Unreal, you arrive at a tourist mecca with a tourist visa, you want to come in and spend your money and they refuse you entry. Imagine running a business along those lines. You walk into a pub and the doorman stops you and asks what you're doing. You reply you want to come in and have dinner and have a few beers. The doorman says you're coming too often, you were in there having dinner and boozing your head off last week, and he knows you were in there eating and drinking a couple of weeks before that.

change marriage visa after divorce
grain replied to tingtong's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Agree, I know a few guys who's marriages have broken down but they stay on good friendly terms with their ex wives who help them with the annual visa renewals. Best option here is to keep on with the marriage visa for 3 more years then get on the retirement ext. -

Yep, and the Thai D/L won't get you the Thai price at Phi Mai historical park. I tried it and no. -
Got my yellow book and ID card today
grain replied to stubuzz's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
This is the one that prevents me from getting these things. When I asked a few months ago at my local amphur I was told to get married then come back. And that ain't about to happen. -

actually to quote Aretha Franklin it's the "Best damn chicken" (in Thailand) I lived in HatYai for several years and that Muslim fried chicken is damn good.

I'm same age as you, I've lived in Thailand a long time and over the years have rode MCs all over the place, but when I got into my 70s I decided it's time to cease. Even a minor accident is bad news for a person in their 70s and could result in spending their remaining years disabled. So it's 4 wheels and 2 feet for me now.

Same story with me at Korat, everything goes fast and smooth. Never had anything even resembling a problem with them. -

retirement extension renewal possible ?
grain replied to Barry864's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
As DrJack54 told you, you'll have to start all over again as you're Retirement ext will have expired. However, I wouldn't be concerned about "the whole process of collecting documents, photocopies etc" because you have to do that every year when you renew. I just renewed mine last week and the amount of docs/photocopies is crazy. -
Re beer intake: I'm in my mid-70s, I have some rules for drinking. Never start before 6pm. Don't drink every night, always alternate - 1 night on, next night off. About twice a year I have a whole week off, just to give my body a rest.

Very fast and easy retirement ext at Korat today.
grain replied to grain's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I keep that money in that account for about 15 years now, all I take out is I scoop off the interest once a year, but the balance never drops below 800K. That money is solely for visa. I see on this forum people talking about scratching around every year trying to get the 400K or 800K together. That would drive me nuts year after year. I leave the amount in the bank. -

I've got no idea how long they want to see the money has been in the account for, I keep that 800K in that account year after year, solely for annual visa renewal. So 2 months, 3 months, 12 months, makes no difference to me. I just gave that little slip of paper to the girl at the counter, and accepted what they gave me. -

I've been here a long time mate, I've learned to smile and be happy and polite and give them what they ask for, not to start splitting hairs and arguing the toss about immigration laws with them. You only get one chance with Thais, piss them off and you've had it, these people (like officials in every country) can make things very difficult if they want to. -

Don't quite understand your logic on this. I've had money in this particular Thai bank account for about 20 years now. I have total control, it's my money, it earns interest, I have access - if needed I can withdraw the lot in minutes. -

Nothing to do with great satisfaction mate, I'm just giving a detailed account, hopefully passing on useful information, that's one of the main purposes of this forum. BTW: I have used a few visa agents in the past. When I lived in Pattaya I used to pay Darren 12000 Bt and he'd take 2-3 days, I now do it myself for half the cost in just over 1 hour. And I have no problem with the 800K in a Thai bank. That money stays there year after year, it's to satisfy the Imm requirement, but it's also there in case of any sudden emergencies. -

Yes, ongoing, been living in Thailand for decades. I have no idea why I was told to update that registered address receipt that's stapled into my PP, it's never been requested before. I just do what they tell me. It might be because I left the country for a few days (had a short holiday in Laos 3 months ago) I don't know and don't question them. The last 90-day I did was a month ago and they dated it to July 31, which is when my ret' ext would expire, so yesterday they did a new 90 day for me, to save me from coming back in 3 weeks. They are very nice and helpful at Korat Imm. -

Korat Imm gave me a very small slip of paper to give to the bank informing them what they required, it was in Thai, and I didn't pay any attention to it. I just handed it to the gal at the bank. They updated my bank book and prepared 2 letters. I didn't even look at them, just handed them over to Imm. -
My annual retirement ext expires 31st July. A week ago I dropped by Korat Imm to get the forms and check on all the current requirements. So over the past week I gathered all the required docs and filled in the forms at home. This morning at 8:25 I was standing outside my bank. Doors opened at 8:30 and I up the stairs to get my bank account statements. At 8:50 I had the necessary bank statements and then went straight to Imm. The girl at the outside counter check all my stuff. I did need to update my registered address doc, so went to that office, then at 9:30 I went straight into the office for visa renewals. Right on 9:45 I was out of there with a new ext up to July 31, 2024, a multi re-entry stamp, and they did my 90 days for me, so 3 months until I need to do anything again. So from the time I walked into the bank to get my statements to the time I walked out of the Korat Imm office with all my business finished = 1 hour 15 minutes. Cost 5700 + 200 for bank statements = 5900 Bt.

Insect Warning.....Kill them, Kill them........NOW
grain replied to redwood1's topic in General Topics
We've currently got some of those maeng wee in our house, those little black flying ones that dive into your face and try go up your nose. Those are the worse bugs in Thailand, hard to kill, the electric tennis racquet won't kill them, they're so small they fly right through those things. -
So true, I getting the feeling most Thais would rather be roasted over hot coals than admit they got something wrong. I remember once talking with a Thai woman and I said something that contradicted something I'd said a few months earlier, and she pulled me up. She said before you said blah-blah-blah and now you're saying dah-dah-dah. And I looked at her and said...well I was wrong, I've now changed my opinion. She was sort of gob smacked. So I said to her...look you're allowed to be wrong, there's nothing wrong in being wrong, it's perfectly OK to realize you're wrong and change your mind about something. But she was kind of speechless about this.
