The beauty of using an agent.
grain replied to JeffersLos's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
For about 10 years when I lived in Pattaya I used Darren at KeyVisa, everything was kosher, I had the 800K Bt in the bank, I just couldn't be bothered doing it myself, it was easier to pay someone. Then I moved to Korat and don't know if there are agents here, so the past few years I do it myself. It's been very easy actually. I do pop in and see them a week or so beforehand to find out exactly what they require, I roll up in the morning on the day with everything prepared, it usually takes about 1 hour and I'm on my way with 12 months ext + the re-entries for the coming year. Then we go big shopping at Lotus's and Makro. -
I tried Win 11 a few times over the past year or so and never liked it at all and always quickly reverted back to Win 10. However, just yesterday I got offered a new update to Win 11 so gave it a try and I'm surprised how much better it is, everything is much faster, so now it's a keeper for me.

So the arrival forms are now back
grain replied to grain's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
OK, thanks I wasn't aware of that. So my post is useless. Maybe a mod can delete it. -
I flew into DM a month ago and no arrival forms, but yesterday I entered at Friendship Bridge NK and they issued the arrival forms. I also had a strange exchange with a female Imm officer there, she seemed like a nasty one who was in a bad mood. I have a retirement ext + re-entry visa, and she asked me rather sternly where I planned to go now. I was baffled as 40 years of entering Thailand at various points I've never been asked this. So I told her I'm stopping the night in a NK hotel and tomorrow I'll go to Pak Thong Chai. So she immediately asks me why I'm going to PTC. I said I live in PTC, I'm registered at Korat Imm, and asked her can't she see all that on her computer. Anyway, that was that and off I went. But it seemed strange to me as I always thought I could go anywhere I bloody well pleased in Thailand.

Parking at Nong Khai, near border
grain replied to FriendlyFarang's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I'm currently in Laos on holiday, we left our car in a carpark close to the immigration center on Monday morning, it's in a secured compound, with 24 hour attendance, 100Bt per day. If coming from Nong Khai city when you reach the bridge/border area, you get to a T-junction, the Imm is to your right and the carpark is on the corner left hand side. It's very easy to find. There may be other carparks as well, I only found this one. -
Going back to Savannakhet.
grain replied to Benjamin H's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes, so avoid Fridays unless you want a weekend in Savan. A good mate of mine lives in Savan and his morning walks take him past the Thai Consulate, he says there are long lines...up to 150 people, daily. He's sent me photos of the lines of people waiting to enter. So be prepared for this. -
Seems very suspect to me. I guess it would be possible to slit one's own throat but I imagine it's extremely difficult, and why? If one wants to top oneself it's easy enough to buy a bunch of sedatives and drift off to a peaceful, painless death. Slashing wrists would be far easier to do than the throat. Anyway, RIP these 2 men, who were more than likely murdered.

HelloFresh Drops Thai Coconut Milk After Peta’s Monkey Labour Drive
grain replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"were forced to spend long hours climbing trees and picking coconut." That's what monkeys do...they climb trees and pick things. -
Redmi Note, excellent and very affordable. I had the Note 7, cost me 6000Bt, now I have the Note 10, got that last year for 6000Bt. I highly recommend looking at Xiaomi Redmi. I also have a Xiaomi laptop I ordered from China last year. Very good products and good prices.

We signed up yesterday, as it turns out they were offering a promotion on the day. 1GB/300 + a bunch of TV channels (several in English) for 420Bt a month X 24 months. They said there's a wait of 2 weeks before installation, but that's no problem as we're going on a 2 week holiday to Nong Khai and Lao. So after we return they'll do the install.

I want to go to VTE next week, has anyone recently (in last couple of months) left their car in a car park at Friendship Bridge Nong Khai? If so what is the current daily fee for a ute? and any other info much appreciated.

I've since heard back from a good friend who lives in Pattaya and has 3BB, no restrictions whatsoever, he's constantly installing new APKs and watching TV channels from all around the world.
-
Can any of you guys who have 3BB and smart TVs verify that you can still install APKs like RedBox TV or tubi and so forth, and watch UK, USA, Aust TV channels and movie channels?

Fistfight in Pattaya Leaves Australian Tourist With Head Injuries
grain replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Best advice is do not drink in the same bars as Thai men. Thai men drinking and foreign/tourist men drinking do not mix well at all. When I lived in Pattaya I never drank in any bar that had Thai men drinking. I'd drink in bars around Pattaya that were expat hangouts. I don't think there were even Thai men working in them, the entire staff would be women. Steer clear of Thai men, especially when they're drinking. -
OK thanks, good info and I'll check into this further when we talk with the 3BB company.

Cheers transam, my laptop will stay connected to my smartphone via its DTAC sim, that works fine, ditto wife who has her own DTAC sim purely for data. The 3 BB will be solely for the smart TV.
-
OK thanks, I'm getting a clearer picture now. Before I sign the deal with 3BB I'll check about which router they'll supply me. However, I'm not sure this is going to be a problem. I only want 3BB for the TV. My laptop is fine tethered to my smartphone with its unlimited DTAC sim. My smart TV is fairly new, we bought it about 2 years ago from Makro, it's in the bedroom, and the 3 BB router will also go in the bedroom. My wife also has a DTAC 1 year unlimited sim in her phone, so she won't need to connect to the 3 BB either. So if the 3 BB wifi barely covers the house that wouldn't matter, it's just for the TV.
-
I don't understand. If I sign up with 3BB don't they come and install everything and get me up and running ok? Are you suggesting that I should purchase my own 3BB router?
-
my smart TV is TCL, android OS
-
Thanks, that's a good tip, that would be nearly 700Bt discount, well worth getting.
-
OK thanks I'll go for the 1gb/500 deal, it's only slightly more expensive.

So how do I go about doing that research?
