  1. Yes, hard to make sense of the comparative numbers :Vietnam over the last 2 or 3 weeks has been steadily going up from 20000 to close to 200000,while Thailand has been basically unchanged at around 20000 cases. Omicron arrived IN LOS two weeks before it got to Vietnam.
  2. Ruble actually. A plummeting currency. One Ruble doesn't even get you a single Baht anymore. Headed for parity with the 'satang' or Vietnamese dong.
  3. 555. Yeah. I also give serial killers a lot of thought. Fascinated by the Zodiac,Ted Bundy etc. Doesn't mean I will become one myself.
  4. But what if you change your mind on the way down? Really high buildings it can take a while to get to your final destination.(you could of course carry a parachute just in case) If you jump from a lower floor you might survive and spend the rest of your life paralyzed or in chronic pain. Shoot yourself in the head is superfast. Poisoning and slashing your wrist, you can call an ambulance if you feel like you have made a mistake. With my extreme fear of heights, jumping would be my last option.More afraid of heights than of death. So I would rather die than jump.
  5. Don't think tourism has much to do with the value of the Baht. The first year of the Pandemic the Baht kept gaining with tourism in the doldrums, then it started falling for 6 months with no change in tourism. Now rising again. There are many other factors that have a greater impact on the Baht than tourism.Maybe some Economist can enlighten us.
  6. Spot on :Thais can't do anything wrong. It's the bird<deleted> farangs that are ngo. Thailand number 1,as I was told so many times by Thais. No1 at what though??
  7. Any sleeping aid that does not disturb the REM and deep sleep phases of your sleep cycle could be regarded as natural. Benzos and most other sleeping pills do decrease the particularly important deep sleep phases. Zolpidem does it less so, and off-label low dose (25-100 mg) administration of Trazodone is supposed to maintain the normal pattern of the sleep cycle.
  8. I assume you are taking two 50mg tablets. You might not even need that much. As little as 25mg might do the trick.
  9. You are totally wrong about the aging aspect. Thai women often keep their youthful looks into their late twenties. A 25 year old might sometimes pass for a 19 year old, but somewhere around the age of 30 they do a giant leap. Within just a few years they manage to look 10 or more years older. I have never met a Thai woman in her forties that was still really attractive(without layers of makeup) . But you do find some farang women and Latinas at that age who are still stunning. SEA women do not age well.Men on the other hand do, which might be one reason why there is so much "chao choo", promiscuity, in Thailand. Thai men leaving their partners for a more youthful version.
  10. A new name a new image. It will be followed by the eradication of all prostitution and the strict enforcement of the zebra crossing laws.
  11. Would be wise to feign illness :coughing fits, body aches, headache, etc. Also what does a perfectly healthy person do for 10 days in a hospital bed?You get sick (it at least mentally) from not being sick.
  12. In the Philippines (and pretty much in most of SEA), if he jails all corrupt officials, there won't be any left.
  13. Can they speak Thai or English, or do you have to speak Isan Lao or Isan Khmer? ????????????
  14. Count yourself lucky that you are over in the land of smiles. As bad as it is in Thailand, here in Vietnam where I am now, it's a lot worse. they screw you over every which way they can. Looking forward to returning to LOS.
  15. They can pass any law they want in the land of scofflaws, it's not gonna make a significant impact, if any at all. I remember when they passed the 'only hands free' calls allowed law, I had a feeling that not fewer but more motorists had their phones in their hands. Probably only because I was paying more attention, but in definitely didn't make a noticeable difference.
  16. They can't show pictures of sex workers as they do not officially exist IN LOS. Empty bars in Naklua prove that there is no prostitution on the Eastern Seaboard.
  17. Wouldn't mind being wrestled and pinned to the ground by her, all of course in the line of duty, I assume.
  18. Not that uncommon in certain areas of Central Bangkok. Extremely unlikely in the sticks.
  19. You obviously have never lived or moved around in the jurisdiction of the Thonglor police department. They used to place some of their fine officers at the Ekamai bus station and do random checks (luggage, pockets, everything short of cavity searches) on arriving and departing farangs. No passport or valid visa, and you would get an invitation to their Soi 55 office.
  20. My first hand information is kind of outdated. I distinctly remember overstaying once and not paying any fine with a doctor's note, but that was in the eighties. Life was a lot simpler and less regulated back then.
  21. He has a legitimate reason for overstaying. With a doctor's notice he will not be paying an overstay fine.
  22. Once you are out of greater Pattaya (30 years ago that would only take 5 minutes, now it takes 30 minutes) there are some lovely biking (I mean pedal bikes) routes. Pattaya to Bạn chang via the big Buddha, or to and around one of the many reservoirs are just a few examples. The ever expanding Pattaya city makes it less and less rewarding.
  23. Cambodia was my favorite in SEA around 20/25 years. Still had that feel of the unexplored wild west, hardly any tourists. People were really friendly. Hotels, food (not the best in the region, but if you know where to go decent enough) and alcohol were cheap. Great nightlife, especially the P4P part of it.Much cheaper than Thailand and the Philippines. And then it totally reversed within just a few months. I think it was in 2007 or 2008 when all of a sudden food prices doubled, tripled in some places. Hun Sen instituted this massive crackdown on prostitution all over the country. I first thought it would be be like Thailand. Crackdown, places close for a few weeks or months and then back to normal. But the crackdowns have more staying power over there, things never went back anywhere near to what they were before. The Chinese started invading Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. So yeah, the Cambodia of old and the way it is now, like day and night.
