  1. My ex wife was a bit upset about it the other night. She has been following them. Apparently he’s from Melbourne too. So sad. Her current boyfriend got dengue in Phuket a few years ago and it was tough.
  2. I pay for youtube $15 a month. I did hesitate at first but I watch it a lot and well worth it. Pay $8 for Netflix. No complaints. Pay $40 a month for Foxtel in Australia. Now that is a waste but it has some things like recording and access to good aps and has good news and some other stuff so keep it for now. I am in Australia. Posting here because.
  3. In terms of trustworthiness my girlfriend seems to see each new day as a new beginning. Things didn't turn out as her prayers at the temple said they would. Oh well. Tomorrow's a new beginning.
  4. Then you have Thai people who believe in buddha and Ganesh and snake gods etc. I asked my girlfriend to explain how it works and who's in charge but she thinks I am being churlish.
  5. Correct. Could be 120 baht for a thai massage and 170 for an aromatherapy. Despite much more payment to shop, and expertise of staff member to give the aromatherapy massage, not much more so they rely on tips and based on some of the replies here it's not looking good.
  6. It's funny sometimes how we base tip on price. I might have a good cheap meal with good service but the tip will be lower than at a more expensive restaurant where the service is the same. Similar with massage possibly as if the 90 minutes was 500 you may give less even if massage same. Getting to the point 200 baht is a nice tip in my opinion. Not amazing but probably more than many would offer.
  7. New Wes Anderson movie, new to Netflix in last few days, 'The wonderful story of Henry Sugar' makes a point that you may do meditation with a certain aim in mind but if you do it long enough you may not want the things you thought you wanted. Profound. Or not.
  8. As a fellow public servant my advice is draw a line in the sand. The old government super schemes are good and each extra year the amount they go up is a lot especially if you had a recent promotion. But being a public servant tends to make you a bit conservative and risk averse and you can wait too long. Once not a public servant I think you might feel much freer and be happy to have more fun and wish you had have done it before. Says me who is working for eight more months.
  9. If you join Club Jetstar and buy during sales you can get super bargains. Say less than 6000 each way. Done it 3 times post covid. Tend to think holiday starts in Thailand but rethinking that after a few delayed flights. In Thailand lots of bargain hotels in Khao Lak and Koh Chang at 3.5 to 4.5 star hotels. Phuket and Bangkok a bit expensive compared to those quieter locations which have seemed to remain quiet post covid.
  10. I was reading your post about german music. Kraftwerk, Nena, and others were mentioned. Next songs by them showed up on my feed on youtube as well as Da Da da by The Trio and Der Kommissar by Falco. So I listened to them. And it was good.
  11. You be like Nomadland
  12. That's no good. Oh well back to Day 1. 2 beers is better than 10 beers.
  13. Youtube has all sorts. Probably the pretty upbeat videos get the most views. I recall Paddy getting pretty cynical as he went through Issan feeling it was the same thing over and again. Make a video saying how much it sucks. See what happens.
  14. No. Winter ended 12 days ago and it's now Spring. Forecast for Sydney and Melbourne pretty nice for next seven days with sunshine and almost all days between 20 and 30. Sounds better than excessive heat.
  15. Here with have ones with separate spices, chile, etc.
  16. Hope that's not a thing. Don't want to be watched thanks. If you think though, in practical terms, what would this dead person be i.e. what is there state of mind. How boring would it be for them to follow one of us around. Making sure we don't drink too much beer or we are careful crossing the road. If they have changed into some form of ethereal light or goodness then are they really the same imperfect annoying person they were when they were alive or are they somehow enlightened but still the same person. Hard to make a ghost or spirit or something make sense.
  17. No point debating this because faith by definition is not necessarily logical. You could instead be saving souls. A recent bar girl thread has some horrid posts. Rather than debating Gods existence why not show why he is your inspiration and show the heathens the error of their ways. Praise Jesus.
  18. Have fond memories of the Far Eastern Economic review piled up on my fathers desk. Would open one up from time to time but not much of interest for a teenager. Liked the Economist. Not dry at all and good summaries of goings on in the world.
  19. Businesses need deductions for real business expenses such as wages and the things they buy to produce what they sell. The problem is as you say the loopholes, particularly with deductions claimed from international structures, and opportunities to avoid tax in general with often weak poorly resourced IRS, or equivalent, playing catch up. For every dollar governments spent on IT and audit capability and smart legislation introduced in a timely way they’d get $10 back in taxes. That is with existing tax rates. Often it’s the wage earners who bear the brunt. They are the low hanging fruit - they say limit wage rises as economy bad or limit wage rises as economy too good due to inflation but marginal taxes often much higher than for businesses.
  20. I notice there are a lot less reviews than previously at places I go. Probably google or some other new media reviews taking over a bit. So given fewer reviews the risk of fake ones might be higher. Still a good place for price comparison for hotels.
  21. Understandable that a flamboyant person may be moved to do something like that at a key moment like that. I can understand though women’s and others reaction - in a moment of success and power for women the holding of her head and strong kiss is sending a message of control and compliance. You might think the last bit is over the top but would you like it if at a key moment of YOUR success some one holds you by the head and plants a kiss on your lips. But worse things happen at sea, and if he acknowledged he should have taken care and had no prior issues, it could have been left there.
  22. Depending on how long you’ve been with her and your financial situation you could consider leaving her something in your will and letting her know. Make you feel good and her feel good about the relationship you have had.
  23. This comment won’t age well. You have backed the wrong horse. The dream is over. His bravado as he slips deeper into a mire of legal quicksand day by day is amusing but sad.
  24. Thais definitely have a different temperament and often a certain gentleness and grace lacking in some in say Australia. If I base Australians by the news or media or Jetstar flights I am not keen but based on neighbours and friends and workmates they are as nice as any people.
  25. My girlfriend and I are seriously considering staying a few months at a time in Koh Chang once I retire next year. Then to Australia. It depends how much stimulation you need but nice food and beaches and forest does me fine for a few months.
