How about suing the smokers instead where the blame belongs for deliberately damaging insured property?
Could you please rewrite your post so it makes sense.
Thank you.

There is plenty of proof they confessed they intended to kill Israelis and other tourists according to Bangkok post.in other words, there is no proof of anything, they may be members of Hezbollah, but that is not illegal in Thailand anyway. Zionist claptrap
What the Bangkok Post wrote is irrelevant.
They're not exactly famous for their investigative journalists.
Next you'll be telling us that we should believe everything on Fox News.

Many similar reports in TV already. Believe it or not.
I guess it happens to elderly people more often, simply because they are alone and helpless, maybe handicapped or sick.
At some time they give up the bureaucratic struggle.
Passport at CM: he will have to produce his passport at the gate check-in for identity check to the airline/airport staff.
But they only check the ID page.
Thanks for your kind words, plus I would like to add that he is on a UK pension of less than 15000 Baht a month and I think he will have even bigger problems surviving with this in the UK. And thanks for the info at CM check in,
Wolfgang
Wolfgang, you'll be pleased to know that when he returns to the UK his pension will be brought back in line with current rates. It was frozen when he arrived in Thailand but I assure you it will go up when he returns. It happened to my father so I speak from experience.

Another mature, calm, and collected statement by the PM, never allowing herself to be dragged down by the hate mongers.. why these pad/pdrc creeps hate her so much is beyond a reasonable persons comprehension.
I see your point but what concerns me is the final sentence.
"She also said that there are several high profile figures who are ready to take her position should she step down, stressing that there would not be a political vacuum as the individual assuming her role would be guaranteed to be competent in administering national affairs."
I think it's been proven that is a lie.

I really don't understand how people can thing any of these kind of attractions are safe here. I would trust that in the western world, but out of that region, no. Anywhere in South America, Africa, Asia with exception of Japan, HK, Singapore, Taiwan and probably South Korea, Eastern Europe, no way.
I have a friend who owns one in Pattaya. It's been running for 25 years without a serious accident.
Some non-Thais do maintain the same standards over here that they would back in the west.

Why was he so upset? Why did they have to transfer everyone to a different plane? Surely they could have led him away and then after sorting out the fuel wasted just taken off. Or am I missing something here?
The plane missed its take off slot and there was't another one available seems like a pretty good reason to me. I'm only guessing but it's a logical conclusion.

Arrested for what?

Being drunk doesn't excuse him at all, but instead of putting him at the bottom of the barrel, I will simply hope for a long prison sentence and decades of misery. I hope he gets fired from his job, divorced, can't see his kid for decades, and stays in a BKK jail. Exploiting children is no joking matter.
Is there any particular reason why you didn't read the whole article?
If you had read it you wouldn't have written such an uninformed post.

I'm a smoker and I'm all for it. Screw them for every cent you can get from them. Smoking has not given any benefit to any consumer since the day tobacco was introduced to the world from the Americas. It's a disgusting habit with not one positive attribute.
I'm returning to the UK after 15 years in SE Asia and I have no choice but to give up for economic reasons. Even with an e-cigarette it's going to be difficult. It's obscene that something so evil is so difficult to quit. IMHO :-)

Im not convinced this side of Thailand is wrong.
I mean in many ways it make sense to have kids when very young.
Then, here you have the bonus of still being able to go on and live a life, whilst your mum looks after your baby.
Chances are, the mum did the same and it was her mum that looked after her baby.
So..it passes that way down the line.
Young girls are biological mums, but only become mothers in the sense of bringing up a child when their own daughters have babies.
Young girls are happy as they can live their lives, grandmums are happy as they are more mature, settled and ready to look after a child.
So....why not...?
ummm... because it perpetuates a cycle of dirt poverty?
Globeman, please explain your reasoning behind your comment.

Perhaps the UK-embassy might record another version, with all the men wearing pinstripe-suits & bowler-hats, defending themselves from the water-throwers with their umbrellas ?
To the tune of 'Rule Britannia' ?
Where's John Steed when you need him or would Archie Leach be better suited for the job?
Alf Garnett is my choice.

Don't think it's illegal to carry pax in the rear of a pick up. Even in regulated USA it's not illegal, although in US pax must be sitting down in the back.I thought it was illegal to carry passengers in the rear of a pick up truck.
"Col Sermphan also warned water-players in the back of pickup trucks to be take care and play safely." Here's the chief of Phuket city police telling people to be careful when breaking the law.
Can you imagine the head of a police department in Europe advising people to break the law with care?
I've been under the impression from reading threads here in the past that it was illegal. Maybe it was trucks I read about, not pick-ups. Now I've just seen a thread in the lawyer section that confirms I was wrong.
Everybody please ignore my post.

Good woman. It's great to help those who need it. The Thai man should be grateful and also learn a lesson from his mischief. It seems that a lot of Thais have zero knowledge of financial planning, or just don't care and need loan sharks to help them out. The poverty circle is not easy to escape from, but not impossible. He needs to save money to replace his assets (cart) once every couple of years, or get an insurance. Start with stashing away 25 or 50 satang per sold pancake. I know I might sound hard, but a lot of people having financial hardship have partly themselves to blame due to a complete lack of planing.
In principal I agree with what you're saying and in a country such as the UK there are the adult education resources to learn about such things.
Remember, this man only had a primary education. As a primary school teacher I know that very few of my students would have the knowledge to plan their lives as you suggest.
Granted, he is a man in his 40s with a lot of life experience however there are some life skills that come more naturally to some people than others. Dealing with numbers is one of those skills.
I think the best solution to this problem would be for you to make your way to Phuket and give him the education you know he needs.

I always try and order soda water for my kids, and have found on numerous occasions that the waitress will suggest cola is better for them.
They seem to associate soda water with whiskey.I am pretty sure soda water has sugar in it also.
I am pretty sure soda water has sugar in it also.
I limit myself to one bottle a day of it.
Also one bottle (1 1/2 liter) of Pepsi Max a day.
Also about two to three liters a day of water.
On top of all that I drink one cup of coffee with out sugar in it.
Soda water DOES NOT contain anything except water and carbon dioxide which has been dissolved in the water under pressure.

"Prommin said the ban on alcohol sales at petrol stations and along roads during the holiday break should also be strictly enforced."
Are petrol stations really allowed to sell alcohol? How stupid can you get? Oh.. sorry, I forgot, it's Thailand.

College educated, has a bachelors degree...
Did your friend gain a B.A. from college?
how is that relevant to anything
It's relevant because a B.A. would be gained from a university.
Your story doesn't add up.
Nice try.
In the United States people refer to university as college.
Yours was not a nice try.
It does add up!

Usually when a farang is short of money they will sell their passport. THB 20,000 is the going rate I believe.

what do you expect with junk food anyway ....
Starving folk around the world will live a long life eating "your junk" food...........
No they will not.
His junk food, as you put it, will not be available to the starving folk around the world for two reasons; lack of availability in the areas where there are starving folk and even when available these starving folk wouldn't be able to afford junk food of this nature anyway.
I see you added a smiley at the end of your post. That doesn't make it less crass.

Can only think of cons: nobody running a bar there makes any money.....
Monkey Republic and other bars around that area always seem busy. So unless they are giving away free beer and food, they must be making money.
Have they rebuilt Monkey Republic? Is it different to before the fire?
Monkey Republic has been there a long time and as a result has a very good lease compared to those that are available now.
Remember the high season is brief in Sihanoukville compared to Thailand.

I looked into it quite seriously.I've spent a 2-3 months there at different times of year and have came to the conclusion that there's no money to be made there, yet; at least in the bar/restaurant business.
I was also planning on designing and printing my own t-shirts there as well. The problem is that the visitors are generally less well off than those in Thailand and the high season is not as high or as long as Thailand's (at least as Thailand's used to be). Overall, I think bungalows, a resort or a high-ish end restaurant would be a chance to make some money.
I lived in Thailand for five years, where I started the Bungy on Koh Samui in 1999, and have lived in Vietnam for eight years so I do have some understanding of how SE Asia works. I'm not just writing for the sake of it.

"Thailand has been used by some international terrorist groups as a zone of operation, to raise funds or to plan attacks," said Rommel Banlaoi, an analyst on terrorism in South-East Asia.
Surprised? Not at all... What are the root causes? Exactly the same and for the road accidents, the scams and other major problems that have been increasing in Thailand for the last decade:
No standard + No control + No safety + No authority + No implementation or respect of laws and regulations + widespread corruption = Total laxism and anarchy!
it does not mean that Thailand directly supports or funds Terrorism. Of course not. But indirectly because of laxism and corruption, the country has become a major playground for all kind of mafias and terrorists. Remember a few weeks ago, this story about fruits and veggies sold containing formalin? One seller was saying that is only concern was to increase profit!!! Somehow this is the same root cause. Here in Thailand, money can buy absolutely everything. There is absolutely no (more) moral and common sense. So, of course, it reaches a point where a total failed State leads to all kind of abuses and extremes; from road fatalities (Thailand rank 2nd in the World), food full of pesticides and chemicals (No law, no control), widespread tourist scams and the latest, Terrorism activities.
Actually I am very surprised that a major terrorist attack has not happened yet in Thailand. This country is such a failed State managed by a bunch of clowns.
Most probably just a matter of time...
We want to say "WAKE UP THAILAND", but after saying this for 10 years, there is no more hope.
Good post.
I like the way you've invented a new word, "laxism". Personally I would have used laxity but each to their own. :-)

Two people have been arrested not charged.
You're all a little premature in finding them guilty and sentencing them.
