Xi Jinping is not satisfied with winning the trade war
placeholder replied to AndreasHG's topic in Political Soapbox
No doubt China's treatment of the Uighurs is disgraceful. But not even Genocide Watch supports your looney claims of 30 million killed. Or even a million Or even 100,000..In fact, they make no charges of mass slaughter at all. The worst reference is to the murder of 200 Uighurs by Chinese troops during a protest. Chinese genocide of Uyghurs in Xinjiang continues https://www.genocidewatch.com/single-post/chinese-genocide-of-uyghurs-in-xinjiang-continues Stop making things up. Still, it's good to see you standing up for oppressed Muslims, -
You sure about that? Boeing says China not accepting planes over US tariffs Boeing's CEO confirmed Wednesday that China had stopped accepting new aircraft due to the US-China trade war, as the company's shares surged following a smaller than expected loss. In a televised interview with CNBC, Boeing Chief Executive Kelly Ortberg said Chinese customers had "stopped taking delivery of aircraft due to the tariff environment," adding that if the halt continued, the aviation giant would soon market the jets to other carriers. President Donald Trump's trade conflicts with China and other countries loom as a question mark for Boeing, a major US exporter, despite Wednesday's solid results. https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/boeing-says-china-not-accepting-143702690.html

More Orville-Bargo invoking the complexity of the world economy. Apparently if you had your way it would be no such thing as economic models. If the US was the only country that ran trade deficits, you might have a point. But it isn't so you don't.

It doesn't seem that way to most of us who live in this universe "Boeing's Chinese customers are refusing delivery of new planes built for them due to tariffs, the US planemaker has confirmed, as a third Boeing jet started returning to the US today. "Due to the tariffs, many of our customers in China have indicated that they will not take delivery," CEO Kelly Ortberg said during a first quarter earnings call yesterday. Ortberg said China was the only country where Boeing was facing this issue and the planemaker would redirect new jet supply to other customers eager for earlier deliveries due to a global shortage of new commercial planes." https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2025/0424/1509196-chinese-customers-are-rejecting-new-jets-due-to-tariffs/#:~:text=Chinese customers are rejecting new jets due to tariffs%2C Boeing confirms&text=Boeing's Chinese customers are refusing, returning to the US today. -
Now they're top secret are they? I thought they weren't even classified? Giving you these people and their prejudices, I believe in their ignorance.

Cherry picking much? "Still, Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent gave conflicting accounts of the state of negotiations Wednesday, with Bessent saying “both sides are waiting to speak to the other,” without providing further detail. The secretary reiterated remarks he made the previous day, predicting near-term de-escalation." So who knows. They may be in talks to negotiate. But they are not negotiating, I believe that the Chinese are in this to humiliate Trump and are prepared to go quite far to do so. They keep on stating that so long as Trump's unilaterally imposed tariffs remain in force, no negotiations. The thing is, last time Trump was in office, he caught the Chinese unprepared. Since then they've been preparing for just such an eventuality. Xi and China may not be beloved worldwide, but it's clear that Trump is now the more odious party in the eyes of the world.

I didn't see "orange man bad" in the editorial. Maybe you forgot to put on your reading glasses? Just a guess. -
And that goes double for those Marxists in the editorial department of Rupert Murdoch's Wall Street Journal!

Actually, I think I read about that on the Wall Street journal. I think this was the headline: Anonymous Member of Aseannow.com Strikes It RichThanks to Wise Investments

The circle of top advisers in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s orbit has shrunk in recent days to little more than his wife, lawyer, and two lower-level officials — leaving the Pentagon’s lead office without longtime expertise or clear direction. Hegseth’s decision to fire three senior aides last week and reassign his chief of staff has blown a hole in his leadership team, severing essential lines of communication across the department and leading to fears about dangerous slip-ups such as weapons program delays. The wholesale turnover just 100 days into Hegseth’s tenure has been remarkable for its speed. And it has left the first-time government official without trusted staff who understand Washington — just as he faces fallout from a series of scandals that have led to rampant speculation inside the building about how long he’ll keep his job. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/04/24/hegseth-pentagon-leadership-vacuum-00308620 https://archive.ph/mEJye I don't understand how this went wrong. What is the problem with hiring someone who has no experience of managing a large institution but is telegenic and works out a lot? If there were a movie that needed to cast someone to play Defense Chief, he'd by my choice. Not only that, but as one Trumpist pointed out elsewhere, he has a lovely wife and children. Strange. And sad.

Stocks, dollar slide as Trump's attacks on Fed shake markets
placeholder replied to BLMFem's topic in Political Soapbox
You are right. The economy was doing well. Yet Trumpists in this forum have been claiming that the economy is heading for a recession because of the cyclical nature of the economy. That was to forestall assigning the cause of the possible recession to Trump. Anyway, the first quarter of the year wouldn't have been affected much if at all by what Trump has done. Let's wait and see what the 2nd quarter looks like. And if it looks bad, the Trumpists will once again claim it's just part of the business cycle. -

Not exactly. The news section was always excellent. Maybe even the best in the country. But yes the editorial department was daft. In fact so daft that the news section once sent them an open letter pleading with them to please fact-check before they publish their editorials.- 92 replies

The Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit organization that studies the federal work force, has used budget figures to produce a rough estimate that firings, re-hirings, lost productivity and paid leave of thousands of workers will cost upward of $135 billion this fiscal year. At the Internal Revenue Service, a DOGE-driven exodus of 22,000 employees would cost about $8.5 billion in revenue in 2026 alone, according to figures from the Budget Lab at Yale University. The total number of departures is expected to be as many as 32,000. https://archive.ph/f9UTL

Fox News Viewers Get An Uncomfortable Truth About Trump On Live TV
placeholder replied to BLMFem's topic in Political Soapbox
What don't you understand about the fact that it was Trump who signed the agreement with a date specified for the US to be out. What's more, when the Taliban violated terms of the agreement while Trump was still President, he bravely did nothing. Well, actually he tried to speed up the pullout. Trump ordered rapid withdrawal from Afghanistan after election loss "President Donald Trump ordered a rapid withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Afghanistan and Somalia in the wake of his 2020 election loss, but senior officials never followed through on the plan, according to testimony released by the congressional January 6 committee on Thursday... Journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa referenced the surprise memo in their book “Peril” on the Trump presidency, released last month. They wrote that the idea did not go through any of the traditional chain of command protocols, and ultimately senior staff believed it did not have legal standing requiring them to follow through with the plan. https://www.militarytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2022/10/13/trump-ordered-rapid-withdrawal-from-afghanistan-after-election-loss/ -
If the Chinese really were holding talks with the USA they would say nothing. They wouldn't be saying this: China says there are no negotiations with the US over tariffs China on Thursday denied U.S. President Donald Trump’s assertion that the two sides were involved in active negotiations over tariffs, saying that any suggestion of progress in this matter was as groundless as “trying to catch the wind.”.... “China’s position is consistent and we are open to consultations and dialogues, but any form of consultations and negotiations must be conducted on the basis of mutual respect and in an equal manner,” said Ministry of Commerce spokesman He Yadong. “Any claims about the progress of China-U.S. trade negotiations are groundless as trying to catch the wind and have no factual basis.” https://archive.ph/hjQDA This is the kind of language used to humiliate an opponent. I think China's goal is to humiliate Trump.

Please. It was to keep the price of oil lower. You really believes he considers European nations to be his allies? That would raise a chuckle from the Europeans. Although a good chunk of of Russia is considered to be European so maybe you have a small percentage of a point.
