  1. I think that you must take a more reasonable view my hot-headed friend @heybruce. The Thai people were merely protesting having the government which they had elected taken from them for the second time in three years, whereas our enthusiast for the smack of firm government was seriously inconvenienced - he couldn't use his nearest bus stop for weeks!
  2. Seems pretty harmless! Probably the nearest the poor kids dare come to kicking over the traces!
  3. Bit of rain this morning in Wiang Chiang Rung. Dogs had to scamper extra hard to Grandma's house for their ( second) breakfast. Just enough fell to wash the dust off the roof, so next time we can collect and use what falls. That will be handy as we have had no running water for a couple of weeks. Nothing to do with a shortage - the Poo Yai Ban can't fix the pump ' cos he has spent all his budget on a new speaker system around the village!
  4. One may well expand on the word "general"! "Also confiscated in the raid were various party drugs, luxury cars and gambling equipment." Interesting isn't it how the luxury cars are always scooped up. In a raid on an illegal night club, I can understand drugs and gambling equipment being targeted, but why, invariably " oh look, a flash motor, we will seize that!" It is almost as if senior elements within the Police force have a particular interest in "luxury cars"!
  5. Perhaps that is more to reduce exposure to the sun? Some of the clothed but clinging outfits on various Siamese Venuses emerging from the waves leave little to the imagination - corr lovely! On which note, off to make a pot of tea...
  6. Seems a bit pointless lifting them, if they were that close to the border and on the way out! But then maybe the authorities wished to make sure that their employers had not cheated them in any way, and that they had been paid what they were owed...
  7. Ah, so that is what sparked the praiseworthy concern! Now, how to get ones paws on it!
  8. I have studied the two portraits. I have, after much soul searching, come to the conclusion that they use different brands of hair dye.
  9. Look beyond the naive display. The coup was accompanied by a curfew. Yet the "right people" were able to source large quantities of identical flowers - which could only have come by arrangement with the overnight wholesale flower markets. Similarly, they just happened to have large ice boxes of cooled soft drinks on hand, as one does, just in case! And handy passing film crews from the "appropriate" TV stations!
  10. Well he has held to that view for the last ten years. Nothing if not consistent. Once a coup enthusiast, always a coup enthusiast!
  11. She was, at the time, a very high profile government scientist. Quite possibly enlisted to support the purchase of the equipment by foolishly agreeing that it was a good idea. It will be interested to see if she actually profited from the purchase. Too clear up the scandal requires a fall guy. Once the fall has been "taken" then it is closed. Having her as the "fall guy" also "pays back" someone who has at times proved to be a bit of a thorn in various sides. Bit of a bonus? Mind you, I am surprised in a way that they are resurrecting the investigation so far down the line - all the Benzes will be parked at the back of the second hand car lots by now, and there are far more pressing problems, greater threats to society and bigger fish to fry - Chinese girls buying school uniforms and having their names embroidered on them for example!
  12. As in, took power in a coup, and rigged an election to stay in power, and having every intention of doing so again... Pithy, accurate and easily understood.
  13. I do. I also understand that the government of the UK are trying to stop it. These people are illegal immigrants, many of whom are young males, many of whom who are economic migrants rather than refugees, who as you suggest are being smuggled across many countries to get into the UK. They are not asylum seekers are they? In fact their presence and the massive resources which they consume are detracting from the efforts to actually help genuine refugees fleeing genuine persecution. The sheer numbers presenting at the channel coast does suggest that most of the countries they pass through are prepared to tolerate their transit, as long as they don't bother them "en route ".
  14. If they are arriving on small boats crossing the Channel then they will have passed through at least half a dozen countries where safe refuge is available. To pass through those countries they will have needed documents. When they get to the UK, oh dear, they have no documents!
  15. There seem to be few reports of protests and demonstrations against the monarchy in the whole world of printed and broadcast media. Those that there are seem to be confined to a few dozen placard wavers and the odd egg thrower. All of which must infuriate organisations such as "Celebitchy"!
  16. So a three cornered catfight? Lake v Boeben v MTG? Entertaining times!
  17. Good news! No doubt when the various agencies charged with adjudicating claims to have candidates and parties disqualified, interpreting exactly what was meant when a majority of constituents vote for a particular candidate, and investigating ownership of shares in defunct media companies (or whatever the sacred cow of election law is this time) start producing their reports and presenting their decisions we can expect the tailors of tight uniforms, suppliers of paramilitary bling, manufacturers of garish vinyl backdrops and purveyors of elaborate bouquets to have their time in the sun. And then, two months or so down the line we will wake up to find that a bloke nobody really voted for, and almost certainly was already in power, has managed an astounding victory!
  18. It is an utterly lunatic plan, so almost certainly!
  19. In order to be pardoned he had to have pled guilty or been found guilty, yes? So how can he now sue, having admitted guilt?
  20. That would put half the bars on Soi Cowboy out of business! ????
  21. I would have thought that the market for smokeless fuels was very limited Bangkok.
  22. There is a pressing need - you can make more money in the UK selling drugs and pimping schoolgirls than you can in Albania.
  23. Tucker Carlson's respect, admiration and dare I say love for - Tucker Carlson - leaves little room for an consequential feelings about anybody else.
  24. Well of course not - it's Tucker Carlson. If Carlson said that it was raining, I would go outside to check! Giving Carlson unfettered and sole access to those tapes is simply fulfilling one of the promises which Kevin McCarthey made to get enough votes to become speaker. Humiliating for him, humiliating for the Capital police, humiliating for congress and humiliating for democracy; but hey - he got his name on the door - eventually!
