  1. What is illegal about a foreigner owning a business here?
  2. All packages retained for duty/VAT in Bangkok are held at the local post offices that cover the delivery area of the addressee.
  3. Most of us don't die in Bangkok, Bangkok is not a juggernaut of noise and the heat is, to all intents and purposes, no worse than Thailand's heat anywhere else. You seem to assume that he will be walking everywhere...why?
  4. But he said, specifically, that he's coming to Bangkok to see things in Bangkok, he didn't mention a need for cheap rooms or beaches.
  5. What makes you think that you have to pay the tax in person at the bank? Have you asked the bank for the KTB account details for the payment? If the JP won't pay it on your behalf, just transfer the amount from your BBL account, you don't need a KTB account to credit a third party KTB account. Or wait until you're back in Thailand.
  6. What will not? You're confused. I know the current process for items over 1500 - you go to the Mail Center to pay your duty/VAT. I know the existing process also, items are held at the local post office for my delivery area in Bangkok, not a "Mail Centre", whatever that is.
  7. Isn't it odd that if I dispute something, or express a differing opinion, it is always categorised as "being argumentative"? Are we all supposed to have the same view here and agree with all the posts even when so many are, clearly, inaccurate or nonsense?
  8. No, it will not, the policy already exists for B1500+ items, and items are held, and charges paid, at the local post offices for the delivery area of the addressee.
  9. "RIDICULOUS !!!!" Yes, you are being ridiculous. Which taxes have been "doubled or more" and on which products?
  10. Most imports in any country where duty, etc. is due work on a CIF basis, it it not peculiar to Thailand. I'd love to see the breakdown of your alleged "120% duty/fees" on that item and what the item was. Your claim doesn't sound credible.
  11. The Customs Dept. decides on the value of anything imported on which duty/VAT is due, doesn't matter where it comes from, whether it is a gift or whether there's a receipt.
  12. How can this VAT change possibly be designed to "hit tourists and foreigners" as your comment suggests you believe ("This won't be the last", "What's next? Hit tourists and foreigners...")?
  13. Good to see you coming around at last, albeit a little slowly.
  14. Because that was his, and his team's, prerogative. Not sure what point you are trying to make with that question, defendants' not testifying is a perfectly normal and common practice.
  15. Wrong. First, it's pure speculation on your part his felony convictions (34) will be overturned. Elsewhere, he is a convicted sex offender (civil case) He is a convicted charity fraudster and is barred from starting a charity, as are his children He is a convicted bank fraudster (civil) He is a convicted insurance fraudster (civil) Yesterday's felony convictions involved fraud, too, so he is owner of lots of fraud convictions, civil and now criminal. Yes, my comment regarding the case being overturned is, very obviously, speculation, but it will happenbut the rest of your comment is wrong... Civil cases are not convictions. Trump was not convicted of anything in his Foundation case, he was just ordered to pay restitution. He has not been convicted of bank fraud. He has not been convicted of insurance fraud.
  16. Wow you should be on Trumps legal team with a conviction like that. Pun intended. They'll manage fine without me, don't you worry about that.
  17. Because the amount changes constantly due to exchange rate fluctuations.
  18. A clear racist comment, that would get you in trouble in the UK. ** removed** an idiom is not a racist comment. Perhaps, but this is a news thread, not the pub.
  19. Renting out vans is not an offence, and since when do police "certify companies"?
