Yala major Pongsak Yingchoncharoen explained that in November 2020 the Swiss ambassador had visited a learning park under construction. It was designed to promote learning among children youth and members of the public in general. The ambassador thought it would be a great idea to have a "Swiss Corner" in the park to promote international understanding and knowledge especially as the two countries were celebrating 90 years of cordial relations. Deputy governor Theerut Suphawiboonphol received ambassador Mrs Helene Budliger Artieda yesterday for the cutting of the ribbon. Mrs Artieda said she had been received by Khun Pongsak a couple of years ago and was impressed by the plans for the TK Park and was pleased to say there would now be a little bit of Switzerland in Yala. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 5. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath went to Khon Kaen yesterday afternoon on the first day when it was legal to grow marijuana at home. Their headline suggested that there was now no need to fear the police. People in Ban Nong Kham, Ban Ped sub-district, Muang district were very happy. They had brought out their plants that previously were hidden in back gardens or inside. Picture: Siam Rath They were loosening the soil, adding fetilizer, watering and most important of all getting the plants into the full sunlight to aid their growth. Most said they were not doing this commercially, they would add the plant to "Tom Kai" and "Tom Pla" to add flavor meaning MSG was now no longer necessary. Or they were using the plant to help with stress, diabetes or insomnia. Dr Phakdee Sapphiphat of the Khon Kaen Department of Health asked the public to inform the authorities if they are growing, how many plants and why. Though he acknowledged that if they didn't they were not breaking the law. He just wanted co-operation in the matter. He said that the actual law was a work in progress and everyone was waiting for the cabinet to come up with that. He said that the health department had been inundated with inquiries and he asked people to use an online app instead of calling. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 7. Cap: Daytime danger Sanook reported on an alarming case of alleged rape of a woman who works as a PR for an alcohol firm who claimed she was raped by a Bangkok area cabbie last Saturday morning in Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi. She has warned all women about getting into taxis especially if drunk even in the light of day. The driver - now in custody - denied rape and other charges laid against him. Sanook reported that the Bang Bua Thong police yesterday arrested Pholawat, 32, on a charge of forcible rape when the victim was unable to resist, drug taking (Class 1) and theft. He was picked up at his house in Khu Rat, Bang Bua Thong on a warrant. CCTV showed him picking up a woman dressed in a black outfit with black shots carrying a white bag at 8 am on June 4th on Kanchanaphisek Road outside Bang Yai City. A second piece of CCTV evidence was at 8.52 when the ride ended on the Bang Kruay to Sai Noi Road and she got out. "B" 28, said she works for an alcohol company as a PR woman. She was already drunk when she went to continue drinking at a friend's house in a housing estate in the area. Picture: Sanook At 7.40 am she decided to go home, got in a taxi and promptly passed out. She said that when she awoke her shorts and panties had been removed and she was lying on the back seat and the driver was raping her. After this he took her to the Bang Kruay to Sai Noi Road. Pholawat admitted taking her and said she had been asleep the whole way and he used his hand to try and wake her. But he got aroused and stroked her leg. He then went to a deserted area leading up to a snooker hall. She wouldn't wake up. He got into the back with her and removed her shorts and panties but then she woke up and said she was pregnant so he stopped and put her lower garments back on and just asked her to use her hand to make him climax. He claimed that as he was about to climax he pushed her hand away but she insisted on continuing. He said he was just a guy who got aroused and there was no forced rape involved. Picture: Sanook The victim said that she came up with the pregnant story to make him stop. She said that after the rape he took her to the main road and left stealing her phone. She then went to the police. She warned other women that even in broad daylight not to trust taxi drivers and this person was a menace to society who she intended to see prosecuted to the full extent of the law. She said that since the incident she has been on drugs to prevent disease and anti-depressants and has been unable to work for days what with the stress of it all. She was happy with the police's work but wished it had never happened. She wondered how such a man with so many charges against him could get a taxi licence. The driver denied all charges. He has been prosecuted in the past for a string of drug taking and drug possession charges in Taopoon, Chana Songkhram and Khok Kham police jurisdictions as well as a charge of breaking curfew. He was detained and police opposed bail. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 9. by Gregers Møller In the last few years, the global banking industry has been rocked on all sides by evolving market and consumer demands, shifting regulatory requirements, and the rise of new and innovative technology. These conditions are poised to change the shape of modern banking for the foreseeable future. Rather than being linear, transaction-based service providers, contemporary banks are under pressure to transform into complex, dynamic, and flexible entities that can adapt swiftly to an unpredictable financial environment. Banks today are facing a period of reckoning that requires them to reevaluate their current business models and prepare for an increasingly uncertain future. Many banks are specifically exploring technological upgrades in the interest of building a more agile, higher-performing core banking system. These upscaled systems will enable them to serve greater volumes of customers more efficiently, through more channels, and in a more personalized manner. To pull off a successful technological transformation, however, banks must first understand the banking industry’s present condition, as well as the many challenges facing the sector as a whole. The following insights, in particular, are essential for banks to know about the modern core banking landscape: Full story: https://scandasia.com/5-key-insights-for-navigating-the-current-landscape-of-core-banking/ -- © Copyright ScandAsia 2022-06-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 15. Sanook Thai Caption: Expensive shellfish drama Thaweep Saengkrajang - mayor of Thapong in Muang district Rayong - went to Mae Ramphung Beach to investigate after a foreigner went online to say they were ripped off when buying a plate of sea snails. They said they were charged 1,530 baht for Hoi Wan - a type of spotted sea snail known in English as Babylon snails, notes ASEAN NOW. The customer complained that they were charged more than a plate of lobster listed on the menu as 1,500 baht. It caused quite an online kerfuffle - known as a drama in Thai - and was bad for the traders on the beach presenting them in a poor light as they struggled to recover from the pandemic, reported Sanook. Picture: Sanook It was found to be a misunderstanding. The wholesale price of Hoi Wan is 750 - 850 baht and they are sold at 900 baht per kilo retail. Thanaree Krajangjaeng, 28, the owner of the restaurant at the center of the controversy said that the price was fair. The snails were sold alive and were much more expensive than a variety known as Hoi Wan Mak (หอยหวานหมาก) that are widely available in markets and which are much smaller, chewy and not sweet costing 300 baht a kilo. Those are sold already dead. Picture: Sanook "We don't take advantage of foreigners or Thais here," she said. "The price is all the same. If you're not sure about what you're buying just ask". This was all confirmed by a local fisherman called Ekachai Somngam, 57, who said that the smaller variety were sold in markets everywhere while the expensive ones were much harder to find. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Ltd and Pol Col Thanin Chatcharoenporn of the Ratchaburi provincial police along with local officers armed with a search warrant went to two rented shop units in downtown Ratchaburi. Verisec says online that it is Thailand's premier brand protection and commercial investigation consultancy, notes ASEAN NOW. The raid uncovered more than 20,000 items of pirated sports clothing including brand name items and fake English Premier League football shirts. Losses from the fakes total 58 million baht. Picture: Daily News Patthapong explained that his company had been trying to find the people behind an online sales platform called "100 laan thuuk dee jing" that translates as "100 million really cheap". He said that those responsible had moved around to four separate storage locations and that his organisation had found out they were now operating out of downtown Ratchaburi so they contacted the police to get a search warrant. Locals said that everyday people would come with lots of sacks of merchandise and it was clearly a highly profitable business. They didn't know what the items were in the storage facility. 19. Daily News Thai Caption: Why take that? A student in the north east of Thailand said he was completely "ngong" (confused or flummoxed) after two men approached, produced a knife and stole his school shirt. Kittiphat, 16, a vocational student said he was with two friends on a motorcycle going for lunch at 12.20 pm yesterday. At a T-junction in Ban Run of Bakdai sub-district, Surin, he said that two men aged about 20 on a Honda Wave asked them to stop. He thought they were going to ask him the way. The three were then ordered to get off their bike and one of the men then said: "What school shirt is that?" Kittiphat showed him the insignia and then the man ordered him to take it off. He held a knife to his chest and said: "Are you gonna do it nicely?" Kittiphat complied, then the men fled the scene with his shirt. He suffered no injury but was completely shaken up by the incident. So much so that he could barely remember what the assailants looked like. He said that neither he or his friends had any trouble with anyone and had never seen the men on the bike before. A report has been filed with the Phanom Dong Rak police who are investigating. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 23. Daily News Thai Caption: Ready for service An upbeat director of Bangkok's main airport Suvarnabhumi said that staff had been increased and the airport was ready to cope with 70,000 passengers daily this month. The PR exercise - along with a long video published by Daily News - came after huge queues were published on social media especially at the THAI desk. Daily News didn't mention this in their report concentrating instead on the comments of Kittipong Kittikhajorn, the director. He said that since the government eased restrictions in relation to Covid-19 starting on June 1st 70,000 passengers had been arriving daily at the airport. This comprised 42,000 international arrivals and 28,000 domestic. There had been 460 flights a day on average, 240 international and 220 domestic. Picture: Daily News He said that improvements had been made to increase efficiency with 318 counters now open for outbound travellers. There were 196 CUSS machines. These are not machines where people get angry and swear, notes ASEAN NOW - it stands for Common Use Self-Service. There are also 42 CUBDs - Common Use Baggage Drop machines. This would be enough, he claimed, and counters would be open for service up to three hours before departure. He said that extra airport staff were on standby for peak hours including extra staff at carry on baggage check and body check and handling traffic on the fourth floor and security. He said that he had been working with airlines and government agencies to ensure that the airport was Thailand's front door to the world helping to get the economy moving again. Inbound arrangements were not mentioned at all in this report. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
