cjinchiangrai replied to TimLMT's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I carry a thumbdrive on my keys with all of the critical documents. License, passport, insurance for auto and medical. If you cant speak it is critical. Make sure the tirak can get to your financial data in an emergency. -
sin sod or not she was already married
cjinchiangrai replied to kingstonkid's topic in Marriage and Divorce
At 50 and divorced her sin sod number is zero. No Thai guy would marry her at all so she should be happy to have you. Yes there is the family to deal with but a reasonable family might set you back 1-2000 a month, after the wedding if you live there. Be careful. They sometimes put up show money and some is used to help pay for the wedding but a very nice village wedding should be under 50k. Some jewelry as a wedding gift is normal but big cash to the family is not. -
Just to go back to the basics, the rate of return for an investment is evaluated at the nominal interest rate for government bonds (0% risk and maybe 2% return) plus the inflation rate plus the risk factor. Therefore, say 2% for base, 4% for inflation and 94% risk = 100% annual return. Sorry, I am not buying it.

Thailand should stop publicizing Covid numbers by April
cjinchiangrai replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It depends, April is still months away. What will the next variant look like, Omicron light or Delta on steroids? Just because Cod says it, does not make it the most appropriate plan. -
Thai hotel threatens customer with ฿3m lawsuit over bad review
cjinchiangrai replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
In the Koh Chang case it was an over the top assault by the customer on multiple platforms over something he did that was inappropriate in the first place. I am reserving judgement on this one until more facts are in. I have never had an issue with objective and honest reviews. -
It seems to make sense but really doesn't. The hotels would need to meet the more stringent ASQ certification and include meals and medical supervision. SHA and ASQ are not the same. This has been on the horizon for a while and the Thai insurance companies just started offering cheaper symptomatic only policies to compete with foreign vendors that have been doing it all along.

Danish man missing since 2015 found alive and well

So does he take the wife back to Denmark? He won't be allowed back in Thailand for a while. -
Hope for same-sex marriage still a faint glimmer in Thailand
cjinchiangrai replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I don't believe it is true that gays don't want kids but first things first. Recognize the marriage, then move on to confirming the rights that that entails. There is a shortage of adoptive parents and it seems that expansion of the adoption pool could help. -

The ones burning books and censoring universities are not the progressives and never have been. -

By that logic, we should bring back slavery, if the majority wants it. Equal access and equal treatment are not important. -
Thailand road carnage continues: 12,000 dead this year so far
cjinchiangrai replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
True, but the body has to be on the ground to run over it. The car that knocked the bike over left already. The truck was probably tailgating though. -

5 million dead people might disagree. -
Thailand road carnage continues: 12,000 dead this year so far

At some level, both are to blame. When I am behind the wheel, I have only one mission, get there without injuring anyone. Time does not matter, who is first in line does not matter, whether I am in your way or not does not matter. The police are so busy pulling over people for no helmet, they do not pay attention to speeding and illegal passing that kills so many. It is a daily event to be passing a bike on the shoulder while some moron is passing me in the opposing lane. It really crowds the bike.
