  1. Not sure about evisas, and at the airport. But at the land border I did get a VE with a TV in my passport. I asked the immigration officer, and he said no problem.
  2. The agent I have been using for 2 years offers an alternative to the evisa. Fly into Saigon and she will arrange a VOA (for 200 bucks), which gets an initial stay of 30 days, but is extendable indefinitely for 50 $ a month. Not sure how legit this is, but the woman has a good reputation in Vũng Tàu.
  3. Safety first. That's what it says at every construction site.
  4. The Cambodians will be delighted to welcome such a distinguished guest: A quality tourist from Los.
  5. Actually, this case makes a strong point for increasing the frequency and manner of the mandatory repoting: Let's say every 10 days in person check-in with the authorities required for all foreigners.
  6. After trying several creams without success, a dermatologist prescribed Tracolimus, which got rid of it a couple of days.
  7. Ever seen Indonesia 's grinning nitwit of a President. There will be no waking up. Benighted forever.
  8. Vietnam did away with this dual pricing nonsense years ago. Here are the entrance fees to a park on Phu Quoc Island :
  9. The national parks used to be 5 Baht for everyone,Thais and farangs. That was back in the eighties and into the nineties. I was a regular visitor of Khao Yai, biking from Prachinburi to Pak Chon and back. Late nineties (don't remember the exact year) someone in the Forest Department must have noticed that most private attractions - like the Katoey shows and the elephant, snake, crocodile, monkey etc shows were ripping off farangs and getting away with it, decided to follow suit and raised the park fees from 5 to 20 Baht for Thais, and from 5 to 200 Baht for farangs. A 40 fold increase made a nice welcome to Siam mat, on which I never stepped. And, by the way, they would have to pay me a lot more than 200 Baht to go and see and suffer through one of these Katoey shows. Plenty of ladyboys up and about in the streets. Nó need for any shows. Their national parks aren't that special either, easy to stay away from. Places like Angkor Wat you have to bite the bullet and cough up the money, but nothing in Thailand that comes close.
  10. Spot on. When I arrived in Thailand in the eighties, Bangkok had virtually no rain from the end of October till April. That guarantee of no/very little rain has shrunk to just a month and a half. (middle of December to end of January).
  11. Thailand has an E-visa?? Is that a new thing? I know that Cambodia and Vietnam have E-visas, but Thailand.
  12. You don't need a specialist for root canals. It's a standard procedure that virtually every dentist can do. Standard is 3 sessions over 2 to 3 weeks. All depends on how infected your tooth is. Occasionally 2 sessions, sometimes 4 are needed. Out of around 15 root canals I have undergone, 2 subsequently got either reinfected or more likely the original treatment didn't go deep enough and required a second root treatment, which was more expensive and took months. So might not be a good thing to rush the treatment. Get an x-ray done in Australia and Sent it to the dentist of your choice, and who might be able to tell you whether it can be done in 8 days.
  13. I love both durian and beer.I eat durian for breakfast so that it is out of my system by the time the happy hour comes around. While small amounts of durian are okay to eat with alcohol ,a whole 3 or 4 kg durian makes you feel bloated, and alcohol just doesn't taste good.
  14. cambodia yes(Cambodians get in for free) Vietnam no(they stopped this <deleted> years ago) Parks in Thailand used to be 5 Baht for everyone:i regularly biked in Khao Yai in the nineties until somebody got the idea of Farang gouging.just say no
  15. It's not just the big bikes, these braindead idiots manage to make a moped sound like an Airbus taking off. That's really all they are good at, noise pollution. But what do you expect. The Cartesian 'I think therefore I exist' is not available to them. So it's "I am a nuisance therefore I exist".
  16. Philippines or Thailand, apples or oranges, papayas or mangoes, golden pillow durian or long stem durian. Philippines has still some of that exotic 3rd world feel to it,the Thailand of today has lost most of that. If yoy are an alcoholic the Philippines is cheaper, otherwise with food and hotels being more expensive in PI,Thailand is the cheaper option. Everybody seems to be in agreement on Thailand being safer. Not so sure that is true. Been attacked several times by farang hating Thais, cursed hundreds of times (farang kee nok /farang ahia..) attempted violent mugging once, all in Los, other than a couple of con men unsuccessfully trying to swindle me and one hooker emptying my wallet nothing in the PI. in spite of bicycling all over the Philippines, day and night, never felt threatened there . While the traffic is dangerous in both countries,Thailand has the edge : a lot more motorcycles, faster and crazier. Thais are one of the most xenophobic countries in the world. Don't think the Pinoys can measure up in this respect.
  17. My new HP laptop and my old Huawei smartphone have been paired, but every time I try to connect them via Bluetooth, it says connected for a second or two before connection fails. Both devices are easily connected with my Bluetooth headset. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
  18. Well, you know what Darwin said about some creatures being more evolved than others. Gym creatures, while muscular like gorillas, are on average not that evolved.
  19. Oh yeah, the full moon which will, of course, attract the millionaire and billionaire quality tourists that the Thai authorities are after. Good guys (the moneyed class) in , bad guys (bird<deleted> farangs) out.
  20. Balding men around the world are aware of that. Because the 5mg pill is only marginally more expensive than the 1 mg pill, they break the bigger pill into pieces to save money on top of saving hair. A win-win situation. ????????????
  21. I thought it was 20000 Baht (cash or bank account) that was needed for a TV. When did that change? Or is that the mercurial PP embassy again, making things up as the mood strikes them. In PP always go through an agency.
