The first guy tried to keep my deposit and balance and get me to pay for a new card.
The second guy refunded my deposit and balance, but charged me for a new card! I just can’t win – had no choice but to buy it, my card expired and would not work anymore (five years old).
To be fair, the website says:
Existing BTS SmartPass cardholders can replace their existing passes with a new Rabbit card free of charge [...] SmartPasses to be replaced should still be within 5 Year Card Life validitySo he refunded the deposit (what is it, 30 Baht?) AND your balance of your *expired* SmartPass and charged 50 Baht for the Rabbit card which makes the effective costs of the new card 20 Baht. That's not that bad, is it?
U r miss-informed. The THH30 on the old card, is an issue fee, not a deposit = it's lost.
The miss-advertisement of the free new Rabbit Card chooses not to be 100% honest
Currently I top up 25 trips 575 Baht (23 Baht per trip)
When I exchange for my ‘free’ Rabbit card, the cost will be 575+50 (deposit) +100 (for McDonalds or BTS extension or .... no choice, must do)
So my free exchange costs 50+100
As usually marketing is marketing - Personally I'd prefer honesty over a non 'free' exchange. Sadly a significant number of people no longer believe in ‘principle over value’ and will bemoan it away as ‘only’ being €4.

Does that membership make the booze cheaper?
Take a look at king power website -- yes discounts but am sure there's plenty of terms&conditions
-
I have travelled this route a few times on the first occasion I was allowed to take my Duy Frees through security on transfer but also noticed that the Duty Free Gin I was carrying from BKK was actually cheaper there. Transferring means you have to walk past the duty free shops so even if a short transfer time you will be able to purchase booze there.
thanks but I'm considering making use of the King Power Member's lounge. The annual fee is THB500 and u get a THB500 voucher in return which seems to suggest membership is actually free.

Etihad –Abu Dhabi Stopover – Customs & Liquids
I’m travelling from Bangkok to Europe with Etihad, which necessitates a change of planes at Abu Dhabi. Anyone know if I will have issues with Duty Free liquids purchased at Bangkok?
Thanks

So yours is a 30 Day Smart Pass? Yesterday my son was asked to pay a THB50 deposit when he tried to exchange his 30 Day Smart Pass for a new Rabbit Card - You sure u didn't have to pay a new deposit?

Just read about a new but limited payment card that might be helpful for TV members who cant open a bank account in Thailand
The Tourism Authority of Thailand and Krung Thai Bank last week launched the "Miracle Thailand" debit card for foreigners.
The aim is to promote the Miracle Thailand Year campaign and to offer more convenient way of spending among visitors, said TAT Governor Suraphon Svetasreni.
The card holder does not require to have a passbook with Krung Thai Bank. There is no annual fee, he said, adding that the debit card can also boost spending because visitors who are afraid of credit card fraud have an alternative of safety payment.
The Miracle Thailand card is offered at all branches of Krung Thai Bank, including its currency exchange booths and the booth of the Association of Thai Travel Agents at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The price is 100 baht, which includes a package of Krungthai Panich Insurance covering seven-day personal accident insurance for up to 10,000 baht for outpatient treatment, a maximum of 500,000 baht for inpatient treatment, and life insurance of one million baht. The card holder can top up the amount in the debit card to the maximum value of 30,000 baht at any branch of Krung Thai Bank and its nationwide currency exchange booths.
The Miracle Thailand card also offers 5%-90% discounts for card holders when shopping at The Mall, Emporium, Siam Paragon, Paradise Park, MBK Center, King Power Duty Free, Siam Park or for services at Siam Niramit and Safari World.
According to Krung Thai Bank, the card holder can also buy goods or withdraw cash from ATMs any where in Thailand without any charges.

When u said 'I just traded my BTS SmartPass valued stored card for a Rabbit card (quick swap of cards at a BTS station window)', are u sure that’s 100% right? My understanding is that it’s not a swap, rather u loose the deposit on your current BTS card and need to pay a new deposit THB50 for the Rabbitcard.
So was it a quick swap or did u need to pay a new deposit?
Thanks

fyi - Pradipat Road has over the last two years become a 'hub' for forex -- At the moment there’s circa 20 bureaux -- The rates are comparable with Super-rich and the service is polite -- For those of us who have been in Thailand for a while will be pleasantly surprised (maybe even shocked) that my change ought to have been THB207.25, but I was handed THB208 (by Thai standards this is most unusual)
Pradipat Road is close to Saphan Khwai BTS Station -- U exit towards Ari (Siam) and take the first right onto Pradipat Road -- The Bureaus begin 100 metres down on the r.h.s

Not working for me.. It says ไม่ว่าง (not available) for any trip from Chiang Mai to Lampang, no matter the date I fill in.
EDIT: Weird.. if I switch to English it does say "Select" but I cannot click it.
Either way I think it's safer to visit the station.
I've book trice BKK to Udon and once Ubon to BKK -- perhaps at this moment the system is open for 'longer' journeys --
"Weird.. if I switch to English it does say "Select" but I cannot click it." -- if u hover over the "select" it says "Sold Out" and if u change the journey options from CM to BKK, the seats are available -- early stages of a roll out, perhaps

I did try to search on TV before posting but wasnt able to find a recent posting -- Anyone recently got a double entry here? Irish passport with 4 years of Thai visas - Thanks

fyi - You can now book most trains on line at http://www.thairailticket.com/esrt/Default.aspx
Theres a THB20 charge plus 3% cc charge but at least u dont have to go to the station.
