  1. It's a good thing energy costs haven't skyrocketed in the UK. Because in that unlikely event, people might have to choice between death by exposure or death by starvation.
  2. I don't know about you but when I was a kid in primary school, I learned about something called the water cycle. And I learned that the reason it's called a cycle is that when water evaporates, it's not a one way trip. It actually returns to the land and the oceans as rain, snow, hail, sleet. You know, precipitation. The point being it doesn't just stay up in the atmosphere forever. NASA offers a site for children that explains this in some detail: https://gpm.nasa.gov/education/water-cycle
  3. What exactly would stop Germany from sending existing battle tanks to Ukraine? You think Ukraine won't accept any tanks except those that are factory fresh?
  4. And, of course, this is your way of distracting from misleadingly representing the varying cases. It's not about "not as bad as" it's about criminality.
  5. A misleading partial quote from you. I was responding to this assertion: "Sounds like you are saying possessing classified docs is legal until one is caught. I'm no lawyer, but it sounds a false assertion." Obviously this was false and what better way to set this person straight than to cite the current overwhelmingly salient example. Not that that was on their mind in the least.
  6. It's the Trump people who keep on comparing these cases to Trump and claiming double standards. And it's not a matter of "not being as bad as Trump" but rather a question of criminality. As has been exhaustively pointed out, there is no evidence so far of criminality in the cases of Biden or Pence. No evidence that Biden or Pence defied their legal counsel, no evidence that they refused to return documents when requested by the govt, and no evidence that they obstructed justice by lying about possession of these documents.
  7. When they start raving about bugs and caves, the only thing their comments deserve is ridicule.
  8. Because I disagreed with your interpretation and asked you to reconcile it with reality. You know, what you wrote before: "Yes, X-boxs are getting an update which will mean they consume less power and will be slower . Which is the context of the tweet"
  9. Those of us who are reasonably familiar with current events understand that he has linked M&M's to political bêtes noires of the right. It's the clueless who should be directing their inquiries to Ted Cruz.
  10. Sure. That's what we do here. When we have a question about the meaning of what some public figure says, we contact them directly to ask what they meant. In fact, we do it all the time in this forum because we know that those public figures will drop what they are doing to reply to us. If you think that this is the case, they why even bother commenting on it at all? Anyway, don't take it personally, but your comment is ridiculous.
  11. "First your gas stove, then your coffee, and now they're gunning for your Xbox" has something to with consuming less power and being slower? Who exactly is "they"?
  12. That really isn't the main legal problem. In fact, it's not a legal problem at all. It is a political problem.
  13. Maybe if you were a Republicans with a magic wand, you might be able to do that. Otherwise, there's a little thing called the Constitution that doesn't give you that authority.
  14. I did a little experiment and did a google search with the phrase "Brunt calving due to climate change". All the results that came up said in one way or another that the event was not due to climate change.
  15. Actually, candide said your comment was stupid, not you. And given that your contention was baseless and ridiculous, I don't his characterization of your comment was necessarily unfair.
  16. As the article notes these are the same rail and truck routes that have been supplying Ukraine all along. So far, the Russians have failed to interdict them. Not surprising, given their general incompetence. As other articles have noted, the Leopard 2 should be fully operational within 2 months at most.
  17. Most people try to conceal their ignorance. But there are some few who advertise it. Maybe you should find another somebody to explain to you the difference between weather and climate. And who cares what your anonymous somebody says? It's what climatologists say that counts.
  18. Wrong! "The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) said the formation of the new iceberg was not due to climate change – which is accelerating the loss of sea ice in the Arctic and parts of Antarctica – but to a natural process called “calving”. “This calving event has been expected and is part of the natural behaviour of the Brunt Ice Shelf,” said BAS glaciologist Dominic Hodgson. “It is not linked to climate change.” https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/1/25/giant-iceberg-breaks-off-near-antarctica-research-station#:~:text=The British Antarctic Survey (BAS,natural process called “calving”.
  19. It doesn't matter whether or not the iceberg is made of fresh water. What matter is whether its floating on the water or is located on land. When water turns to ice its volume increases by about 10%. So when it floats on water about 10% of the ice is above the water line. When it melts, it shrinks back again t0 90% of its former volume. So it's pretty much a wash, In more ways than one. On the other hand, these floating ice shelves are slows the motion of glaciers on dry land to the sea. So if these ice floating ice shelves melt or break apart more quickly, than the glaciers will flow faster into the sea. And that will raise sea levels. As it turn out, there is increased amount of relatively warm water that is undermining this ice shelf. So global warming is hastening glacial flow into the sea.
  20. And, in a similar case of right-wing foolishness: Microsoft's Changes to Xbox Console Leave Republicans Outraged https://www.newsweek.com/microsoft-changes-xbox-console-climate-change-republicans-ted-cruz-1776054
  21. So according to your way of thinking the ukrainians should simply stay in place and leave the Russians with whatever Ukrainian territory they hold now?
