I think woke is a fair word for criticism of people or businesses putting forward ideas that do not appear to be consistent with their actions, or appear to be done simply to satisfy a particular part of society, e.g. consumers, or to avoid criticism or for other gain. So it is a thing. Often though, the lazy and the undereducated and the haters, can use it as a blunt tool to deny likely reality, or to belittle those attempting to find a better way of doing things, or to belittle those who simply want to live differently but want to have a say. This type of user of the word will forget people aren't perfect and hold others to a much higher standard than that to which they hold themselves. Also, if they find one advocate of a theory or idea as being flawed they'll be happy to unreasonably make all others guilty by association, e.g. scientists and such. So normally the use of the word is tedious and predictably depressing.

I think the advantages and disadvantages are pretty obvious. Can you imagine being with a 25 year old who needs to take a photo of everything and is constantly on social media and talks about nothing but trivialities and the constant theme is how beautiful she is and how you love her so much. Some older ones aren't much better these days. Mine was fun and pretty down to earth but being Thai and young there is still a certain gap that can't be filled. No need for intellectual chat as I dont go for that much in any case but it's nice to have some similar history and understanding of things and how the world works. But the young ones are certainly fun and appealing in other ways.

Fair enough. Wouldn’t worry me but can see how that can seem overly politically correct and a bit lame too. Trying too hard. It’s a fine line between accepting people as they want to be and having a voice, and on the other hand, feeling they are forcing new definitions and ways of living on the broader community. Most things like this I see as the former rather than the latter.

I know. I married a girl 18 years younger and divorced her too. Good for 5 years. Sometimes I look at the photos and think boy she looks young. I didn’t mind the attention sometimes. We never went to Pattaya though. Can be fun but also hard being the older one. Not all fun. If I missed the joke Bill97 please ignore my post.

Australian Aged Pension

Sounds right. You’ll receive it at the partner rate rather than single rate assuming you and your partner have no issues with the income test. This might help a bit https://aboutretirement.com.au/age-pension-when-one-partner-is-eligible/ -

I wouldnt recommend the Australian apples I have had here. Cold storage a long time and mushy. Champu’s will do. Maybe some stores get them fresher. -
A lot of comments I disagree with. Flip flopping may happen a lot but it doesn’t make it acceptable without a reasoned explanation. Too much and it is a concern for judgement and character. I think it is very reasonable for people to give Kamala additional scrutiny given the age of the prospective president. Not fate but statistics indicate a significant risk for Biden of failing to reach the end of his term as a 100 per cent able President as should surely be desirable. A higher risk with Biden may still be worthwhile given the options but let’s be better than others and not let loyalty or fandom diminish reality and the reasonable concerns of the electorate.

Probably fine for older expats. Wonder if it’s as Ok for say 16 to 25 year olds. In my youth a lot of dope smokers seemed dopey and it seemed to affect their ability to get things done. Some not all. I know they have to be a certain age to get it legally but easy to get. Research may show its dandy and fine.

The last paragraph encompasses your idea. Seems a bit lazy given it is well known Newtons laws have been updated or addressed in the 20th century and onwards. It is fascinating that the theory of an invisible something is now required to explain the universe. It does not smack of faith at all but an observation that all the preceding theories don’t cut it and dark matter is the best fit. Keep a line between best fit theory and faith. Science does and religion doesn’t. You know that.

The magazines are biased. Some are run by people who think he’s a dick and don’t want to garner support for him. If it was a Republican candidate they and the readers liked they’d do something. Not the magazines job to support candidates they don’t like. They aren’t objective arbiters of giving equal time for both sides. Murdoch magazines will balance it a bit.

But if I recall in Issan you had super noisy neighbours. Or nearby dogs. Or both. That alone would get me out of there. Seriously. -

Khao Lak is nice at the moment. You gave it a go. Sometimes good to admit you’re not into culture and temples as much as you thought and get to the beach. -
'Truth is sacred', Tom Hanks tells Harvard graduates

All 3 are more about feelings than science. You are not likely to get doctors or scientists talking about such issues except the first one where they may consider a broader definition is appropriate due to sociological research and such. In the Gervais example I think he didn’t like a put down about Tim Allen. Totally different issue. I find Tom Hanks interesting as he is interesting in interviews but many of his movies don’t do it for me. Forrest Gump seemed silly though I could only watch a little bit. -
If he wins he wins but it would be nice for you to acknowledge given an objective look at the facts that, based on his inability to accept democratic outcomes so far, there is a huge threat of the same and worse in a second term. That that would be a serious concern. Maybe you have acknowledged this.

I think some of these right winger extremists were a bit like Trump. Not accepting the democratic process, ie the election results, but kind of half assed and not smart about doing something about it. I think some of these right wingers would be sitting in jail genuinely shocked that it came to this. It was part an attempt to overturn the election and part game. But they did in fact do the crime and now have to do the time.

The workers United shall never be defeated. What if she had 10 years as an employee, few sick days, well regarded, filled shifts when required. Then makes a fairly tame joke. Possibly had a bad day. Give her a training session on polite behaviour and put her back in the frey of what likely often is a pretty painful job to have.

If you look at productreview.com.au there are pages and pages of similar stories to yours. All with one star reviews. I thought Jetstar weren’t the best but nothing like this. I used to fly with them a decade ago but it looks like now they are completely beyond the pale.
