  1. Jail and deport this wannabe Neville Bartos.
  2. The latest scandal of course being the young politician's son who rammed an elderly couple in his BMW and was subsequently elected. You can't help these people. Their greed, corruption, stupidity, and lack of foresight are too deeply ingrained.
  3. So typically Thai. No foresight due to their appetite for corruption, greed, avarice and their hubris.
  4. I'm pretty sure they are screened by an IO as they come in, just as everyone else. Those that do slip through the net and gain entry then work illegally are rounded up eventually as these criminals have been. The system seems to work, unlike the UK and elsewhere.
  5. Some posters here seem confused as to why foreigners are being targeted and not locals. Well done to the Thai Police on removing these criminals from the country. Who cares if it takes 4 officers, or even 10 per criminal? They are being dealt with. A tolerant approach to illegal foreigners and criminals is exactly why countries in Europe and the UK are heading towards ruin and violent conflict. Nip in the bud Thailand. Keep them out.
  6. I was in Hanoi in the early 2000's and felt no need to go back. Did Saigon several times with friends up until about 2008 but Phnom Penh ruled supreme as the best kept secret in SEA. Ended up working out of Vung Tao offshore in 2010 a few times for PVD. Can't be bothered dealing with Vietnamese on holiday, too much hard work.
  7. Nor are a lot of the immigrants that arrive legally suitable or even qualified for the jobs they do. Loads of fake qualifications about. Funny how we need net-zero to be self-sufficient in our energy needs, but we need millions of immigrants from third-world sh*tholes to meet our manpower requirements. Just as more and more jobs are being taken over by AI and robotics. Funny that, eh?
  8. They certainly won't pay out in many cases without thorough investigation. I subcontracted for a classification society in Thailand some time ago. We received regular work where we were hired by the insurers or their investigators to provide evidence to support (or refute) the insurance claim i.e. inspection reports, non-destructive testing, etc. In the vast majority of cases we did not find evidence to support the insurance claim. That was not up to us to decide however, we only provided the reports. Often the asset under inspection was barely damaged, and had been resold to another party, with the owner trying to claim insurance for minor damage. Double dipping. I can recall a few cases in which the company owner got violent and started threatening our inspection team to find damage that wasn't there. Fun times.
  9. Looks like a 'homemade' man-basket that was being used on a piece of equipment that probably was not suitable nor certified for lifting persons (i.e. a mobile crane). Then factor in lack of thorough examinations, maintenance, correct use/fitting and pre-use inspections, and you'll be getting somewhere.
  10. I registered my Thai sim over 20 years ago and was in my ex-gf's name. About 5 years ago I went to DTAC with her and swapped it over to my name. It is the number that I have used for 20 years for WhatsApp, mobile banking etc. Just in case I went to True/DTAC over the weekend and lucky I did, as it wasn't properly registered and needed to go through some process again. At least now I have peace of mind that it is done correctly.
  11. For daily operations I wear an Omega Seamaster, but I have been wearing my Tudor Pelagos of late, really liking it. I have a couple of G-Shocks for when I am in the field. I also have several other quality watches including Rolexes. No big deal. Horses for courses.
  12. Barking up the wrong tree there. The State Audit Office (Thai: สำนักงานการตรวจเงินแผ่นดิน), previously known as the Office of the Auditor General, is an independent, constitutionally mandated state agency of Thailand. It is tasked with examining the accounts and finances of the government to ensure transparency and to prosecute financial fraud.
  13. There is it is the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) the same mob that did the testing here.
  14. Again, not properly trained or competent thus not knowing to slow down or see the danger.
  15. Because? Not trained and not competent to operate a scooter. RIP young lady, if only you were trained properly and deemed competent by someone that had a clue before being allowed to ride a scooter.
  16. How can foreign guides possibly know all of the real history that the Thai guides know? It's not in any books, and only exists in the Thai mind. How could they possibly know that Thailand is the seat of all civilisation, the greatest country in the World and has never been colonised? How would visitors ever understand that 'Thai lady number one' or know if, 'you like ladyboy?'
  17. Still no option to select Thailand as the country of residence for those of us staying here long term.
  18. Part of the ruling Thaksin party. Taking his cues directly from the big mafia boss himself. Interesting the comments from his father, claiming a political smear campaign! They can never, ever accept responsibility or guilt. Filthy, immoral wretches.
  19. He was, then seemed more concerned about the damage to his vehicle than the injured persons.
  20. Wrong tools for the job there. No risk assessment. Etc. RIP fella.
  21. That's a tough sell. They never admit their own failings, and will lie through gritted teeth in denial. Embassies and consular services need to be very vocal about the dangers of travelling to Thailand.
  22. Far beyond Thai drivers to anticipate danger, unfortunately. They are just not competent to operate motor vehicles correctly.
