  1. I also do not earn any money in Thailand and this year 1 Jan 2024 forward, I have not bought in any money to Thailand (wife and me both 81) . Last year just after they announced to us that money bought in would come under Thailand taxes, I sent in over a period of time enough money, coupled that with what I already had here to live here up to 4 years in the same lifestyle in Bangkok. I am just waiting to see that happens next. If it gets too be to much paperwork and going to different office for paperwork, I'm gone. I'll return to my home country and live just as comfortably there thought the winters will limit my out of the side travels. Time will tell.
  2. Citizenship based taxation - International comparison | TFX Taxes for expats https://www.taxesforexpats.com › Expat tax advice The US is one of two countries in the world that taxes based on residency. So do not think that there a lot of countries that taxe income made out side there country. \
  3. I have lived in Bangkok in the same house for 34+ years. Back in 1991 this was LOS over time I can truly say not anymore, it's just like any western country now. As for pink card I asked our local office and they gave me a list of things I would need the worse was passport front page, copy certified by Embassy, translated into Thai and certified by the TFM. same for marriage license because the one have now is to old (just like me and the Thai wife). Did they think that something was going to change after all those years? Plus two witness and could not be family. there was some other paperwork required but don't remember. I do not carry my passport with me like stated above, only for new Bank Book and IMO. Most places will take my Thai DL as ID.
  4. Wife bought land back in 1986. I retired in 1991 and we moved right to Bangkok, Had the western style house build, we arrived 2 weeks before we could move in. Since then up date's 2 times one minor 1998 and one big job 2006. Live in the East end of Bangkok in nice housing project, easy to get to the highways and to the main road to downtown, thought have not been there in the last 6 - 8 years. Nothing there that we can not find real close to home. Raised our daughter here 2 -12 grades then off to the US for collages Three. She Has her Phd along with her own business. She and her husband normally come to visits 2 times a year now that we don't travel any more. Our living standard is great and along with the Medical care, that's what keeps us here. For me never been one for going out on the town, only been in one Bar for the last 34 + years. Sad now thou that all my real friends' have move back home or died.
  5. Before the of the US Embassy stopping the letter to prove income each year in ( 2019 ), that's what I always use. In Jan 2019 I deposited 800,000 Baht in Bangkok Bank a Fixed Account, I asked if they could just roll it over into the same account each year in Jan ( my yearly extension is due in mid June each year.) No problem and I never use that account, No ATM card's for Fixed Accounts either. So each year 2 to 5 days before going to CW, I go the a branch bank and get the letter showing I still have the account the date and amount in the bankbook with a bankbook up that day. When I go to CW I first go down stairs and do another update for that day of the bankbook and get a copy of the last page. Give that IO and no question ask. Last extension May 21 2024. l only have of two pages used in the bankbook. Been doing my own extension for the last 34 years and I'm 81.
  6. I have two Thai BK debit cards and the wife has the same number but not same accounts. I also have two US credit cards one a small limit and the other with high limit. I only use the US CC small one for US online shopping and the larger one at one place only THai Hospital. Last year I needed to top up my prepaid phone and my Thai cards were not set for online shopping so I use my small US CC to top up the phone. in lest 3-4 hours I received a mgs on my phone about 3 fraudulent transaction (not on line purchase's ) in the US the card was used in three different states with minutes. CC company froze the card asked to call and they told me about purchase in question . I told them I'm right here in Thailand. They cancelled the card and it took 6 weeks to get a replacement. I know the only place the card was used in 6 months was that online top up of my phone one of the Marjory phone companies here. Called them but it just inform them that they most likely had a bad actor working for them. Lesson learned Not to use my US CC for shopping in Thailand. As for the Hospital 34 years of using my US CC and no problems.
  7. I must have something in the new reading of the Thai tax’s. My understanding was Thai will say that you are a tax able resident if spend a told of 176 days in one year in Thailand. TDR will then consider any money bought into Thailand after 1 Jan 2024 as taxable and that a TDR tax form is required to filed by 31 Mach 2025. Nothing about stock owned or money in the bank outside of Thailand ect, only money bought into Thailand after 1 Jan 2024 would be consider as taxable. For now TDR has not finger out all the different question about what’s taxable once sent to Thailand.
  8. (IO CW) I am having a problem with the 90-day reporting online. On 11 May 2024 I received the normal email notification from non-reply-tm47 informing me that my “STAYING LONGER THAN 90 DAYS” will be due on 26/05/2024. Being that it was a Saturday I waited until 13 May to log in to Immigration web page and once login I use the looking “glass icon” to auto fill in the TM47 form, checked it that all the info was correct and sent it. The next day I log in web page to check the status and found that the request was (Your visa category does not comply with the 90-day notification conditions (TOURIST) and was rejected in one second after it was received? I tried the next day thinking may have been a glitch in the system, received the same reject (Your visa category does not comply with the 90-day notification conditions (TOURIST). I was due to renew my extension of stay in 4 days waited until then. After finishing my Extension I showed the IO the printout and she send me to A counter 300+ ahead of me, after about 10 minutes IO came up to me and ask what problem I had. Showed her the TM 47 sent and rejects . She took me to counter B The IO there update the records and gave me the printout for next 90 report. I asked her then what was wrong , and she told me they had a update to the system and some people were getting rejects. She said that being that I entered the country on a Tourist visa and had then change over to a NON IMM and the system was showing Tourist. I told her that was not correct I entered on "O NON IMM " visa issued in London on May 1991 and came into Thailand June 17 1991, that I Have been living in the same house ever since, she no that's not what the records show. I new there was no use in argerying about it as I had no Documentations with me. When home found my old passport which showed NON IMM type "O". I emailed all the information to IO but never heard back from them.
  9. My daughter has a Phd in counselling phycologisty. Read, writes and speaks Thai, she was raise in Bangkok for 12 years RIS school. Then off to the USA for her BA child development phycology, 2 MS one in research and the other in applied phycology and Phd in counselling phycology. Took 10 yrears Plus 1 year internship at the same time she was finshing last grad study's. She pasted her USA licensing test for all 50 state licensings, and is licensed for Washington and Oregon. Every year comes home for a month and every year and she is asked by major private hospitals like Bumrungrad and Bangkok General move here to work. Saddly she can't her pay is much more in the USA and because her husband job is much more rewarding both in money and path way to the top in his company. Maybe once they retire they may move here. In the USA she does diagnose illness, manager treatment and provide a range of therapies for complex and serious mental illness. The only thing she can not due is prescribe medication, but she can and does recommend to the doctors medication for her patient's.
  10. Our daughter had Thai lesson in best International school back in 1991, but only from 2nd grade till finshing 6th grade, then the school stop Thai as a subjust. We heirded a Thai language teacher to teach her until she was in 11 th grade. She is exceptional Thai read and writing then, now a little rusted after bring in the USA for the 22 years. Shas one BA 2 MA's and Phd, works in the US and comes here one or two times a year. Her Thai is still quit good and she has many Thai friends that can back to Thailand after collage, and work or own their own company. My advice heird a Thai school language teacher, giver her option.
  11. Strange I don’t see any USA person on this subject. US and Thai government’s also single tax law if income is tax in one country the other one does not tax the income. US taxes my pension and 7/8 of my social security payments but not my VA disability income. For as long as I can remember the last 15 years the US government requires all Thai banks to report any money eared in Thailand to the IRS. That’s the reason it’s so hard for a US person to open a bank account in Thailand.
  12. I move to Thailand when my daughter was starting 2nd grade and I just retired from the USAF. Most private schools were high cost even way back then 33 years ago. ISB was out of my range but I could just barely afford RIS. I look for 2 1/2 years for a job; I really needed the extra money. I finely found a real good paying employment the US Embassy, worked they 15 years. My daughter had a real good education which prepared her for collage in the US,10 years of college and four degrees later BS, 2 MS and Phd. She married and lives in the US, has good employment and comes here at least once a year. All but one of my other children from earlier marriage have college degrees. I was the first one in my family to finish college, even though I dropped out of HS and joined the AF, so I believe in higher education in a good Wester college.
  13. He never total us what country he is from/Embassy don't believe this story.
  14. How things have change in the 32 years. We were mairred in the USA for 10 before we moved here. All we needed then was US Embassy to stmp the letter of auth and translated the document into Thai. Then to the Thai MFA to stamp it and the to the local Umper for registered in the Thai national marriage register. Used that to exten stay up to one base on marriage. Late change to retirement as it was so much easyer for yearly extensions.
