And will continue to be, unless serious issues are addressed, proper driving tests, and police enforcement of laws at all times to name two.

UNfortunately, you would have to start with reforming the police so that they do their jobs. A hopeless task in this country where even a military PM  with power is too scared to touch that mafia. The carnage will continue and society will continue paying for the injured.

I cancelled my New Year trip up north, lost the money on the flights, got a refund on the hire car and hadn’t booked the hotel yet. Hoping they will lockdown then I will get the flights refunded.

I have watched Europe and the USA all year and thought they were plain stupid for plane travel so it would also be stupid for me to do it now even though I was reluctant to cancel. I was also concerned about getting stuck up north if they locked down when I was there.

IMO they should lockdown over NEw Year. Most people have a week off anyway, just make them stay where they are, like they did at Songkran. That worked. There is more covid now in Thailand and the world than back then. If I was in charge I would call a two week lockdown tomorrow and then reassess. Hopefully nip it in the bud.

The problem with New Year is families and friends get crammed in together in the same car to travel. Only one has to have it, then it will spread to everyone in the car during the long drive. Then they all get out at the destination  and visit their various friends and families and it will spread further. Then they head back to work and further spread it. And all the oldies in the village will have it also.

To beat covid you have to social distance, not socialise.

i hope I am wrong but it could really be a disaster. Stupid to risk it for a holiday. Once numbers get past a certain level it will be impossible to eliminate like they did last time, and it will just be lockdown after lockdown just trying to contain it like in Europe and failing miserably.
Better to go hard, go fast IMO.

It wasn’t Prayuts idea to lockdown the first time, he was pressured into it. I hope they pressure him again but time is running out.

    My thought exactly.

it was reported by thai drs in the last few days they think mahachai and its workers whether burmese or thai have been infected some time so if hes correct then...........a lot of testing will find a lot of infections but no ones ill so it appears the people infected are too young to be sick badly or foreign so scared to test or cant afford it probably both.an elderly lady was sick and this has started the wider testing programme and as we track these infected folks we find more infected people,be interesting to see what a blanket test of 100k people would pick up in bkk.thais have plenty of money so use it,all that money saved on moon shots and subs pays for a lotta testing and vaccines then theres also the super rich who can donate

Those young people may not have symptoms, there are contagious nevertheless. As for the bikers and gamblers, they looked for it.

Burst tyres seems to becoming the new excuse,2nd one in a few days.

    regards Worgeordie

It may be the case but how you ever looked at tyres of trucks on the roads? Most of the time they are completely worn down with no more treads: truck company owners should be forced to have the tires checked and changed regularly but....you know TIT: never gonna happen. Better let accidents happen.

  5. The carnage will continue because the powers-that-be do not care to do what would really be needed, that is ENFORCE THE LAW regarding vans and bus safety equipment, force owners of truck, bus and van companies to pay their drivers by the MONTH , not by the number of trips, increase fines which should be paid ON THE SPOT otherwise IMPOUND the vehicle etc... but that of course supposes the police do their job (do I hear guffaws?)  and do not take bribes (stop laughing, please).

Meanwhile the richest 1% control 66% of the countries wealth! Why are there so many temples in Thailand???

Religion is just there to give oneself good conscience. There are lots of mosques in Saudi Arabia but foreign workers are treated like cattle, there are many churches in Europe but foreign workers are looked down in many places.

Terrible advice. I refuse to learn a language which consists of a tonal collection of grunts, squeals and squeaks.

The Thai language sounds like a gaggle of donkeys on amphetamines. Thailand's time as a cheap retirement paradise for expats, has run its course. After five miserable years here, I am setting my sights on the Philippines.they, at least, speak HUMAN English. I am not at all charmed by Thailand anymore.

I am surprised you could live for so many years in a country where people speak such a language. Do you think your language sounds better (I assume it is American English because only an American could have such a moronic view of a foreign language). Thailand will not be the poorer when you leave. I pity the Philippines, though.

The biggest factor contributing to the death toll here is lack of law enforcement.
Buy a few trucks, set up the road blocks and start pulling over bikes first. No license, bike in the back of the truck, issue the ticket to appear in court. No helmet, park the bike issue a ticket and walk home or get a helmet delivered or go buy one and get the bike back. Drink driving, confiscate the bike or car, cancel the license until court appearance. Have more highway patrol cars on the road actually pulling over dangerous drivers and according to the infringement, park up the car or issue a huge on the spot fine. A better system so the police have access to drivers history, that will determine the course of action taken at the point of being pulled over.
until that happens, things will not improve.

Can you imagine the change in attitude if they applied these simple adjustments, yes I know it’s Thailand.

Hit the pocket book, go after transport company owners who do not care for the conditions of their trucks or buses and let their drivers on the roads for long hours , impound vehicles, stop favoring the “do you know who I am” drivers.  France used to have the worst fatality rates in the 50’s, 60's and 70's. At the end of each weekend, especially long ones, the newscasts would start with the road carnage victims (the numbers were akin to those in Thailand. Now they are down to 4000 and less per year. How did they do it? Read my first sentence.

I only submitted the bank letter and passbook photocopies, and they didn't ask for any statements (800k method, not income). The bank letter can be issued within seven days prior to the date of application, but, as @DrJack54 indicated, you also need your bankbook updated on the day you apply. For most if not all banks, this requires a transaction, which you can do at an ATM or counter downstairs (unless you're with SCB). You don't need to show the source of your vast wealth.

They do still ask for the map - I just submitted a copy of the same one I had submitted the previous two years, to assist them in their plan to totally deforest Thailand by means of extension paperwork.

If you have a fixed account, updating it is not required.
