn, 24, the rider and Nampetch, 19, who was wielding a 30 cm long weapon. Picture: Daily News Weerayuth said that he had been stopped at the lights and thereafter the two men had pulled alongside him and looked at him and he had looked at them thinking he might know them. Without saying anything the sword was wielded at him once then aimed again at his waist. He avoided injury because it hit the belt of his bag breaking it. They all then came off their bikes with the assailants hitting the back of a pick-up before police took them into custody. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 14. The Student Loan Fund (SLF) is dismissing calls for it to write off 337 billion baht of loans taken by students to fund their education. Over the past few weeks, thousands of people have been pushing for their student debt to be forgiven. The campaign, run under the hashtag #SLFdebtforgiveness, claims that canceling their debt would combat social inequality and support people’s efforts to improve their lives. However, not everyone is convinced by this argument. “Forgiving loans will not improve people’s access to education,” SLF manager Chainarong Katchapanan said. “On the contrary, it will deprive the younger generation of opportunities that SLF can provide.” Full story: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/to-write-off-or-not-to-write-off-two-sides-of-student-loan-repayment-battle/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2022-08-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 18. Thai Rath reported on developments in the case against a woman in the police with military connections who is in a relationship with a senator. ASEAN NOW reported last week that an employee of the woman had gone to the police to report a litany of cruel and barbaric treatment including electric shocks. This happened over several years. Now the Thai media are suggesting that the employer is the "gik" or mia noi (mistress) of a senator in the House. Yesterday former democrat MP Watchara Petchthong presented a complaint box to the Senate President Pornpetch Wichitchonchai that demanded an end to parliamentary privilege for the senator concerned. Watchara wanted a committee set up to investigate whether the senator had misued his position to interfere with the issuing of military or police promotions. He wanted this resolved in the next 15 days. He also wanted to know if the senator was involved in his mistress's alleged wrongdoings. The mistress has the position of police corporal. Earlier it was claimed that this woman had used her connections to secure a military position for the alleged victim of the abuse. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 20. Picture: Thai Rath The wealthy salon owner who murdered a couple outside his shop in Lotus Pathum Thani on Saturday after a disagreement over a haircut has been bailed by the court in the sum of 500,000 baht. He will also need to wear an EM anklet. The grown up step daughter of one of his victims has said there will be no forgiveness from her while she expressed faith in the Thai courts and justice system. Police had opposed bail. Thai Rath reported on the latest developments in the shocking case yesterday ahead of the court's decision in the afternoon. Pol Lt-Col Kawee Chuaysang, the Pak Klong Rangsit officer in charge of the case, said that Prasat Rangyai or "Sia Lek" was due to appear in court for procedings via video conference and that he was aware that his wife was ready with one million baht in cash to bail him out. It was up to the court's discretion but the police - who oppose bail - were ready to abide by their decision. He said that the assailant had not wanted to see the couple with whom he had had discussions regarding the haircut over the phone. The haircut had happened previously to Saturday. The idea that extensions could rectify the issue had also been raised over the phone though this appeared not to be a viable option. On the day in question he had ordered them out of the shop because they were making a scene. The original cut had been 250 baht. Picture: Thai Rath He said he had invested one million baht in the business. He said he met them at the front of the shop after arriving at Lotus on a motorcycle. The couple announced they planned to sue the department store and had engaged a lawyer to act on their behalf. According to Kawee the assailant then said "You want to die?" to the couple. At this point the woman rushed up to him but he was prepared with a kitchen knife and stabbed her once. The man then rushed him and he was also stabbed once. He then fled on the motorcycle. The Thai Rath article made it clear that the assailant had come equipped with the knife. Yesterday Kritchaporn or Pingpong, aged 20, who is the stepdaughter of the man who was killed and the daughter of the woman was at the police station. She wanted to get her stepfather's phone to give to his younger biological child who was at the scene of the murders on Saturday. (Earlier reports named this child as 5 or 8, Thai Rath didn't say, notes ASEAN NOW). The couple were named as Warisa Wimoonrakchart or Nok and Weerapong Phumphreuk or Bob. In previous reports on ASEAN NOW they were given the ages 41 and 40 respectively. Picture: Thai Rath Pingpong told reporters that her mother had received a haircut that was too short - no one in the family cut their hair short. She said that she would have no forgiveness ever for the man who had killed her mother and stepfather. She said she believed in fate or retribution and Thai justice and the courts. Then at 3.30 pm came the news that Prasat had been granted bail by the Pathum Thani court in the sum of 500,000 baht. Police then took him to the court where documentation was being finalized and he would be fitted with the electronic monitoring device, that is usually an anklet. He had no comment to reporters on his way out of the police station. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
