  1. Likely with his DL, passport etc and much else that he's maintained in the UK - or is he as bereft of guile as you suggest? If he's non-UK resident and the only address that he can use is a relative's because he has no base there, his DL and passport (how exactly does a PP prove where he lives) will not help after he is found to be not on the electoral roll after credit checks. "Much else"? He didn't suggest that he had all that "much else", just the opposite, in fact. The "new" bank will also likely enquire why his account with Santander was closed/closing. Banks, these days, are wise to all the "guile" responses from people who shouldn't have UK bank accounts.
  2. Threads have titles. My apologies, I did overlook that. It's a pity your title didn't also include that it was a ridiculous claim based on the lack of any evidence that you provided!
  3. Spot on, again, Wise offers no protection whatsoever to depositors by regulation, only its promise to "safeguard" customers' money. " Safeguarding means that we look after your money"...that's it. Reassuring.
  4. No they are not UK branches, those places are not in the UK and are subject to different regulations and offer different protections to their customers.
  5. I was not referring to online shopping, I was referencing purchases made privately and sent to me here using normal Royal Mail and Thailand Post.
  6. You seem to misunderstand. I am merely responding to your posts. No, you were responding to Bangkok Barry, not me, and you showed that you do care by stating your opinion about it that "it isn't the end of the world"!
  7. You're one of the exceptions, then (who voluntarily choose to live in those areas).
  8. How would he prove that he was resident at an address at which he doesn't live? You really think that banks don't do credit and electoral roll checks on new account applications in person and won't ask where he banked previously?
  9. Neither of those apps you provided a link to are currently available in Thailand.
  10. Yes, it's amazing how many posters don't approve of accurate information and then get arsy when correct information is posted...so perhaps it's them causing the trouble?
  11. Where? There's hundreds of BigCs.
  12. So you think he should give up at the first bump in the road. Your advice is poor and unhelpful. My comments are accurate. What are your suggestions that contradict my comments?
  13. OH YES IT IS! You get an international (off-shore, but UK bank sort code) account Offshore accounts are not UK bank accounts that are being discussed here that could replace his Santander account. If he wants an offshore account and meets those banks requirements your suggestion is ideal.
  14. Did you consider that claiming that Royal Mail post from UK to Thailand takes months is a bit ridiculous? I regularly get items bought from UK sellers sent here and UK to Bangkok usually takes about five days.
  15. Normal mail from UK using Royal Mail does not, normally, take months to get to Thailand, it takes a few days...it's all put on a 'kin plane!
  16. You were given incorrect information, foreigners are entitled to prizes also. For the existing lottery (not necessarily the new L6) winnings over B20,000 have to be claimed from the lottery office and are paid by check or transfer into a Thai bank account.
  17. I think so - If you are a resident Anyone can buy GLO tickets and collect winnings, nationality or reason for/length of stay here is irrelevant.
  18. Huh? Post from the UK to Thailand normally takes a few days at the most. Sounds as though you're making excuses for not fitting the bank's UK-resident requirements!
  19. Don't waste your time looking for a new bank if you're not a UK resident and cannot provide verifiable UK residential details/phone number, it is not possible from Thailand.
  20. Your issue with Santander is not comparable to Farage's, the accounts were closed for very different reasons. You are not entitled to a UK bank account if you're not a UK resident - Farage is.
  21. Does it matter, are you a tax inspector? What has such an off-topic question got to do with you, anyway?
