I read the article. My post referred to the logic of handing down a sentence that the convicted person will never serve, i.e., a term that will take him way beyond his natural life. I merely used the US system as a comparison
I don't understand the hostility of some who post here. It's not about points scoring, but sharing opinions, exchanging ideas, a little enjoyment, but there are those who do little more than attack, or perhaps it's just that they lack communication skills? More likely perhaps.
Nothing hostile about pointing out that the reason for a 43 year sentence had nothing to do with any body being in a freezer. Sheesh. Touchy touchy. Take a chill pill.

It's not uncommon In the US to see 3, 4, 5, or more, consecutive life sentences handed down. I don't see the logic, but It happens. Perhaps It's just to record the severity of the crime?
Read the article guys. He got 33 years for shooting a Thai cop & 10 years for some other stuff.

Cola's front legs were sliced off with a sword about a year ago by his owner's furious neighbour in Bangkok.
Was the neighbor a youth?
In most places it would have been euthanasia...It's so confusing...

Where to begin here...read the article? Though as usual in Thailand, the headline portrays the wrong info. It's a confusing article also.
33 of the 43 years is for shooting & wounding a Thai policeman.
"Of the 43-year sentence handed down by the court, 33 years were for the attempted murder of a tourist police sergeant La Fon shot when the authorities raided his residence on a tip that there was a foreign forgery ring operating there."

yep. gotta love youtube that posts so many of those dash cams. heck, a few years ago the Russian dash cams gave some of the best views of that meteor that burned up and created bright flashes, trails across the sky, sonic booms, shock waves, etc. So many views helped the scientist pinpoint the trajectory of the meteor pretty well. maybe with enough dash cams, we can finally catch some good UFOs, and Aliens, and big foots, etc
They already spotted bigfoot. He not only wear big shoes, but also wears big rings and big watches.

That’s an unfortunate tale.
Didn’t realise guns went off that easily.
Some pistols have a protruding hammer that rests against the firing pin.
If something strikes the back of the hammer (such as when dropped) it can cause a round to fire.

I agree it´s amazing with the motorcyclist that actually looked before driving.
The pickup driver would have run away if he still could. first drunk with 146 milligrams in his blood and also shaken but not stirred by the crasch. Is 146 mg of booze in his blood, in his system the same as blowing a .146 on a breathalyzer?
I'm from the US where .08 alcohol (per something) is the legal limit in 'most' states (I think).
Anyhow 146 mg/litre of blood or blowing .146 - either way he was so sauced he'd be doing good to walk away. He's actually lucky anybody walked away. Idiot.

But the motorcyclist did not have a helmet on.
I said there were 2 things that SURPRISED me.
How is a motorcyclist w/ no helmet surprising???

Only two things here surprise me.
1 - The motorcyclist actually looked over his shoulder before pulling into the traffic lane.
2 - The pickup driver didn't run away.

And the serious limitations are?
Probably none if installed & maintained at home, but the RO machines around the moo-baans that dispense water are seldom if ever serviced or cleaned.
They are installed & the vendor collects coins is all the attention they'll ever get. I've seen some that were broken down for months on end.
If the vendor can't afford to have them fixed when they quit making him money, then I doubt he'll ever spend a satang on maintenance.

Internet of things (IoT) devices
Had to Google that term. I hadn't heard of it before.
"IoT is short for Internet of Things. The Internet of Things refers to the ever-growing network of physical objects that feature an IP address for internet connectivity, and the communication that occurs between these objects and other Internet-enabled devices and systems."
https://www.webopedia.com/TERM/I/internet_of_things.html
Here's my first impression. SKYNET. LOL

Read again, grasshopper. (Hint: This is not a government announcement)
So solly Masta Po. I just skimmed the article and was going by the headline.
"Thailand to declare war on plastic bags - by charging for them"
I should have known it made too much sense for it to be something the gov't would come up with. Silly me...

Glad to see the hair brained gov't actually say something that isn't straight off a Monty Python skit for once!
Start charging 20 baht each for straws at 7/11 too!

I find it hard to believe there are more Nigerians in Thai prisons than people from Myanmar.
The article I read was in about 2001 or so.

I recall reading in some BKK newspaper before the internet was around that the BKK Hilton had organised its own World Cup tournament.
It also mentioned that the largest population of foreign prisoners were Nigerian.

Backwards logic again. This would be the time of year when you think they might look the other way because so many people are on the move, for the special occasion. It should be the other more normal times of the year where people should be encouraged to make other plans to get around as they should not make this a daily practice.
That would require *cough* planning.

the driver of the white Isuzu that caused the accident ended up in hospital.
Som nam na.
He should be cuffed to the hospital bed & spends at least 6 months in the slammer after the hospital & his truck should get sold at a police auction that he is forced to attend.

Advise them to do what many of us did when we first visited Pattaya.
Rent a girlfriend who knows every street, shortcut, baht bus route, tourist attraction, etc. despite herself having only arrived in Pattaya 2 days ago to take a job as a cashier.
Best tour guides out there!
However, many Russian guys bring their wives/girlfriends, which is a mystery to me. It's like bringing a bucket of sand to the beach.

Yep. It must be ancient & cheap.
I have .357 Ruger Security Six revolver (made in 1970) that has a transfer bar/plate that goes between the hammer & the firing pin, only when the trigger is pulled or it is manually cocked = the hammer never touches the firing pin. It only smacks the transfer plate.
