  1. Without an influx from India and the Chinese opening the borders while facing its own upsurge, tourism is not going to change that much. The Westerners that dominate the board here seriously overestimate their own importance.
  2. We have been practicing at the temple parking lot but I am hoping for something a bit more formal and scheduled. I think she would do better in Thai as well. Fortunately she understands the road rules already with her bike license. The car is much bigger, less responsive and less maneuverable. She is also a bit scared, but not as scared as the lane markers we are using. ????
  3. Kwasaki said that above, thank you for reading. Yes, many here do not have licenses, particularly women. Hence the need to find someone with a 5 year license that she is comfortable with. I would pay for lessons. Another teacher may help her relax and learn better We are outside of Bangkok, way outside. Maybe further reading will give you a clue to how far.
  4. So you were staying on illegal visas, they caught you and moved to throw you out. Who did not see that coming?
  5. You could not pass the road test your first time out either. That is the whole point of provisional licenses, supervised learning.
  6. That is disappointing. I am still on the 2 year Thai license, despite the decades of previous experience. We have been looking for a school but we are is rice country. The nearest mall in an hour away. Maybe I can find someone to drive with her.
  7. Lao Khao and tonic! Brilliant! Fights sobriety and malaria at the same time. I need to try that one. We have been experimenting with slushie syrup. 1 part syrup, 2 parts Lao Khao and 3-5 parts water. The lemon-Lime flavor makes a respectable Kamikaze. As for the monk, it is against the rules and he will have to deal with that. It has been a plague amongst the hometown priests since forever.
  8. Is there a provisional license available? The tirak has been driving her Wave for decades but needs a lot of practice with the car. No way would she pass the road test today. I am wondering how the process works for students.
  9. The Chinese aircraft certification people certainly do. It would not be Boeing handling the recorders.
  10. Engine failure at 29000 feet gives plenty of glide time to get to an airport. It was definitely not that.

  12. Bring it up in Adobe, the hit File>Save As> and select JPG as the file type. It may depend on your Acrobat version though. Another option is to print your documents and then photograph them. You need the printouts for the trip anyway.
  13. 1900 baht to renew an O extension and it is legal. I see the agency visas getting shut down soon. That will be part of the Thaipass system. They arre rejecting covid extensions on E and V visas to force people to restart now.
  14. Sheryl is correct. They can run blood panels at any hospital. You might want to go private if they find anything. Public hospitals will be much cheaper for the initial test, a few hundred baht. They will give you copies of the test results so carry a folder or clipboard to collect up the paperwork. Also carry a thumb drive if you want a copy of any x-rays, scans, ultrasounds, etc. The thumbdrive is also a good place to put scans of your IDs and insurance.
  15. That is because you are incorrect. Every time you change residence, you must report it in 24 hours. While they tend to overlook it for local one-nighters, those are the rules. Bangkok to Chiang Mai will require you to file a new TM30. It has been that way for a long time. The only change recently was eliminating the TM-28.
  16. Why are most of these in Pattaya? Trying to date 20 year old hookers that run through a lifetime of savings in six months.
  17. The only objection I have is that they are still letting in unvaccinated visitors. Everything else has had pretty impressive results in reducing infections and preventing deaths.
  18. You don't need a new TM30. Now that she owns it, you can get a yellow book that officially registers you to that house. That will sidestep any address documentation you need. It can also be used to get your national ID card.
  19. Sales & marketing for custom engineered products. Started in Civil and ended in Mechanical. There is a lot of underutilized brain power among the farangs. It is a shame they don't let us do some volunteer teaching or pro bono consulting. There is plenty of free time for kids that need help with English or Algebra.
  20. What the Thais do is difficult to control but all foreigners should be fully vaxxed for entry and to extend or renew their visas. If you are not going to participate in public health initiatives, get out.
