  1. For 12,500 Baht you will get a nice room. Thai people are paying 2,500 Baht per month.
  2. I don't understand how would that scam work? Let's say I'm making concrete patio I and calculate that I need 4 cubic meters. I order 4. But they deliver 2. Half of my pour is empty and I instantly know that I was not given enough? With price 1800 Baht / 1 cubic meter everybody is ordering exactly how much they need. I don't see how could they get away with giving customers just half?
  3. Every time I come home drunk I swear to my wife I was forced to drink all that beer at gun point. But she never believes me. Finally I can show her the guy!
  4. I reconstructed the entire house by purchasing all the materials myself and paying people only for the work. However, I encountered a significant problem when trying to find someone who could do an exposed aggregate wall finish - although I see this work done at every second house around here. I eventually managed to find a guy who is offering to work for 500 Baht per 1 square meter (10 square feet), with materials included and purchased by him. I have two major concerns with this: 1) I don't like the idea of someone else (Thai) purchasing the materials, as they will choose cheapest crap available. 2) It seems expensive, considering it's just cement and gravel. I'm pretty sure my previous guy could do it cheaper using ceramic tiles material included? Does anyone know what are the prices in this sector?
  5. Seams reasonable for 8-12 hours a day 7 days a week with 4 days off per month.
  6. Currently I'm paying 700 baht/month to 3BB for home internet. But I also have internet in the telephone, which costs me 2000 Baht/year. So I could just share my mobile internet at the home and stop paying 3BB? Or maybe buy another SIM card with yearly internet and use some router that can handle SIM cards? It's not only about money, but I also have a lot of issues with 3BB and I have to every month drive to pay for it in cash. I just like my yearly mobile internet better. Does anybody use it like that?
  7. Yes, covid19 forced me to reinvent myself. I went from making many baht per month to making 0 (literally 0) per month. Living here for 8+ years, having wife, dog, house, car, nothing back in Europe... and no source of income to support myself here ... not knowing how to solve it ... it was very not funny situation to be in. So I was forced to reinvent myself. Luckily it worked. And it worked so well that I'm luckily in much better position than before covid19.
  8. Isaan, we are community of about 15 houses. Nobody is employed here, they are all farmers. They basically wake up at 4am and are constantly riding somewhere, chasing water buffalos, feeding cows and farming till 7pm, when they go to sleep. Very friendly people and ready to talk or help at any time. Especially grandpa next door who constantly gives us corn, isaan sweets and telling us to go take fruits out of his trees. Only one who stands out is this old guy with Alzheimer, who since 8am walks in circles around our houses, passing our house in 5 minutes intervals till 8pm. You can he see that he is totally out of it, he doesn't recognize where he is, he doesn't talk and you can see in his eyes that there's nobody inside. But if you change something slightly, like order pile of sand or put a box infront of the house he will stop and stares at it for couple of minutes completely confused. And then he goes back to walking circles. He is very quiet so he sometimes gives you a good scare, like you're fixing motorcycle on the road and you can feel like somebody is breathing next to your ear. You look back and he is bend over you watching you work. What is even more scary, sometimes he does his walks at 2am. And run into him quietly in the darkness with his empty eyes is horror movie material.
  9. This brings more questions than answers. Did he bought material and weld these boxes in advance? How did he get people inside of them? How did he drove it to the river? How did he throw it in? How was it found?
  10. I don't understand how people can say "this is it, since now I'm starting death count down and starting to skimp money till I die". I believe will have little projects, side kicks and even trying to make it big on my death bed day.
  11. Yeah, accidents happen and it can bankrupt you especially in USA. But it's most likely what you described, that people are living beyond their means (which I don't understand and can't relate to). I don't want to turn this into dick measuring competition because I would definitely lose. But for example right now I have like 7M - 12M in Bitcoin alone. And I drive 2015 Toyota worth 250k. While my neighbor has 1M car (Fortuner). And he is paying monthly payments (because he can't afford to pay 1M in cash) which will make him pay like 2M for that car. That's pure stupidity. Why? I don't make money in English or interested in your mom.
  12. It's a genie question. When I started university I also become self employed and was doing internet gigs on the side. When i finished university 5 years later I had more then 800k Bath in my bank account. And then I could finally concerate on making money and not wasting time studying. That's why simply can't grasp how some people could work for 40 years and they don't have 800k Baht in bank. Like what are you doing 16 hours a day for 40 years that result is 200 Baht in a bank?
  13. How can you be at retirement age and not having 800k in a bank? What were people like you doing all their life? I don't get this.
  14. That's why carry a stick with me and beat anybody who tries to speak Thai with me.
  15. There are three levels. 1. You buy material and build it yourself. 2. You buy material and pay workers just to put it together. This is what 99% of thais are doing. You are paying only their daily rate. 3. You let them buy material and pay for the result. This is what is considered very stupid in Thai society. Because they will choose cheapest of the cheap garbage possible and take shortcuts and their secret tricks how to make 1'' pole work even if it requires 4''. Then they add their own margin on bought material and pretend they payed for 4''. Yeah, nobody does this. Welding & concrete are my hobbies so very often I'm going 1. Sometimes, like putting down ceramic tiles, my skills are not good enough so I'm going 2. I never went 3 and I don't know anybody in my surroundings who would go 3.
  16. It was 'nah'. Last year it was definitely better. Bigger crowds. Fireworks were more colorful, longer and generally last years midnight more memorable.
  17. Come to live in Isaan village then. All my neighbors are farmers and are going to bed at 7pm.
  18. Aircon is about 10% of oil consumption. So you can take 500 Baht trip with no air con or 550 Baht trip with aircon.
