  1. What rights exactly do you want?

The right to buy land? You do realize that if you made it legal for farang to own land the prices would skyrocket.

depends on where the land is... i don't see the price of grazing pastures for water buffalo in north east thailand going up much because a farang can buy a rai.

  2. no need to worry. we have wonderful diseases such as cancer and AIDS that help to control the population. as the population continues to grow there will be more disease to naturally curb the population. if there isn't then there is a term known as "population bomb" which will doom our species. but personally i have faith in illness and death.

  3. im in the same boat. i'm out of here with hopes to return in the distant future. i havn't left thailand in 2 years (not even a visit to the family). thailand has done a great job at extorting my money and future here hence my desire to escape. i hope things are better when i return.

  4. If you have your own gear I could take you on my boat. We could negotiate a price. Keep in mind that right now the waves are very big and the price of fuel has gone up. With those 2 factors gasoline alone is more than most people are willing to pay (on Koh Phangan anyway... with all the tight ass backpackers).

Just out of interest - I am a regular visitor to Samui - and not into diving, but love boating - what sort of boat do you have?

27ft 200hp speedboat. there is a picture of it here www.island-discovery.com

  5. Briton says Thai woman dumps him after getting his Bt17 million

A 63-year-old Briton called for help from the authorities to force a Thai woman to return his money nearly Bt17 million after she chased him out of her house.

Stephen Jones said he had met the woman in Pattaya in 2001 and decided to sell all of his assets in England and gave the money to her to buy a house and plots of land in Kalasin to live with her.

But the woman chased him out of the house two months ago after she had got all of his money.

He said he became broke and wanted his money back so that he could return to his homeland.

Kalasin chief public prosecutor said the woman could not yet be charged with cheating because the two had got married.

He said the Kalasin public prosecutor office would investigate to see if the assets had been bought with Jones' money or not and would see if Jones had willingly given the assets to the woman.

He said it was possible that Jones could sue the woman for equal divisions of the assets.

  6. if it was just your name and address then what is the worry? that information is freely given out all the time. if there is other info such as passport numbers, credit card or bank details, and other information that should be kept private then you may want to be careful. With certain personal information your identity can be stolen and used to obtain credit cards in your name. Then you might get stuck with a large debt. I'm not sure what they would do with your picture though.

I guess I'm concerned I'll get blamed for something I didn't do. I'm naturally paranoid about this stuff, as in my youth I did plenty to be blamed for and paid the price. I just can't see why someone would take them. On 2nd thought they probably had no clue what they were taking. There weren't any social security numbers or anything. Just name/address and the pics.

with that information maybe they could mail you your pictures back. not much else.

  8. When I am in a 7-11 buying cigarettes, why is it that every time i ask for Marlboro Lights they automatically grab Reds? Does the sound Red and Light really sound that similar to Thai's? And second, how do I say "LIGHT" in Thai.

OW BOOLI MARLBORO (LIGHT) KRAP. MAI OW DANG KRAP

Why don't you just ask for "Malboro see tong"?

    what is "see tong"?

  11. I walked in on my mother in law while she was dressing and got to see the whole show. she doesn't speak a word of english and at that moment all my thai went out the window. later while i was at the temple with the whole family she gave the news to everyone that the farang walked in on her and saw her sagging jugs. i was pretty embarrassed but they all knew it was an accident. my wife helped to lower my embarrassment by saying that her mom didn't care because she was old already. everyone there could sense how bad i felt and kept the snickering to a minimum after the initial outburst of laughter. now i can joke with my wife by saying she should wear very supportive bras so that her tits don't end up like her mom's.

  12. thank you for you advise. my problem is that it is stuck in her head that she need a c-section. tears ago she had a surgery on one of her abdominal area. the doctor at the time said that if she was going to have children that she would need a c-section, but the first doctor that we went to "Bangkok Samui Hospital" recommended natural birth. My wife said that doctor was stupid and actively sought a doctor that would do a c-section. I'm not pleased with her decision and i'm not sure what i can do about it. I only want what is best for my child and my wife, but her idea is does not parallel mine. It is very frustrating.

    mrt,

This additional information puts things in a rather different light. What type of surgery was it that she had in the past? And was the doctor who told her then that in future she would need c-section an obstetrician or just general surgeon?

Without this info I can't advise on the matter.

I don't know the medical term nor do I know much about anatomy. I believe she had one of her ovarian tubes closed off (if that makes sense). All I know is that the top doctor in Samui told her to have a natural birth and my wife with all of her wisdom from high school says that the doctor is stupid. I'm not even fighting her about it anymore because there is no way I can win. If she endangers my child though I will be one upset daddy.

  13. I once borrowed a hammer from a neighbor to build a ladder at the dock where i keep my boat. as luck would have it i dropped the hammer into the sea never to be recovered again. i went out and replaced the hammer. upon returning their now new hammer they were confused about what happened to the old one. i didn't know the word for "sank" in thai so i just told them that their hammer went swimming. they eventually got what i was trying to explain but thought it was pretty a funny image.

  14. just drive on the left side of the road. when you come to an intersection look both ways, then look both ways again. take it slow until you get the hang of it. I think that if I go back to the US i'd have problems driving on the rights side of the road. i'd say it takes about 1-7 days to feel comfortable with it. be careful in the mean time.
