Denmark scraps public holiday to boost defence budget
placeholder replied to Social Media's topic in World News
This holiday is "part of Easter"? Really? I think most Christian theologians would challenge your contention. And even it it were true, you think it's a good thing that a government endorses a particular religious practice? Oh wait a minute...Of course you would think that given how closely and corruptly tied together are the Russian Government and the Russian Orthodox Church. -

It's possible, really? Here's the definition of sub-human: So apparently you can be not human but be white. Here's the definition of subhuman of a lower order of being than the human. https://www.google.com/search?q=sub+human&oq=sub+human&aqs=edge..69i57j0i512l4j0i10i512j0i512l2j69i64.1847j0j9&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 So, saying a sub-human can be white makes about as much sense as saying that a chimpanzee could be white or black or categorized racially in any way that lumped them with humans. -

Rational folks would expect a pollster not to take a political stance. Just because Rasmussen pays poeple to do its polling, that doesn't make it reliable. It could be that it's found a profitable market niche and is acting accordingly. And it's telling that you consistently engage in name calling to characterize those who disagree with you. Not a trait that's indicative of rational thinking. It's also telling that you offered response at all to examination of the falseness of your other claims. -

Another version of the arithmetically challenged arguments offered by Brexiters. I remember before Brexit actually occurred that Brexiters were claiming that Brexit was going to hurt the EU worse than the UK. This seems to be just another case of this kind of thinking. What don't Brexiters understand about the fact that the EU's economy is over 5 times as big as the UK's. Yet somehow to them this means the EU needs the UK more than the UK needs the EU.

Are tortoises the real power behind world government? I'm not claiming tortoises are the real power behind world government. I'm just asking a question.

I rather enjoyed this characterization of the current Russian effort in the Donbas: “Russia’s big new offensive is underway,” said Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, in an interview last week with the Ukrainian edition of Forbes magazine. “But going in a way that not everyone can even notice it.” https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/27/world/europe/russia-offensive-ukraine.html

Could you share with us the evidence that the EU continues to weaken? It's certainly has grown in popularity with EU citizens over the past several years. Even those right wing nationalist parties that used to inveigh against it found out that stance didn't go over well with voters. Whereas Brexit is not exactly well regarded by most UK citizens any more.

From the NYTimes Ms. von der Leyen reiterated that the European Court of Justice “is the sole and ultimate arbiter of E.U. law.” She added that the court “will have the final say on E.U. law and single market issues.” https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/02/27/world/northern-ireland-brexit-trade-deal I guess Britons ever ever ever shall be slaves.

There are many, many sound reasons to criticize Musk. But as for being racist. His father may be an awful person but..... "In 1972, he was elected to the Pretoria City Council as a representative of the anti-apartheid Progressive Party.[9] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Errol_Musk The Musk family were not Afrikaners which is that community the harbored the most hardcore racists. -

Really? Research Shows Black Drivers More Likely to Be Stopped by Police A new study, undertaken by Ravi Shroff, an assistant professor holding joint appointments at NYU Steinhardt and NYU CUSP, and his colleagues at the Stanford Open Policing Project, found that in a dataset of nearly 100 million traffic stops across the United States, black drivers were about 20 percent more likely to be stopped than white drivers relative to their share of the residential population. The study also found that once stopped, black drivers were searched about 1.5 to 2 times as often as white drivers, while they were less likely to be carrying drugs, guns, or other illegal contraband compared to their white peers. They found that black drivers made up a smaller share of those stopped at night, when it’s more difficult to discern the race of a driver, which suggests that racial bias may influence stop decisions. https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2020/may/black-drivers-more-likely-to-be-stopped-by-police.html How We Investigated Racial Disparities in Federal Mortgage Data https://themarkup.org/show-your-work/2021/08/25/how-we-investigated-racial-disparities-in-federal-mortgage-data Partners in study gave legal memo a lower rating when told author wasn't white https://www.abajournal.com/news/article/hypothetical_legal_memo_demonstrates_unconscious_biases Name Discrimination Study Finds Lakisha And Jamal Still Less Likely To Get Hired Than Emily And Greg https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2021/08/18/name-discrimination-jobs Decades-Old Housing Discrimination Case Plagues Donald Trump https://www.npr.org/2016/09/29/495955920/donald-trump-plagued-by-decades-old-housing-discrimination-case
