  1. No more MIB raiding baht gambling dens??? :D

Guess Mr T will be building a few casino(s) now. :o

it does sound like a good idea to me. i'm originally from las vegas so my opinion might be a bit biased but gambling can be heavily taxed and regulated. gambling could become thailand's second largest industry behind tourism if they wanted to become a wealthy nation. because tourism is so large here it would be an easy industry to establish. it would also boost tourism from china. may as well have a portion of gambling profits going to the state rather than organized crime. thai's are going to gamble regardless of whether it is legal or not.

  2. it's starting to get HOT again and i was wondering why thailand doesn't sell those window unit air conditioners that they have in the states? i could buy a decent one for $100. but here i have looked at a/c systems and they were like $500 and very elaborate, the ones that hang on the ceiling and have that fan contraption outside. are there any cheaper solutions? i can't find those cooler fans that you put water (or ice) in either, though i did see them in the philppines recently and might be able to get my friend to send me one. but do they work?

i have an evaporative cooler that you can buy off of me. i'm starting to sell up and will need to get rid of most of my stuff pretty soon. you can have it for 1,500 baht. it is one of those that you can put ice and water in. it is really only effective if you are sitting in front of it though. PM me if you want it. I'm in Ban Tai.

  3. Maybe - just maybe - they knew exactly what they were doing, had recognised the type of device that it was, had already dealt with many of this type before, new exactly what kind of "bang" it would make, and had disposed of others in a similar fashion.

Give these guys a bit of credit, please! :D

yeah, the final result looked like it went according to plan. he disposed of the bomb. but if they knew exactly the "bang" it would make then why did the guy get hauled off on a stretcher?

I have a feeling and you know, I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that JBkk was being Ironic :o

    Moss

I figured that already. I'm just curious as to why there isn't some kind of standard operating procedure to deal with situations like this. Thailand gets its fair share of bombs. You would think that they would at least know what a bomb can do. Putting a tire around it and poking it with a stick is comical. What did they think would happen? I'm leaving Thailand soon so my child can get a western education. Logic just doesn't exist in this country and it is really sad.

  5. No not as uncommon as one would think here in the land of smiles(LOS), if memory sever me right just a few months ago two members of the Thai Elite bomb squad were kill on duty, reason they didn't like wearing there protecting gear, true story, check out some back issue of the BKK Post. It happen is South Thailand. :D:D:o

    sum nam na.

again, <deleted> were they thinking? it's a bomb for Christ's sake.

  6. i couldn't stand the soap opera. i the screaming and yelling at each other. i couldn't even finish it. I comedy was pretty good but the thai was fairly fast and i could only pick up part of it even with the subtitles.

i found that thai karaoke with latin characters helps quite a lot for learning thai, except the only time i can enjoy it is when i am already fairly drunk. i also need someone who isn't bored of me saying "what does that mean?" sitting next to me.

  7. Hate to be nasty.. But why is my time to read the thread less valuable than yours ??

    Anyway..

    http://www.talkgold.com/forum/showthread.p...042&page=22

Post 218 lists a Thai consumer protection and 219 say hes has already been to police (work as a group).. I strongly suspect that read the thread backwards will show more and more people taking action.

because you already had found the material that you are referring to. i looked and didn't see it, so rather than spend a long time looking for what you have already seen i thought i'd ask you.

Thanks by the way. no need to be nasty. i never said anything about the value of your time.

  8. Found this video, thought I'd share it with you guys. I was laughing the whole time because it wouldn't be uncommon to see something like this in the LOS. I hope the guy is alright though. What the hel_l were these guys thinking? Its a bit of Thai Logic for you!

  9. Thaksin offered finance role

source: Bkk Post Feb 29 2008

Thaksin Shinawatra was offered a job as economic adviser by Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee yesterday at the same time as the former prime minister vowed to stay out of politics.

The secretary-general of the People Power party (PPP) said he would seek out Mr Thaksin's opinions on economic issues especially the proposed scrapping of the 30% reserve requirement on foreign inflows imposed by the Bank of Thailand in December 2006.

Mr Thaksin has not responded to Mr Surapong's offer. "I have yet to make an appointment [with Mr Thaksin]," said Mr Surapong, who described the ex-premier as an economic expert.

"And if time permits, I will ask for his opinions about the 30% reserve requirement before a decision is made," he said.

Mr Surapong said their talks were unlikely to violate the five-year political ban on Mr Thaksin as the adviser's job was not a political post.

Mr Thaksin was banned from politics for five years after the Constitution Tribunal last year dissolved the Thai Rak Thai party. Mr Thaksin was among the 111 party executives held to account for electoral fraud.

Mr Surapong also insisted that the government under the leadership of Samak Sundaravej would not be a mere puppet of Mr Thaksin.

Deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra kneels to perform a `krab paendin', paying respect to the motherland, after emerging from the airport passenger terminal.

"Mr Thaksin will not pull the strings. I'd like you to observe Mr Samak's work and let time be the judge of Mr Samak and other cabinet members," he said.

On the day the proposal was floated, Mr Thaksin reiterated his intention to turn his back on politics. He would spend his time fighting charges brought against him.

"I want to stress that I don't want to get involved in politics any more. I want to live here in Thailand again as a Thai citizen after spending all those months as a globe-trotting adventurer," he told journalists.

"I had to return to prove my innocence and restore my reputation, which has been unfairly tarnished," he said. "The day I went abroad on a foreign mission, I was prime minister. But today I am back, and I have to face allegations. I will have to have my fingerprints taken like a suspect," he said.

The proposed advisory role has cast doubts on Mr Thaksin's pledge that he will retire from politics and analysts raised concerns about him becoming a prime minister behind the curtains.

Somjai Phagaphasvivat, a political analyst at Thammasat University, said if Mr Thaksin was made adviser, the country would have two prime ministers working in parallel.

"We will have two kinds of prime minister - one who has accountability but no power which is Mr Samak, and the other who has power but no accountability which is Mr Thaksin," Mr Somjai said.

He said perhaps Mr Samak's only upper hand over government members is his power to dissolve parliament. But once he has done that, Mr Samak will have completely lost control of the PPP, Mr Somjai added.

Thitinan Pongsudhirak, a Chulalongkorn University (CU) lecturer on political science, said the finance minister's plan to talk to Mr Thaksin about the currency controls was an ominous sign.

"The 30% reserve requirement is a sensitive issue. This will be an interference in the central bank's handling of the economy, which can't be good."

Panithan Wattanayakorn, also a CU political scientist, warned of political conflicts if Mr Thaksin failed to honour his word.

"A lot of people do not believe he will keep out of politics. It depends on him whether or not he really wants to end his political role," he said.

Suriyasai Katasila, secretary-general of the Campaign for Popular Democracy and a member of the People's Alliance for Democracy, did not believe Mr Thaksin would wash his hands of politics.

Mr Thaksin's past behaviour suggested otherwise, he said, adding Mr Thaksin was believed to have exerted power over Mr Samak and the PPP in several matters including the cabinet line-up. "He may exert power to influence the cases [of power abuse and corruption against him]. Mr Samak must show that there is only one prime minister here," said Mr Suriyasai.

Mr Thaksin was greeted by thousands of supporters at Suvarnabhumi airport before being whisked away to the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions to face charges of corruption and abuse of power over the Ratchadaphisek land deal.

He was released on bail of eight million baht and ordered not to leave the country without the court's permission. Mr Thaksin then headed to the Office of the Attorney-General to hear charges involving concealment of shares in SC Asset Corporation. He was freed on bail of one million baht and again told not to leave the country.

  10. Ohh if you type asianpay + scam into google.. Theres a talkgold thread, in there people have listed emails of the relevant government offices that may be assembling a case and pursuing them legally. As I said, wouldnt be the route I would go to ensure I was priority paid, but your not going to have to be heavy about that either.

typed it in google and found the talkgold forum, but i'm having trouble finding where the list of government offices is. can you PM me a link?

  11. Me personally as its in country, I would have a little holiday to CM on the basis of pure holiday not a cost exercise, and make myself known as a large and wild eyed customer walk in.. Make them realize that all company <deleted> aside they personally, owe me personally, and I am am coming to collect and they aint walking out on me. You could also throw a interest charge at them for fun too.

Its not a large amount of money but I react very badly to unpaid debt. Its my money not thiers and they wont keep it, not and remain healthy.

Sure that may not be a good attitude, may not be a enlightened modern mentality. I cant help it over scams makes me see red and not think clearly (in which case it would be write it off and live a long and happy life) it was obvious this company was involved in ponzi scams for a long time, they know what they were doing and have lied and cheated people out of money.

I would love to go to Chiang Mai right now. Nothing would give me more pleasure than walking in and looking them in the eyes. But I must wait now because my wife is about to give birth any day now. Unfortunately I am relying on this money to pay hospital fees.

  12. On their main page it says that they're not taking on new registrants, and that the website solely is there to allow old customers to check their history!

Seems they're out of business already!

but in the mean time they owe me money from their other business. i despise scam artists and would like to see those responsible imprisoned for what they have done. Other than the local police, is there anyone at the governmental level that would pursue this?

  13. I wasn't aware that they had another business that modeled the ponzi scams until it was too late. I'm guessing that they decide to keep my money to fund their fraudulent business "The Investors Corner" (www.theinvestorscorner.com) which I am not a part of and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I was only using TGE's exchange service to change my e-gold into baht via bank transfer. Now 6 months later and I am still waiting (after their guaranteed 7 day transaction period) . 2 weeks ago they gave me $500 which was supposed the first of their weekly payment plan to me. They say that they are giving 7% interest which is much lower than the money that I would have received in baht at the time due to the deflation of the US dollar now. I asked for refunds of the e-gold a long time ago and they refused. The price of gold is at an all time high now and I would have benefited from having my e-gold generate profit for me this whole time rather than having them sit on it. I am getting the shaft and it is driving me insane.

From what I understand the authorities look down on these types of scams in Thailand. The fact that they still maintain an office boggles my mind. There has to be something that can be done. If I called the police I don't think they would understand the nature of the crime because it is beyond the scope of the low funded criminal justice system here in Thailand. Is there anyone that is tech savvy in Thailand that has any pull in the legal system? I called the finance police but because they were only exchanging commodities instead of stock that it was not their department. I'm left out in the cold on this one.

    Any ideas?

  14. I remember seeing a kit you could by in the US years ago that allowed you to make a replica on your own in your garage. I don't see what the big problem is. The cars that you put the body on has no balls and is nothing like the real thing. some people just want the flash but can't afford the real thing. It's the same with the fake Rolex's in Thailand. Anyone buying one would know immediately that it isn't real.
