  1. Same for me when only considering the aircraft.
  2. The lesson is never fly Thai on business long haul unless there is absolutely no other option. I just flew back from the UK on QR in business with Q-Suites on the second of the legs, and it was excellent. Dine on demand, private cabin, fantastic entertainment options, great selection of bevvy etc. Don't know why people persist on these expensive mid/low tier bus class products from TG when there are so many superior options available at less cost.
  3. That is Singapore and that is why it is needed there. Foreigners will still need to queue up and see an immigration official for an entry stamp on arrival in Thailand.
  4. It is the easy visas and cheap flights to blame. I can see a tightening of visa regulations in the not too distant future, to keep out the undesirables.
  5. You are not here permanently unless you have permanent residency or Thai citizenship. Most of us are long term tourists or visitors on non-immigrant visas, which are temporary and renewed periodically. This is an important distinction.
  6. Some of the worst badly behaved tourists I have seen have been South Korean. Two notable incidents, one on the golf course, another on Soi Cowboy. The latter ended badly for the two Koreans getting beaten severely by a posse of Thais, using all sorts of weapons and dispensed some deserved vigilante justice. The former ended up with the two guys unconscious as my mate knocked both of them out after they were rude and abusive to Thai caddies at the clubhouse. Their swift demise met with rousing applause from all others present. Maybe this Korean deserved what he received from the British man?
  7. Fortunately I do not have to fly to Perth, Australia often. Cathay has just launched new premium economy and business class products, meant to be quite good. Certainly will be enough to elevate them above Thai and Malaysian Airlines.
  8. Mediocre business class. There are much better options for longer haul flights.
  9. You only get that free if you have a wp and pay Social. Retirees don’t qualify (I stand to be corrected).
  10. Another VIP homemade bus by the looks of it. These things are complete deathtraps. Built in workshops to no recognised standard whatsoever and never safety or crash tested. Stick a Volvo or Benz badge on it and you're good to go.
  11. 30 years riding big bikes in Thailand and no serious incidents so far, touch wood. Foreigners need to understand the way Thai traffic works, and how Thai drivers act. Most don't unfortunately, and so many are not competent to ride bikes, regardless of their understanding of, and experience on Thai roads.
  12. They are just doing what comes naturally to them.
  13. The Yanks love a good indiscriminate bombing. Here's a list of countries the US has bombed or conducted significant airstrikes in since 1945: Asia: China – (Korean War, 1950–1953; minor incursions during Cold War) Korea (North) – (Korean War, 1950–1953) Vietnam – (Vietnam War, 1964–1973) Cambodia – (1969–1973, secret bombings during Vietnam War) Laos – (1964–1973, part of the “Secret War”) Thailand – (Accidental strikes during Vietnam War) Indonesia – (CIA-backed rebellion support, 1958) Philippines – (Counter-insurgency airstrikes in the 2000s) Afghanistan – (2001–2021, War on Terror) Pakistan – (Drone strikes since mid-2000s) Yemen – (Drone strikes since mid-2000s) Iran – (1980s: Operation Praying Mantis; recent covert strikes) Iraq – (1991 Gulf War, 1998, 2003 invasion, and ongoing operations) Syria – (2014–present, anti-ISIS operations) Lebanon – (1983–1984, during Marine presence in Beirut) Europe: Serbia (former Yugoslavia) – (1999 NATO bombing during Kosovo War) Bosnia and Herzegovina – (1994–1995 NATO airstrikes) Africa: Libya – (1986 airstrikes; 2011 NATO intervention; later anti-ISIS strikes) Somalia – (1990s and again from 2007–present, drone strikes and air raids) Sudan – (1998 strike on pharmaceutical plant in Khartoum) Mali – (Drone support missions) Niger – (Airstrikes against insurgents in recent years) Latin America & Caribbean: Guatemala – (1954 CIA-backed coup with some air involvement) Cuba – (Bay of Pigs, 1961, limited air support) Dominican Republic – (1965 intervention) Grenada – (1983 invasion, airstrikes) Panama – (1989 invasion, heavy bombing) El Salvador & Nicaragua – (1980s, indirect involvement, covert support, some air action) Oceania: No significant US bombings post-WWII.
  14. You never put an amputated body part directly on ice as it can damage it. The recommended way to preserve a finger (or toe) for reattachment is to wash it thoroughly, wrap it in a gauze/bandage, place it in a sealed plastic bag and then place that bag in another larger bag with a mix of water and ice to keep it cool. Then take the casualty straight to A&E. I hope that was what was done for the sake of the victim.
  15. Those are scooters, not motorbikes.
  16. Entirely a problem of Thailand's own making. No Police presence on the roads. No enforcement of laws. No proper standards of training and competency for vehicle users.
