  1. Yeah, there have been a few scare articles like this. Just turn it on when you need it, off when you don't wink.png

When I'm using it, there's not a lot of bandwidth left for them to borrow tongue.png

After using Hola for a year or so, I read about some of the stuff they are doing. I saw a CSS entry on one website that seemed to set Hola ads. So I removed it from Chrome.

After signing up for Netflix I tried Hola again. When watching one movie (PC connected to 48" Ultra LG TV), I saw significant degrading in the resolution. So I removed it immediately.

That bandwidth you think Hola are not borrowing ....

But, as Thais say, "Up to you."

  2. Again just across the border in Arkansas not in Tennessee. Toll-free bridge. large community of interest to the OP in Memphis TN.

For those not familiar with the geography, Memphis is an old-line Mississippi River town and Arkansas state is just on the other side of the river. West Memphis is in Arkansas. ... and again Memphis is, well, Memphis.

Memphis is a great town. Fedex, Blues, awesome oak trees and a daily parade of ducks. ;)

  3. Internet service stopped yesterday afternoon .. red led on the router. So I told the wife to call.

Big construction doings near our house.

3BB tech called. PEA had to move a number of poles. Might be as long a 5 days to wait for new poles and to string the fiber.

3BB guy called today -- will try to do some rerouting.

    Service back early afternoon.

    Thanks, 3BB!!biggrin.png

  4. Don't worry guys. Just took a rental in Khon kaen :-)

Welcome! Immigration office here is tops, IMHO.

You must be joking. They asked me for 1000 Baht to enable me to do my next 90 day report by post!!

When I said I would do on the net they said that was broken and wouldn't be fixed anytime soon which was a lie.

18 years in Bangkok never had a problem. First time in KK I get one.

I can only relate my own experiences. Last renewal, 20 minutes.

Last 90-day report took my wife about 30 minutes because the officer was apparently explaining the numerous visa options to a European gent who couldn't decide if he wanted to marry his gf. biggrin.png

  5. Depends on so many factors.

    - Can you find a dwelling you like in the area you like?

    - Do you have a "real" family situation?

    - Are you content to stay in one location for an extended time?

I rented for most of my 19 years here in Thailand. I have lived in 9 different locations; bought 2 times and sold both to make a profit.

Last year we built exactly what we wanted. When I pass from this life I will do so knowing my dear wife/best friend will be left with a comfortable home.

  6. maybe just me but are you all making an assumption that the teacher who made the complaint is not a muslim ? I would have thought in that part of the country the teacher is very likely to infact be a muslim

    In Irving, Texas????????? whistling.gif

what I meant was muslim attending muslim school - not unusual

"MacArthur High School is a public high school in Irving, Texas. It is named for the American General of the Army Douglas MacArthur."

  7. I did some shopping at the Home Hub in Udon Thani on Saturday morning on my drive from Laos. No English was understood when I asked questions, but they had a fine selection in many departments. The Cotto display of shower units did not indicate if in stock or special order. It might have something to do with if the store put up the display or a company hired by the manufacturer put up the display in a store if you see the "special order' sticker. Wall tiles and floor tiles often do not indicate that special order status even if only one box is in the store. I was looking at a VRH shower display with a Stiebel Eltron water heater and a PC from Mazuma did his best to show me a completely different item he represented. In most any modern builders merchants a good 30% of the floor staff are not actual employees of the store. They are paid by various companies to represent a particular brand. You could be looking at a Teka oven and a Hafele PC walks up and suggests Hafele is made in Germany. The selection of higher end Cotto toilets was amazing and I wondered if they really had any 39,000 baht toilets in stock. Or if they really had any 38,000 baht Teka exhaust fans in stock. I believe the OP has many options in Udon Thani for building materials and it must vary from store to store if they put a "special order" sticker on a display.

We bought most of the fixtures, tile, cabinets, etc from Home Hub in Khon Kaen. Service is more personal and prices are just as good/better than most of the bigger-box stores. Only (small) problem is the distance from our house.

  8. Rove beetle?

    Not likely.

I got one or more of those nasty little ******** in my boots while mowing the lawn once. Long story short, I had huge blisters down to the flesh -- pretty much 3rd degree burns on my foot and calf.
