You would think that 'The Nation' journalist would know better than to attach a photo of a Taiwanese airliner to an article about a flight from Guangzhou to Phuket.
The British guys working for The Nation may not know too well the geography of this part of the world... Far from UK ????

If Donald Trump at age 75 can recover from the virus, I don't see the fear of contracting the virus. //
It's out of subject, but you really think that you will be able to get the special drugs and treatments that he just got?
23 minutes ago, EricTh said:// The only virus test is to test them abroad before they board the plane.
I am sure Thai embassies should have the facility to do so and charge the applicant. //You realize that some people would have to travel hundreds or thousands kilometers (!) just for a 2-minutes PCR test in an embassy !!!

If you apply for an O-A Visa in your home country, then the passport needs to be valid at least 18 months.

We all know that conditions can vary from country to country.
To avoid this kind of contradictory answers, it would be useful that the OP indicate from which country/embassy he depends on...!
If he his from Germany, infos about UK or BE embassies are not really useful here.

Hard and cheap mattress ?
Don't use a mattress! Just buy one of these "top up" for mattress. (about 5-7 cm thick)
It's what I did last 2 years, and I slept very well ????

// along with lots of threads torn from local news about Thais losing a bunch of money to card fraud. And Thai banks saying "not our fault, not our problem".
You may have noticed that in many (most?) of these cases, it was a "family problem"...
I know that banks in my country (France) usually not consider it's a fraud (and then not cover it) when your card is used by someone close to you, family member. Same here.

Quarantine: No 'tourists' will go. //
So what about this ?
"about 1,600 people worldwide have applied to the Special Tourist Visa"
1'600 is not huge, but is still a fair number of 'tourists', far from zero.

Short tips? With 2 weeks quarantine on arrival?
How are they managing a short trip?
Uh? Statistics were from *before* Covid-19, of course.

The ridiculously low number of Elite members (448/7,000) showing an interest in returning tells its own story. People are not willing to be caged up as part of their holidays.
Hasty conclusions IMHO
I remember reading statistics from ThailandeElite, and the majority of Elite visa members where using it for very frequent but rather short trips to Thailand (before Covid). So probably few members may be interested in the long stay offer (90+ days) of this STV.

I can see not reason for it to be a problem next year.
That is until the 'current rules' are changed.
Non-O Extension rules for Retirement nearly not changed in last 15-20 years.
Only change I remember was last year for the duration of the 800k seasoning.
Edit: And of course they added the new "monthly income" method the year before, for countries whose embassy stopped to provide income letters.

"that number of people"?? How many? How do you know?
Most people on Non O Extension must still be in Thailand
I think that only a minority was abroad when Thailand closed its border.

The PCR test has a 99% accuracy meaning that in 1% of all tests will result in a false positive.
Unsure on that. Could mean that 1% will result in a false negative ?..
or more probably a combination of false positive/negative?.. but I ignore the ratio.

Not only that, but individual countries are at different stages of the pandemic and using different strategies.
How can you draw any sensible conclusions when you put them all in the Same Bag?
The 2 posts I replied to were talking about "shutting the globe down"
How can you get any status of "the globe"/"the world" without putting together data from all countries ?
You guys are just trying to find false excuses to "eliminate" data and graphs that you don't like... or who not match with your biased theory...

NEWS from Barrow: It seems Brits are denied the special tourist visa. Should we now lobby the UK Gov to deny entry to all Thai people?
Why bring Mr Barrow in this story ?
I don't remember seeing him posting such a "news" ??

Let's get our quarters sorted out and are we talking past or future tenses. Can it be that difficult?
Please complain to ThaiVisa's News Team (again)
The original Reuters article clearly say Q4; no ambiguity.
And BTW it would be nice to this team to put a link towards original articles
Thailand set for 50,000 foreign tourists in Q4, down 99.5% -industry body

A comment from someone who probably never visited Walking Street.
How could a place be a brothel when there is no "sexual activity" ?
And yes, maybe still a very few short-time rooms on this street, but marginal cases and the huge majority of businesses on Walking Street are places without sex, when not without nudity.

Unbelievable!!! And where does the brain trust in Bangkok think that the CCP Wuhan Coronavirus came from? Incase they are geographically challenged, let me help them....WUHAN Is IN CHINA! Where do the brilliant Thai decision makers think that the Asian Flu, the Hong Kong Flu, Avian Flu, Swine Flu and SARS came from? Duh! CHINA. //
Why care now where the virus came from? or which countries have been badly touched by this virus?
The only important thing to accept travelers from a country is its situation right now (or let say on last week or last month)
No doubt that China ranks very good with such criteria. China managed the Covid far better than many of our western countries... ;(

If titled walking street, why do they let cars driven on it?
stopped the madness!
Walking Street used to reopen to cars very late in the morning, maybe 3-4am (? unsure)
So nothing really strange to see the street nearly desert at that time.
I must admit it seems more desert as usual though. ;(

So basically if your Rich you can come in.
So having $16,000 in the bank makes you rich?
The opposite of that!
Looks like you are not very good in mathematical logic ????
You are rich => You can keep 500'000B in your account (you can come in)
So this is équivalent to :
You can't keep 500'000B in your account => You are not rich
The opposite of what you wrote ????
SURVEY: Majority of Thais don’t want foreign tourist – do you agree?

No, you don't, or at least not for all embassies.
For France by example, the COE process is made entirely by email.
