Anutin Diagnosed with COVID-19 after Overseas Trip
herfiehandbag replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It may be a play for sympathy. You will find it in the dictionary, between <deleted> and syphillis. -
Taxi to Eastern (Ekkamai) Bus Station. Bus to Pattaya Bus Station. If that is too difficult just ask a taxi driver to take you all the way.

Concerns after 181 cases of new sub variants reported in Thailand
herfiehandbag replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
181 sub variants? Really? I mean, you have got: no engines, German engines as ordered, Chinese copies of the German engines... But 181 variants? Ah I see, silly me... -
The Tories will of course always vote Tory. The secret is to persuade the “floating voter" or even people who normally support the other parties to vote Tory. Boris Johnson can do that — he did it in two London Mayoral Elections, and in the last General Election, Margaret Thatcher did it, Tony Blair did it for Labour. That is why they all won big majorities. Boris Johnson's big problem is that he is not “one of us". Not one of the “men in grey suits" who, because they weigh rather than count the vote in their constituencies, are relatively immune to the vissitudes of elections. They remain safely in parliament whether in opposition or government. I don't think, quite frankly, many of them are that interested in being in government. Boris is a bit weird, a risk taker, a man who relies on being a character ( most Tory MPs would not recognise a character if it fell off their bookshelves in a leather bound volume and hit them on the bonce!); a politician who works on connecting with people other than the Tory faithful. They don't like that. He is an election winner, I'm not too sure that they are too bothered about that! The same holds true for the mainstream media. He is “not one of us". You would have thought they would, as “opinion formers" be thrilled to have a former journalist in number ten. He was successful as a journalist, but without conforming to their “norms", or forming opinions of which they approved. That is why they dislike him so, and boy does it show! So if they manage to get rid of Boris, the confirmed Tory voters will still vote Tory. But the rest, who were largely responsible for putting the party in government, probably won't. If the Tories do squeak to victory having ousted Johnson (I don't think they will) then they will have to deal with a media which has decided it can, does and will call the shots; and essentially because the Tory remainers will have ignited it, another chapter in the Tory civil war over Europe. Nigel Farage, essentially a Tory albeit one who doesn't pay a subscription, will reappear on the ramparts. The “red wall" fell to the Tories because 1) people could relate to Boris, and 2) because Nigel Farage effectively told them to vote Tory. Either way, if they oust Johnson they are knackered, electorally and in terms of their internal politics.

How on earth do they fit in economy?
herfiehandbag replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I have twice been seated next to "hefty specimens" both times on the Dubai - Bangkok leg of Emirates or Etihad flights. Both times they boarded and sat next to me dressed in flowing white robes. Both times they changed prior to descending into Bangkok, returning from the toilet looking like Humpty Dumpty out for a nights clubbing. I've never been troubled by "XXXXL Europeans, my worst experience was being sat amongst a group of lads who were on their way out for a "Full Moon Party". They were all very excited, like a P5 class on a school trip. The lad beside me was so hyper, banging on about the various substances he was going to ingest that he drove me up the wall! -
I had exactly the same problem with AIS. I had two Sims in my phone, DTAC which I use all the time, and AIS which I bought when visiting wife's family in an area which DTAC didn't reach. I decided to keep AIS for "just in case", with 100 Baht of credit. That disappeared over three months or so. I went into the AIS shop in Chiang Rai, the girl did something on her computer which she said would fix the problem. I topped up again. Then I started getting an SMS every month telling me to top up or I would lose my existing balance. I took the SIM out. I think I put it somewhere safe but I cannot remember where!????

Cannot get to sleep because of a sore foot, sweaty appendages and a raging hard on - time for some 2am PT!

Before this legislation it seems that there were no real effective control over access to these weapons of choice for mass shootings. After this legislation it seems that there will be no real effective control over access to these weapons of choice for mass shootings. I'm not an American. You may of course think that it is none of my business, but like very many people worldwide (including within the United States) I am sickened by the ongoing slaughters of the innocents, and cannot comprehend the apparent fetish for owning and displaying such weapons. Along with the apparent lack of interest amongst politicians in removing them from society.

Joking apart my wife refers to them all as uncles and aunts. It seems to encompass about half the village.

I presume you mean B2,200 a week? I know that is about what a girl in 7/11 or Lotus gets. Say B9000 a month. Most probably live at home with parents, but if not, a room comes to about B2000 a month, electric another B500, phone/internet B250. B6000 a month or so food and spending money, maybe a bit more if they share the room. Not a lot, but they seem to manage...

To paraphrase (very loosely) Winston Churchill. "Bargirls are lazy, their customers are ugly! Tomorrow the Bargirl may choose to work very hard for a week, but the customers will still be ugly"!

It is , for me, quite a big deal as it nearly caused me to lose my vision in my left eye. It is also probably quite a big deal for my Polish colleague who was threatened with having his finger cut off if he didn't hand over his wedding ring. The police were convinced that cannabis use was responsible for this pairs state of mind. When it came to sentencing their defence used it to ask for mitigation. I don't know the statistics for crime committed when stoned - but it clearly happens. Making up claims about 0 occurrences doesn't help. If you ( and others) want to use the stuff fine, I don't really care, but spare us the "it's totally harmless and only promotes nice warm, fuzzy, peaceful feelings arguments". If that was the case then I would still be able to see properly out of my left eye. "I like it, I want it, I must have it," doesn't mean that it does not have the potential to have side effects.

Are jeans and chinos adapted to Thailand ?
herfiehandbag replied to Baron Samedi's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
In the absolute peak of the hot season I sometimes omit to wear the waistcoat with my gentleman's suiting. At night I may replace it with a light silk cummerbund, (never ever worn before dusk!) Living in the tropics one is at constant risk of dropping one's standards, don't you think? -
You need to consider that, inevitably in Thailand, this "legalisation/liberalisation" process is being driven by those who see an opportunity to profit, probably through the inevitable regulation of the market being used to establish a monopoly. This will of course be in Bangkok and other big cities/ affluent areas. Nobody gives two hoots what will go on out in the sticks, it is too difficult to control and no real money in it. To the best of my knowledge the local lads up here in the rural north have been mixing it with their local hand rolling tobacco for ever!

I am sorry but it happens. For a few years before I came to Thailand I worked as a Taxi Driver in a west country city (UK). Not through choice, I was caring for my mother who had dementia and it was a job which gave me the total flexibility I needed. One night I was dragged from the car and badly beaten ( for refusing to reduce the metered fare). I received a kick to the head which resulted in damage to my left eye which means I now have limited peripheral vision and need to have a spectacle lens for that eye which resembles the bottom of a jam jar. My assailants were also convicted of robbing two other taxi drivers, including a Pole who they threatened at knife point, taking his wedding ring. They were eventually convicted of all three offences, robbery and causing grevious bodily harm. The common thread to all three offences, according to the police, they were heavy cannabis users and had been using it prior to the attacks. Heavy use of cannabis screws your brain, and other people's lives up. It is not just a warm fuzzy harmless feeling.

Turkey is entirely out of the loop as far as having any influence or effect upon Ukraine joining the EU. Ukraine cannot join NATO ( as opposed to being supported by individual NATO countries) as it is engaged in an active conflict (NATO rules). Turkey can try to block other countries (Sweden and Finland) from joining NATO, however it would by doing so increase it's NATO partners existing concerns about it's reliability as as a member of the alliance.
