  1. You're right, absolute poppycock from your first word to the last.
  2. In that case the whole Thailand must be "out in the sticks". Why?
  3. Where did you pull that statistic from and are there more Thais in debt than any other nations citizens?
  4. GSB Customer service can. 02 299 8000. I'd guess at a cash deposit if I had to, though.
  5. He wasn't doing it in Asia! He was stupid enough to overstay in Thailand, which was his downfall.
  6. It didn't say that he had made £7m, it said that he had caused damages of that amount.
  7. You mean in the same room or house? Why wouldn't that be ok?
  8. I see that our self-appointed resident register checker is here. Do you hand out the milk, too?
  9. It is not illegal for a foreigner to own that type of business but the legality of it sort of pales into insignificance in the circumstance, don't you think?

  13. Maybe their thinking is that not all pensioners use email, while they all can use the mail
  14. Correct, but obviously you would need a UK address. ...and a UK bank to receive it, well, at least not a Thai bank raising red flags,
  15. They were not intervening in any legal preceding--he had been told he could go--they (embassy) just had to arrange the plane seat. And arranging his travel was exactly what they did. Until that was completed he could not go anywhere.
  16. They CAN…..but do not. The United States has MASSIVE arm-twisting ability. So does the UK. They choose to do nothing. They do not represent their citizens. Embassies are not there to Diplomatically twist arms to get idiots out of jail and they would never do what you seem to think that they can do for the type of cases that are reported here. Embassies are not there to "represent" their nationals in legal situations, that is a lawyer's job, Consular staff are there to protect their nationals' interests as much as their jurisdiction permits and that is what they do.
  17. why should they They shouldn't because they can't. I, clearly, did not suggest that they should.
