  1. Great advice above. I would add that Paksan (Pakxan) is a shorter bus ride than Savannakhet.
  2. Driving into parked trucks definitely seems to be the fashion now in Thailand. I can't help but connect it to the endemic phone use whilst driving (and watching tv).
  3. The BBC running with a story that the US seeking to tie Iran into a non-nuclear deal at the same time as this announcement on Gaza. The Gaza announcement gets the headlines and keeps Netanyahu happy because it keeps his rebellious ultra-Zionist coalition partners happy. At the same time, the Iran news which would send the ultra-Zionist into a fury has been buried.
  4. As he was not charged, can you explain how he would have been remanded? Is this something new in the UK, remanded without being charged? Wasn't that called internment?
  5. No, they were both brand new evisas from London. I got the Non-Imm O and then applied for the DTV a week later. Both were approved and issued. I actually believe that whichever I presented would have been accepted. I presented the DTV at Suwannaphum Airport and that was how I was stamped in.
  6. Sadly not, each year people are shot in France by hunters thinking they were wild boar. And no, they weren't wearing pig outfits. 😟
  7. There are rarely any updates to any story. The press have a symbiotic albeit lesser role to the police and follow them around rather like cattle egret following buffalo. The police allow them access to crime scenes (breaking news, pictures and clips) and people involved (victims, perpetrators). The police in return are much more able to control the narrative and what information is shared and what is not. Every day, on to the next new stories. This allows police to resolve, finalise or even dismiss cases in a way that is best for them and the press know not to ask for follow-ups unless they are proactively shared by the police. In traffic cases even involving fatalities, provided whoever is deemed to be at fault (if in doubt it will be those surviving, with the most money and least connections) has the means to pay their way out, nobody goes to prison, nobody is prosecuted, nobody loses their licence. I expect this is what happened here after all is said and done.
  8. Off topic I learnt whilst dealing with customers in the financial sector never to give an opinion on anyone else's earnings or expenditure as no matter how well-intentioned and harmless, it will set people off.
  9. I remember in Sri Racha before the licence was actually printed, they wisely asked me to check all the details and sign they were correct from a printout. Fortunately as I could read Thai, I pointed to them that Iceland and the UK are different countries and I am not from Iceland. I got the response "Ireland?". I reiterated not Iceland, not Ireland but the UK. However, this is not important as it is only in their records but not on the Driving Licence itself.
  10. The last time I entered Thailand I actually had 2 valid visas, a DTV and a Non-Imm O, both in e-visa format. I followed the large overhead instructions "Present 1. Passport, 2. Boarding Pass 3. E-visa if applicable" The E-visa I presented was the DTV. Nothing was said about the other visa. I was stamped in on the DTV. The Non-imm O which was only valid for entry for 3 months was never used and has now expired. Any idea why it would not work? Or what kind of issues I might run into?
  11. So, what I might do is i) pick up a non-imm O when my 2-year DL is coming to an end. I visit the UK twice a year. ii) enter on that rather than my DTV which is good till 2029. iii) renew my 2-year DL and be given a 5-year DL. iv) do a border run and re-enter on my DTV evisa
  12. The Office of the President of the United States has limited checks and balances. That is why it is important not to allow somebody woefully unsuitable into the Office. Unfortunately in the age of social media soundbites and hyperbole the system has failed. Let us hope the limited checks and balances are strong enough to hold the madman in check.
  13. It was not led by Thailand or the Thai Interior Minister. The process of return to the UK was initiated by the UK's Interpol Notice. Far more efficient than an extradition process which may have failed due to lack of concrete evidence.
  14. Sri Racha DLT is really easy to get to from Pattaya. It is on the 7 Motorway Spur in Ao Udom. Go straight upstairs (driving licences) and counter 3 for the guy who speaks English and deals with foreigners.
  15. Leave an update here if possible. I am assuming you got your original Driving Licence from Pattaya DLT (Route 36). Sri Racha may tell you to go there for any correction. Or are you going to do the whole thing from scratch again?
  16. In the age of drones, are aircraft carriers still the tactical advantage they used to be?
  17. There are probably some Thai wives/girlfriends attending that school.
  18. Oh yes. I put a whole report on it and the reasons why. I will pm you with the link. They are all in Chonburi so it doesn't matter.
  19. I also read that. It may have been speculation on this forum rather than fact. However, on a news site it stated that no other country would have allowed him to board or enter if he did board due to an Interpol Blue Notice. Also it is notoriously hard, if not impossible to get out of IDC to the airport without a booked flight to the country of one's passport. Previously they insisted on a direct flight if one existed. Bearing in mind these two facts, I read the speculation that he could choose where to go with deep scepticism. And then he flew to the UK and was arrested on arrival. I think he never had the choice of where to fly to.
  20. Are we talking about a Thai national here? If so, different rules apply. I have come across this before but not for foreigners.
  21. Is holding a Non-Imm O sufficient to renew a 2-year DL to a 5-year DL or does the DLT want to see annual extensions?
  22. COR (Jomtien) reads Surname ; First Name ; Middle Name. Driving Licence (Sri Racha) reads First Name ; Middle Name ; Surname. I am of the view that Thais routinely shuffle foreigner's names around and as long as they are spelt correctly, I won't interrupt their shuffling game.
  23. Did not get out of the wrong side of bed. I was trying to understand why you believe the UK police have withheld his passport. I now understand you believe "he may want to go to Laos with less favourable extradition". It doesn't address my question but actually it tells me a lot. Thanks.
