Absolute poverty: UK sees biggest rise for 30 years
herfiehandbag replied to Social Media's topic in World News
At the risk of sounding trite, you should not believe everything that you hear on the news regarding Brexit! It was a hard contested political decision. "The establishment", including both major parties, and a large swage of the middle classes, (particularly those in occupations which let us say, were closely bound to the EU) were in favour of remaining. The majority of the population, as the vote showed, wanted to leave. It divided the country, and the country frankly remains divided. This division is reflected in media portrayal of the matter. -
Absolute poverty: UK sees biggest rise for 30 years
herfiehandbag replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Brexit has not destroyed the UK economy as was so gleefully predicted by it's opponents. The economy is robust and sound. It could be better, but it is not wounded The UK, like the rest of Europe (the geographical entity rather than the political construct) are somewhat geographically closer to Putin's Russia and it's attempt to conquer Ukraine than the USA, and perhaps, as Europeans, have a rather more "hands on" experience of what allowing a dictator to swallow up neighbouring countries means! Hence the material and political support they offer, at considerable cost, and which has proved rather less fickle than that of the USA. The definition of "absolute poverty" is frankly fairly generous. Whilst many people's circumstances are unfortunate, uncomfortable and unsatisfactory, the UK does not have anything like the abandoned class of hopeless homeless people who live in wretched conditions in tents on the pavements (sidewalks) of major American cities, without any medical care, social assistance and, it appears, hope of either! The UK could, in my opinion, do much more for the disadvantaged in its society, perhaps starting with a more realistic assessment of what poverty actually is. I don't think being unable to afford booze, a social life or a dishwasher are indicators of absolute poverty.- 177 replies

Trump eyes convicts and conspiracists for 2024 reunion

Birds of a feather flock together! Since his campaign is plumbing the depths of bigotry, racism and xenophobia in American society it is hardly surprising inevitable that creatures such as this will be clamouring on board! -
What devices are best for constant dog attacks?
herfiehandbag replied to NONG CHOK's topic in Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand
It was a joke. Someone said "throw a bike". You said ".22". I said "do they make them that small?" I'll admit it wasn't a particularly good joke. Like many it relied on the immediacy of the exchange, and doesn't work if it is explained word for word😀 -

You always offer sound advice. I copy many of your posts and keep them in a file in "notes". They have, from time to time, been helpful. -
What devices are best for constant dog attacks?
herfiehandbag replied to NONG CHOK's topic in Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand
Get your own dog - they will either be scared and keep away of you or make friends. I have four (dogs that is); the black German Shepherd is friends with everyone, the little white Chihuahua is quite fierce, but the loss of face from walking with a little chihuahua mincing along on a pink lead with a big pink bow on her collar needs to be borne in mind! The pretty little black and white Pomeranian, who waggles her bum outrageously everywhere she goes, poses a whole new problem! -
Supreme Court says Texas can arrest and jail migrants
herfiehandbag replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Perhaps if the law is passed by a properly constituted legal process, and instituted by an equally properly legal authority it is one (perhaps distasteful) matter. However, if as I suspect, much of the enforcement and detention will end up in the hands of various vigilante groups and dodgy self proclaimed militias, then a different matter. -
Trump says country faces ‘bloodbath’ if Biden wins in November

In his defence, he had little choice - someone had to take care of the boxes of top secret documents kept in his spare khazi... -

Is that an early manifestation of the "We was robbed" campaign? -
I doubt that there has been an upsurge in this sort of behaviour across the board by foreigners in Thailand. I suspect that a couple of incidents have brought the behaviour of foreigners - very much the minority - into the spotlight of the Thai media. I also suspect that the current international situation has led to an increase in what may be described as the less desirable and more noticable elements in certain areas - Phuket in particular, which has long been a magnet for foreigners.

Possibly not motorcycles licenses. -
If he is as much maligned as this fellow claims, and it is in fact a political class action against the whole real estate development business and it's financing method, why then are these persecuted (albeit wealthy) individuals, and the banks which as he says are so much part of the business, not putting up the bond for Trump?

Thai Student Activists Demand Thaksin's Arrest: Present 6 Proposals
herfiehandbag replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"confused", for heavens sake, what is confusing about what I said? I really don't think it could be clearer. Talk about a much misused emoji! Face it, it is used to mean "I don't agree". Fair enough, if you don't agree, post then, rebutting what I said! -
Thai Student Activists Demand Thaksin's Arrest: Present 6 Proposals
herfiehandbag replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Except that, there is absolutely no evidence that 10million Thais are pee'd off about Thaksin! Most of the student community that I know, whilst aware and cynical about the Thai "elite" shenanigans have their own political leaders and couldn't give two hoots about Thaksin. Their Mum's and Dad's, many of whom supported the Shinewatras and their political movement are quite pleased that the old man is back home. On the photographic evidence posted here recently, there were not very many of them, and the "students" were remarkably long in the tooth. 50 vehicles including cars and motorcycles adds up to a crowd of about 200. -
Harsh - but true!

Whilst I believe Penny Mordant would be of benefit to the Tory Party, replacing Sunak with her at this stage of the game would achieve nothing. The Tories need a good sorting out. This could best be achieved by her wielding that whopping great sword whilst in opposition. In time she will make a very good leader.
