Something doesn’t sound quite right about this story. The WHO has no remit or authority to put legal barriers in place to require governments to authorise purchases of vaccine - only national governments can put these requirements in place for exports or for authorising use domestically.

So:
Wave 2 Samut Songkran mainly migrant workers - fence them in dormitories with barbed wire to stop spread.
Wave 3 Bangkok Hi/So middle class entertainment venues - send them to the islands to party....

Imagine being on your 14th day mingling with other guests in your plague hotel and someone else there tests positive. Unless the population already has strong vacination coverage you aren't going to be going to far.
Until someone gives Mr 30% in charge of the Health Ministry a kick up the <deleted> this is a none starter.

thank you thai government for your nationalism and xenophobia
they will also have to redo the ones from 2021 as well assuming it is good for a year.- 3

Its a non-starter as an idea.
Thailand has a policy of zero cases rather than a controlled number and to change that would be a massive political decision that this govt would never take.
the vaccines themselves are not 100% so it would be inevitable that when you get a significant number of visitors to make a difference and be economically viable, ie more than a couple of planeloads, the virus would get in and be detected in a tourism area - think Bangkok, Koh Samui, Phuket, Pattaya. Lockdown would quickly follow since limited local vaccination leading to <deleted> off tourists , cancelled flights and more chaos.

3 hours ago, impulse said:I read the same article and came away noting that there has been no direct word from AZ. Just the Bangkok Herald's theory that it's the human rights and the charges against issue is the reason for reconsidering.
AstraZeneca executives were said to be unhappy that, on Wednesday, the Digital Economy and Society Ministry filed lese majeste charges against Progressive Movement leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit.
"Were said to be unhappy" doesn't sound like a quote on the record.
I can't help but wonder if the Herald is trying to use the public fear of Covid to pressure the gub'ment to drop the charges against Thanathorn, while the real reason for reconsidering is what AZ learned from watching what happened to Rolls Royce.
Anyone know the connection (if any) between the Herald and Thanathorn? I also noticed the link to the original Matichon article is no longer available... 404 error.
I'm not claiming to know the answer. Just wanted to start a discussion because I'm curious...
not sure about Bangkok Herald but they are quoting Matichon where a large stake is held by Thanathorn’s family.

Bit limited in my sympathy for this guy since, as he says, the Oz govt had arranged a flight for him but he didn’t get on at last minute.

Why would farmers be effected - just because people are not visiting restaurants does not mean they are not eating

Not me who make them sound like a waste of time, the lady at the DLT does. She says they are no proof of address
To be fair, sounds like she said she couldn't accept it because it was more than 2 years old. I had a similar problem getting a pink card since my yellow book was more than 2 years old - they made me go to the local office to get letter to say details were up to date. This was when Nongprue could do yellow books but pink cards still had to be done at Banglamung.

Was a few years back now but when i did mine i did not need 'official' notorisation as my details were on marriage cert but did need copy and translation (done locally) of birth certificate as they needed my parents details.

Surprised that they didn’t get ‘amulets’ as the top answer.
i would much rather get advice on best ways to mitigate risk in a pandemic from qualified health professionals and experts in the field rather than a facebook poll.

And France?
Maybe so but the vague ideas i am seeing from Farage and his ilk seem to be looking at a bit more than a month. Talk of acheiving herd immunity and vaccines are a long way off especially if you isolate the vunerable and confine as many as 40% of the population -if your target is 60% minimum for herd immunity then the maths is not good.
There is always the plan of that other right wing blowhard Katy Hopkins of the 'bring out your old' ice cream mobile euthanasia vans to deal with the problem.

Not sure has thought this through. Protecting the vunerable so the rest of us can get on with their lives esse
ntially means locking up pensioners so i hope they also restrict their internet access so we don't have to put up with listening to his support base 'celebrating' their incarceration.

I suspect if these reviews were to be updated and/or removed, and perhaps an agreement to not go to anymore hotel/restaurants owned by the same entity, then the suit would be settled/dropped instantly.
Kind of sad that it took a lawsuit for the offender to respond to the hotel's request for comment.
Barrow also put a response from the reviewer up to the resorts statement but I assume before this story was posted.- 4

How do TripAdvisor reviews work as the ‘guest’ claims that his first review with the human slavery allegation was never published yet the resort have a screenshot of it in their statement - do hotels get to vet reviews before publication?

The reality of the situation is as much political as it is a health issue for Thailand. They have done well/been lucky so far in apparently keeping this virus out even though it is clearly here as someone caught it who hadn’t been out of the country.
For the government to ‘open the borders’ they would effectively be changing the strategy from a ‘keep it out’ one to a ‘let it in’ one and would end up being blamed for every death that could be associated with it - something that with the current protests and political friction would be the end of them.

Curious to know how many people who are registered and paying income tax are driving around in cars that are over 15 years old.

She makes fridges for the company she took over from her mother who had to come back and help out when it got into trouble a few years after she took over and has always worked for the family so the impression given that she is some self-made business woman is a bit wide of the mark.
Apart from the stint in govt she has always worked in family businesses since she started off in sales at MBK which was set up by her grandparents whose original business was Mah Boonkrong Rice/Patum Rice Mill with the extended family owning many businesses and hotels throughout Thailand.
Interesting that the article is written by Nad Bunnag from another well established family with huge influence behind the scenes.
