Car seats: Traders and parents worried about new law - top doc says make sure you buy a good one Picture: Thai Rath Thailand's news media continued to report on car seats for children after changes to the law have been announced. 8. Picture: Thai Rath Thailand's news media continued to report on car seats for children after changes to the law have been announced. By the beginning of September after a 120 day waiting period following an announcement in the Government Gazette, parents must secure children aged less than 6 using a car seat or face a 2,000 baht fine. Devices known as booster seats can also be used for older children. Thai Rath went to Robinson's in Prachinburi where there is the only car seat retailer in the area. Staff noted that inquiries about car seats were up 10% since the news broke. Most customers were concerned about fitting the seats in older pick-ups with many having to install seat belts to secure the car seats in the first place. Others were concerned about those with large numbers of children being unable to cope. And of course the cost of the seats was a major factor for those on low incomes - in the store seats were available for about 2,000 to 12,000 baht. Mum Prarathana, 29, said she has three children, two under 6. She said the law change was a good idea but she would wait and see if the law was actually enforced. She told reporters that her children are always secured with regular seat belts. Retail spokesman Panyaphon said there were supply problems. He helpfully stated that if a family had two kids and needed two seats at 2,000 baht that would be 4,000 baht. Meanwhile Dr Opas Kankawinpong of the Department of Disease Control - a top doctor involved in the pandemic - took time off Covid-19 to comment on the issue. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Picture: INN In comments reported by INN he said that parents should make sure they get a seat from a good manufacturer and make sure it is appropriate for the age and weight of their child or children. He said that newborns to 3 year olds should face rearwards while 2-6 year olds can face forwards. Older children can use booster seats, he said. He said they would save lives in accidents but did not comment on the costs involved. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-05-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 10. Daily News Thai Caption: Five year old survives Daily News was the first media to mention car seats for children after a terrible smash in the north east that claimed the life of a mother. Despite there being no car seat her five year old son survived with minor injuries in what the media called a miracle. Bandung police and rescue services found that a Yaris had plowed into a Hino ten wheeler parked by the side of the Bandung Sumsao Road. The truck was offloading building supplies at the time. Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Bunsong, 47, had gone to collect his wife Nichata, 44, from Muang district of Udon Thai on the way home to Wang Thong sub-district. All three survived the impact but Nichata died in Bandung Crown Prince Hospital. There was no car seat for children in the car with the media suggesting the boy had been on his mother's lap. Thailand's news media including ASEAN NOW has been reporting changes to the law this week that will see motorists having to install car seats for children aged under 6 within 120 days. Car seats have never been mentioned in accidents involving children in the past, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-05-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 16. Daily News Thai Caption: Solving traffic woes Daily News reported on a meeting held by metropolitan police chief Pol Lt-Gen Samran Nuanma ahead of the reopening of Thai schools in Bangkok next week. Some have gone back already but the bulk of students will be starting the first of two semesters next Tuesday, May 17th. The police said that 1,277 schools are going back with 800,000 pupils travelling from home. 2,000 traffic cops will be mobilized on Tuesday from 5 am. Special patrols will rove around in the case of rain or flooding adding to the potential gridlock. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe They will be concentrating on three areas notorious for traffic jams when the schools go back: Samsen and Ratchasima Roads, Sathorn and Silom and New Phetchaburi and Sukhumvit. In addition the police are pressing for construction companies working on projects on the roads to make sure that they have returned as much road space as they can to help with the traffic. ASEAN NOW notes that Bangkok's traffic is always noticeably worse when the schools go back. But what with continual closures caused by the pandemic the biannual mess over the last two years has been on the back burner. Next week will see if the police measures have any effect on the familiar gridlock in the Thai capital. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-05-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 21. DPM Jurin: Exporters Must Prepare for More Challenges from Global Uncertainties Krajangwit Johjit BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand will have to prepare for more challenges that will impact the Kingdom’s export sector, said Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1259411-dpm-jurin-exporters-must-prepare-for-more-challenges-from-global-uncertainties/
  22. by Krajangwit Johjit BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand will have to prepare for more challenges that will impact the Kingdom’s export sector, said Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit. His comment was heard at a recent seminar “Thailand’s Strategy: Creating Sustainability in the Global Stage.” He said that currently there are two major global factors affecting the export sector in Thailand. The first factor is the political divide and geopolitical issues that force countries to choose sides. This is becoming more apparent after the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Minister Jurin noted that two highly populated nations China and India will likely play a more crucial economic role in the future. It is necessary for Thailand to be able to navigate carefully in the new era, and continue to work with allies in the ASEAN bloc to improve its bargaining power. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe The second factor is non-tariff trade barriers such as international regulations on greenhouse gas emissions and the European Green Deal. These policies created the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and economies that wish to do business with the EU must conform to it. Furthermore, both the EU and the U.S. are planning to collect carbon taxes on several products, forcing Thai exporters to plan their moves carefully. Thailand has plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero emission by 2065. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-05-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
