  1. Nothing will be done if it is a local but you can bet they will make an example of any foreigner they catch.
  2. The jails are overflowing, there's 30 guys to a cell as it is.
  3. Means little, many people register their vehicles in Bangkok rather than locally.
  4. Visiting ain't the same as actually being here. Been living here 31 years. Have personally seen with my own eyes: Thai student stabbed inside Panthip Plaza in Bangkok. Violent rioting at Democracy Monument. Army shooting protestors with live ammunition. The takeover of Suvarnabhumi airport by armed thugs. Several beatings of foreigners by Thai males on Soi Cowboy including one who had his neck broken. Multiple Thai on one Thai attack on the street at Asok Plaza. Bus driver attacking taxi driver with metal bar on corner of Sukhumvit Soi 22. Thai man brandishing gun on Soi Cowboy threatening people. Thai man with fruit cart attacking Thai Police with knife on Soi 22. Numerous other acts of aggression and violence perpetrated by Thai males over the years that ! don't immediately recall.
  5. Welcome to the real Thailand, and these incidents will no doubt increase, as the financial realities of almost two years with no tourism kick in. A cowardly and brutal attack. Hope they catch the perpetrators and charge them with murder. Not holding my breath though.
  6. Same for the UK, we've also made drink driving culturally unacceptable. Imagine if Thailand had powerful cars as we get in the West? You could double that road accident tally easily.
  7. The cigarette littering scam has been going on since Moses wore short pants. I doubt the local Police would want to stop any revenue stream that they control either, including scams and African drug dealers.
  8. And if yer Auntie had baws she'd be your Uncle.
  9. I think this is one of the reasons why manufacturers tend to suppress availability of high performance models that are readily available elsewhere, especially in the West.
  10. Just ready a Bangkok Post article which quoted a Thai official who stated Thailand passed Libya in 2562 in road traffic deaths, so things actually got worse. This is of course based on those dying at the scene as those that die later due to injuries are not included.
  11. Three years ago they were second to only Libya. Doubt things have improved. https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/the-countries-with-the-most-car-accidents.html
  12. I had an interesting and eye-opening experience the other day after I overtook a Honda on a quiet road in Chonburi. The inadequate male driver was so hurt by this he followed me until I stopped, then began to chastise me from inside his vehicle for overtaking him, accusing me of "driving too fast" and "driving danger", even though he attempted to speed up to stop me overtaking as many of them do. The reason I highlight this anecdotal incident is that for many, their ego will not allow them to be safe and careful drivers, and any loss of face will cause them to lose control of their emotions, act irrationally and drive dangerously.
  13. Often if you are a designated first aider or first responder other people will get in the way and try to interfere. Untrained persons and do-gooders are an additional danger to an already tense and difficult situation. Twice I have come to the aid of someone in Thailand and on both occasions local bumpkins or friends of the victim have interfered and on one of the occasions the victim's friend seemed to think I was trying to take something out of his pockets lol. If he had a clue he would have seen on my wrist a watch worth over 1.2m thb. That incident was not serious, just a guy passed out and drunk but the other was a cardiac arrest which the victim would most certainly have died without my intervention. Right place, right time I guess. Normally, if the victim isn't breathing you have three to four minutes to revive them or it's lights out as the brain will die if starved of oxygen.
  14. From the article: Colonel Kunlachart told The Pattaya News, “The gambling den caretaker claimed they have paid (unidentified) police to open the gambling den. I am sure that the Royal Thai Police has not let this bribe issue destroy our reputation in working for the people.” ????
  15. My first visit there was some 30 years ago. It was pristine, completely beautiful and hardly any tourists at all. Then the Beach movie with Leo DiCaprio came out in the late 90's and it got busier, and busier, and busier... Chinese tour groups were the final nail in the coffin. Locusts. To quote Robert Carlyle from the film, "The big, chunky charlie's eating up the whole world!"
  16. Government hospitals are usually crowded and inefficient in comparison to private hospitals. They are cheaper though. The staff usually earn their stripes at government hospitals then go work at private ones for better salaries.
  17. The condo board in Florida appointed an administrator to compensate the victims. What has the owner of the Thai building done to compensate the victim of this incident?
  18. Saw an accident in Laem Chabang early this morning. Pick-up doing a U-turn on a 4 lane road wiped out a Grab driver on a scooter. Driver went over the bonnet of the pick-up and bike was left embedded in the front quarter panel. Looked a sore one.
  19. Didn't see any rescue breaths being given in that video... CPR is useless without compressions and rescue breaths to put air into the lungs. Correct ratio is 30 compressions and 2 rescue breaths. Continue until paramedics arrive or the victim starts breathing again, in which case put into recovery position and monitor pulse. The rescuers surely would have had a first aid kit with barriers for applying rescue breaths; a mask and a puffer bag are the usual ones, means you do not have to contact the victim directly, extremely handy when there is a lot of blood on the victim. The emergency responders should have also had and used an AED as well as CPR to try and revive the victim.
