  1. Yes, I remember. The important thing now is that your Work Permit is no longer valid. So, if you wish to obtain a new work permit, you will need a non-imm visa and then have to reapply.
  2. Why does this "British man" hide his name?
  3. Oh, I see. I notice too it is Phetkasem Highway. The insanity of speeding on that road is something else.
  4. The photos are post-hydraulic cutter but I take your point.
  5. Has anyone thought about this? Rubber bullets?
  6. Interesting question. If you want to, anybody can register for self-assessment in the UK and fill in a tax return. (Take care to do it right!) In all likelihood, HMRC will de-register for the following year if there is no point. Proof of tax paid is shown on P60's for employment and pensions, official DWP letters for state pension and interest certificates for bank or building society interest. In fact, all sources of income have to provide proof of tax deducted. (There are other sources of income I have not mentioned here.) I see your point by putting it on a tax return, it would be 'all in one place'. This is called an SA302 (tax calculation) in the UK. Even if you don't fill in a tax return, you can print off a similar document from the Government Gateway. My advice is not to fill in an unrequired UK tax return but wait and see what supporting information the Thai Revenue Department require.
  7. Non-residence for tax purposes in the UK is determined by the statutory residence tests. https://assets.kpmg.com/content/dam/kpmg/pdf/2016/01/statutory-residence-test-flowchart.pdf Non-residents are taxed on UK income even though they are non-resident. State pension is never taxed at source but is taxable income. (Any tax due is generally collected by adjustment of the tax code of other income, e.g. company pension) I hope this clarifies your understanding.
  8. It was a message to Donald to state defiantly she is not a porn actress. He likes porn actresses. She is drawing a line, differentiating.
  9. For the Brits, is this the Thai version of the Premium Bonds?
  10. This is a repeat of the policy that he enacted in the early 2000's through the National Housing Authority (NHA). It was wildly popular and massively oversubscribed. You can see it throughout Thailand. The housing is referred to as a "kankheha" and is usually either 3 or 4 storey numbered blocks or small houses. By putting the right person in charge of the NHA, it also offers much opportunity for syphoning off of a certain percentage either to enrich oneself or to pay off political friends. So, it is popular, resolves a public issue and great corruption opportunities, win-win-win.
  11. Several years ago, when the importation of large guard dog, fighting dog and attack dog breeds became widespread and popular in Thailand, I knew this was going to happen. Thais often release their unwanted dogs on waste ground or temple grounds, they usually let them roam free even if owned and hardly ever train them. These killings will continue and the victims will often be children or the elderly. I remember parking up only to see an unattended American Bulldog leading two soi dogs wandering around a country lane recently. I decided not to hang around to see if they were friendly.
  12. The irony! Thread starts off as a dig at Walter Mitty types. Walter Mitty types take over the thread!
  13. I met one in Nong Khai who not only had been in the SAS, but had also recently broken the village headman's arm. (he claimed) (remote vilage in Udon Thani without a metalled road). He name-dropped a couple of stories about SAS operations in the 50's(?) I would not describe him as good company but the bar owner was happy 'cos he spent a lot of money on beer.
  14. Thank you for updating me. I was unaware of that. I just had the "old" style of work permit.
  15. It is possible a WP issued under the one-stop regulations administered by the BOI may omit duties and location. I don't know. Non-BOI work permits definitely do not. I will have to wait for an expert to come along. BOI will not be dealing with this hamburger stand. So for all the reasons I stated above, including location and duties, this unnamed English guy does not hold a work permit for foreigners to do what he was doing. He may hold Thai nationality. Can you read Thai?
  16. There are no shortage of rabbit farms in Thailand. 150,000 Baht would buy a lot of rabbits.
  17. Are you absolutely sure? Have you read every page of your work permit? Even the bits in Phasa Thai. Is it a BOI company?
  18. You don't have to look hard to spot Trump the grifter. From the serial bankruptcies to Trump University to Trump steaks to Trump Coin. He knows the truth behind the line, "Just move on to the next sucker, there's plenty out there." America, you have been fooled and it will be painful. You will be paying for it for decades.
  19. No. Street vending is a restricted profession. That means Thai Nationals only. In addition work permits are location-specific along with being time-limited, employer-specific and duty-specific. He has not got a work permit.
  20. Yes, after a number of renewals and perhaps with children, you might think there would be a streamlining of the process. But no, all marriage extensions have to be approved by the regional authority.
  21. You always know they are Burmese when they are crammed in to these vehicles like livestock on the way to the abbatoir. They stand out like a sore thumb. Looks like the tinted windows did not help.
  22. You get quite a few Africans with Dutch passports coming to work in construction jobs in the UK. I encountered them in a previous job. They were clearly African with sub-Saharan accents but they had Dutch names (both first name and surname) and a Dutch passport but could not speak a word of Dutch. I never did figure out what was going on. I assumed either the passports were fake (but they passed Home Office checks) or they borrowed somebody's identity.
  23. Clearly the ordination date was insufficiently auspicious. While the street lighting may have been a very minor contributing factor, I would be looking at excessive speed, drugs and alcohol and phone use as the probable cause of the accident. And then lack of appropriate PPE for the cause of the severity of the injuries.
