Showing baht 500000 in a bank account would not be considered as being rich.
Hum... I think that even many "rich people" don't keep such an amount on their Saving Account. Many people keep biggest part of their available money on another type on account, usually one that give interest, but they are not accepted by some Thai Embassies. ;(

It was COMPLETELY worth not having to make SEVERAL trips to Bangkok.

What are these "trips to Bangkok" that you seem to be so angry about?
Most people don't need such "trips" to get their yearly extension... (AFAIK )
Can't your Embassy issue documents and send them by mail?

Question: If Pattaya attracts high end tourists, how many helipads are on buildings in Pattaya?
There are a few buildings with helipads (at least Royal cliff, Wong Amat Tower, A-One, The Urban, The Sands, ... and even VT3, VT5, VT7!),
but in Pattaya most hotels/condos will chose for a rooftop swimming-pool rather than an helipad.
BTW not really difficult to land at the marina helipad and have a taxi to your near hotel.

I very much doubt the room 7 19000 bht scenario. Jomtien has always been very straight forward in all my extensions. //
Jomtien is easy for Retirement Extensions, sure, but for the first step - the conversion to the Non-O and the first Extension - I heard many people being "offered" such deal of nearly 20'000B to get it done quick and easy... Looks like it's always the same lady managing this inside business.
So yes, corruption exists in Jomtien Immigration too. ????

I think they can be legal...the bike and sidecar has to be registered in the green book from first registration as a "combo unit"
Really? I doubt that very much, first time I heard this.
I think Johng is right. Must buy together bike+sidecar new to be legal.
I got same information from a seller in Pattaya; I you want to add a sidecar to your own bike, it will not be legal. It's not a problem if you are a Thai, but for us farangs...

What science backs a 7-day quarantine? //
Why France has reduced quarantine to 7 days
Quote...
Benjamin Davido, an infectologist at Raymond-Poincaré hospital in Paris, told France 2 that "most of the contamination occurs in the first five days".
...
Health minister Olivier Véran told France Inter on Tuesday that we are “more contagious in the first five days following the appearance of symptoms or testing positive. After, this contagiousness decreases in a very significant way,” he said.
“Beyond a week, the contagiousness remains but it is very weak,” he said, adding that this is the reason the government was considering reducing the quarantine period.

Furthermore what's the point of quarantine if you do it for 7 days. We already know due the the incubation time you need at least 14 days. You might aswell not quarantine since it will spread guaranteed within a 7 day window.
2 hours ago, JTXR said:Reduce the quarantine from 14 to 7 days? So, the basic biology of the virus has changed, then?
No, it's what doctors thought but now that they know the virus better they have say that 7 days was enough for a Covid-19 quarantaine.
Thailand is certainly not the only country to reduce from 14 to 7. (Mine, France, already reduced it to 7 too), and soon all will go to 7 days only.

Wrong, most IO extend from the day you apply, including pattaya.
It never happened to me in +15 years...
and I don't remember any friend talking about that either.
PS: But maybe this statement was about special Covid extensions only? In which case I can't comment on. I don't know.

There is no gamble. You wait as long as possible. No amnesty extension, than you apply for your 60 days or 30 day extension. Since most IO let it run from the date you apply, you actually win days.
Uh? I would say the opposite: IOs who do this way must be rare exceptions.
IMHO most IOs do it the correct way and so add days from the end of your current authorisation of stay (or extension).

Title is "Thailand's sex workers petition to decriminalise prostitution"
and picture is a photo of a East European dancer (aka "Russian dancer")
near the "Russian bar" XO Club, on Pattaya Walking Street.
Russian dancers clearly have nothing to do with the article...

ppm of what ???
Nothing wrong to get drinkable water with a ppm of 270 if it's about alcanility by example. Health norme is something around 40 to 400.
Drinking nearly distilled water with ppm near zero is probably worse for your health.
Could be good to read the composition shown on the bottle...

Maybe you should first ask your management about a net.
They are usually ugly and then forbidden in many condos.
(You don't have rights to change the outside aspect of the building)

And once the pandemic is over, will they revoke your PR. After the 97 crash, some condos were allowed 100% Foreign ownership, only for that being revoked at a later date....hence a Foreigner selling their "Foreign" condo, could only sell to a Thai or company.
Fully false information. Condos bought "over quota" in this 4 years period keep their foreign ownership right as long as they are owned/sold/bought by foreigners.
I should know. I bought and sold 2 such condos in foreign name/quota, in Center Condo Pattaya with a current foreign quota still about 60% (and then over 49%)

// If it's going to be a chartered flight, then a single Boeing 777 typically holds up to 400 passengers, so a single flight will take up a whole week's allocation of people with the new visas. To reach the 1,200 target they will need three or four flights a month, which in effect will imply that people from only three or four different countries will be allowed to come here each month, which sounds extremely limiting. //
These chartered flight could also be those already used to repatriate Thai citizen. If 400 = 320 Thai + 80 foreigners, you may have 15 flights a month for foreigners, so theoretically up to 15 countries.
Linked question is to know if someone from a "high infected" country will be able to go take a flight in a "low infected" country...

What's the point to compare the highest price for farangs to the lowest for Thai?
What about the reverse?

I would imagine that most of those who die in hospital would be here on retirement, so, there is notionally 800,000 to be recovered right there, and possibly a house or condo too. //
4 hours ago, Oldie said:Many old retired expats can't get a health insurance. So better to increase for uninsured people the 800.000 Baht deposit amount. //
When will some TV members stop to talk about these 800'000B as if it was a mandatory deposit?
It's only one of methods to get a yearly extension. I would bet most retires don't use this method; they prefer to keep their money in their home country.
I am very unsure that the Immigration Officer at the entrance can know which method you used, so it must not be possible to take this in account as "support" while in Thailand.

Why funny ??
I will not pretend to know how people manage their money in other countries, but in mine (France) people usually keep on their current account only the money needed for the month, and it's far to be near 15'000 € !... but more like 2-3'000 €.
Same people keep their savings on other types of accounts, with better interest rate and less risks (no direct access or access by card), but thanks to Internet this money can easily be transferred between these accounts when needed.
What would be the point to keep 15'000 $/€ on a current account?
