Headline today NY Times: ‘We Don’t Have to Sign Deals’: Trump Backs Off Big Promises About Tariffs After weeks of bragging about upcoming trade “deals” with foreign countries, President Trump says the United States doesn’t need to worry about them after all.
-
That's OK -- If Mr. Trump wants to have a bunch of people tell what an incredible job he is doing, all he has to do is call a Cabinet meeting.
-
Quoting Trump in an on the record interview is Trump bashing. OK.
-
Maybe Mr. Trump was not paying much attention to Justice Roberts administering the oath of office because Trump knew it did not contain the word "tariff".

'Shocking': Experts question Trump claiming 'I don't know' about upholding Constitution Trump said he would have to consult with his "brilliant" lawyers. May 6, 2025, 3:22 AM <SKIP> Asked a final time if, as president, he needed to uphold the Constitution, Trump again deflected. "I don't know. I have to respond by saying, again, I have brilliant lawyers that work for me, and they are obviously going to follow what the Supreme Court said," in what's become a new standard answer in interviews when confronted with similar questions about what the law requires him to do. "President Trump’s failure to acknowledge that he swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution is unprecedented in American history," Gerhardt said. "Most presidents have not been lawyers, but every president, other than Trump, has acknowledged that every federal official, including the president, has the duty to uphold the Constitution." Trump, with his right hand raised, took the oath of office on Jan. 20 as prescribed by Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution. "I Donald John Trump do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States," Trump said during his inauguration. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/experts-question-trump-claiming-asked-duty-uphold-constitution/story

This reminds of reading I don't remember where or when but some wag wrote: Why did Christie Brinkley break-up/divorce from Billy Joel? Because one day Christie woke up and said to herself: I'm Christie Brinkley and I'm married to Billy Joel?? NB they met by chance at a Caribbean hotel when both were escaping from a divorce.

Full irony: Doug Mills of The New York Times won the breaking news photography prize for his photos capturing the attempted assassination of President Trump last year, including an image in which a bullet can be seen. Including this one:

The Treasury secretary urged executives and entrepreneurs to look beyond the Trump administration’s trade agenda. May 5, 2025 NYTimes via https://archive.ph/7ovyU Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged skittish global business leaders on Monday to ignore President Trump’s economic naysayers and ramp up investment in the United States, defending an economic agenda that economists warn will slow economic growth and exacerbate inflation. Speaking to executives, entrepreneurs and policymakers, Mr. Bessent argued that the Trump administration’s economic plans go beyond trade policy and will pay off in the long run. He urged them to also focus on Mr. Trump’s plans to cut taxes and regulation, which he said would spur job creation and output. “Tariffs are engineered to encourage companies like yours to invest directly in the United States,” Mr. Bessent said in remarks at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles. “You’ll be glad you did — not only because we have the most productive work force in the world. But because we will soon have the most favorable tax and regulatory environment as well.” BUT So I’m asking you to be excited about the future of our country again. And this will be America’s new Golden Age. We’re going to turn it around so fast your head will spin. -- DJT 22 OCT 2024 https://www.rev.com/transcripts/trump-rally-in-greensboro-north-carolina

Well one thing for sure he IS POTUS for 2nd time. And as Tom Cruise put it in Maverick (2022): (That's) one of life's mysteries, sir. I just think some of his proposals and current actions exceed those powers generally acknowledged as within the Presidential authority without then calling on some novel & contorted interpretation of prior Acts that he has further authority.

Per the topic heading I do not have 'angst and unease' over Mr. Trump as President but I wish he was not. I moved to Thailand in 2004, and I am happy I did so as it seems the vox populi in America is capable of electing Trump as president TWICE. I just read this from Mr. Trump's Meet the Press interview: “Anything can happen,” he said. “But I think we’re going to have the greatest economy in the history of our country. I think we’re going have the greatest economic boom in history.” I don't want to know what a President thinks things are gonna be -- I just want to know when they are. Trump also said in that interview: “I think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy because he’s done a terrible job.” Roy Cohn at its best.

Trump marks 100 days in office with Biden blame game 05/03/25 6:00 AM ET https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5280246-trump-biden-economic-issues Within minutes of his rally in Michigan to mark 100 days, Trump criticized Biden’s presidency, asking the crowd, “How the hell did that guy ever become president, can somebody explain? How the hell did that happen?” The president then mentioned Biden 14 times in this interview with ABC’s Terry Moran. Even Trump aides repeatedly brought up Trump this week. In a briefing with reporters on Thursday, press secretary Karoline Leavitt and top policy adviser Stephen Miller mentioned Biden and his administration 17 times, accusing the Biden administration of “importing” immigrants into the U.S. and sinking “this planet into bloodshed and war in the Middle East, in Europe and rising tensions in Europe.”
