jerrymahoney replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Hegseth and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine testified Wednesday before the Senate Armed Services Committee, as the president mulls joining Israel's offensive against Iran. "My job, our job, Chairman and I, at all times is to make sure we, the president, has options and is informed of what those options might be and what the ramifications of what those options might be," Hegseth said. Democratic Sen. Jack Reed, the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, criticized Hegseth and told him that while he's been at the helm, the Pentagon has been "paralyzed by infighting and stripped of expert staff at a time when we need stability and professionalism." Hegseth responded with a statement that the Defense Department is "executing a common-sense agenda to achieve peace through strength." https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pete-hegseth-israel-iran-trump-options-senate-armed-services/ -

Headline now NYTimes: An Iran Deal in Two Weeks? Hard to Achieve, Even if Trump Really Wants One. Negotiating with Tehran is time-consuming and difficult under the best of circumstances. And it remains unclear whether President Trump’s 14-day clock is more than a way to buy time for military preparations. -

From the CNN link above: Why Trump’s two-week pause on Iran makes sense — and why it may not work But Trump’s record of unpredictability casts doubt on whether he will make use of the maneuvering room he’s created. Until Thursday, all the signs coming out of the White House were that Trump was moving close to ordering US bombing raids on Iran’s subterranean nuclear plant at Fordow — despite the risk this could drag the United States into another Middle East war. But after reviewing strike options, he’s pulled back for now. -

-- Inside the Situation Room, where Trump and his national security team are weighing next steps on Iran Top national security officials, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, are among officials who have joined Trump in the meetings as the administration weighs the spiraling conflict. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt held a press conference on Thursday — the first since Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran June 12 — and said the next two weeks will be a critical time period as U.S. officials map out next steps. "I have a message directly from the president, and I quote: 'Based on the fact that there's a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future. I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks.' That's a quote directly from the president," she said Thursday. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/inside-situation-room-where-trump-his-national-security-team-weighing-next-steps-iran __________________________ NB 'TOP' -
Trump called former President Joe Biden "the worst president in the history of our country." https://nypost.com/video/trump-calls-biden-the-worst-president-in-us-history-im-cleaning-up-the-mess/ -- but some on here are still wanting to say: Oh Yeah? but he is better than Biden meaning he is better than the worst President in history.

As regards criticizing Trump, this from John Bolton: The two no longer speak, so Mr. Bolton said he had no idea what Mr. Trump would decide. He was not sure if Mr. Trump knew himself. But in his experience, Mr. Bolton said, Mr. Trump was “frantic and agitated” in national security crises. “He talks to a lot of people and he’s looking for somebody who will say the magic words,” Mr. Bolton said. “He’ll hear something and he’ll decide, ‘That’s right, that’s what I believe.’ Which lasts until he has the next conversation.”

Trump says he’ll decide whether US will directly attack Iran within 2 weeks Updated 4:18 AM GMT+7, June 20, 2025 -- BEERSHEBA, Israel (AP) — Israel and Iran exchanged more attacks on Thursday as U.S. President Donald Trump said he would make up his mind within two weeks on whether the U.S. military will get directly involved in the conflict, seeking to keep open the door to diplomacy on Tehran’s nuclear program. “Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks,” Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, told reporters, reading out Trump’s statement. https://apnews.com/article/israel-iran-attacks-nuclear-news-06-19-2025-b508817b78ed8d2f6067c1516215cf94 Cue 2 week think-about-it music

Trump is emphatic on any possible military intervention: "I may do it, I may not do it. Nobody knows what I'm going to do," Mr. Trump told reporters when he was asked about the U.S. taking part in the strikes on Iran's nuclear and military facilities. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/iran-israel-war-us-trump-nuclear-sites-risk-all-out-war/

From the transcript of Trump's Army 250th parade speech: Time and again, America's enemies have learned that if you threaten the American people, our soldiers are coming for you. Your defeat will be certain, your demise will be final, and your downfall will be total and complete because our soldiers never give up, never surrender, and never, ever quit. They fight, fight, fight and they win, win, win. https://rollcall.com/factbase/trump/transcript/donald-trump-remarks-military-parade-army-250-june-14-2025/ ___________________________ From Knute Rockne's newsreel simulation of locker room Pep-talk speech 1928: And don't forget, men -- today is the day we're gonna win. I am just questioning the legal status of a TRUTH social post as opposed to any other sort of Presidential directive or order. -

Most likely correct that a TRUTH is not binding. As opposed to: (via AI quickie) Presidential proclamation: A presidential proclamation is an official announcement from the President of the United States, often used to declare national holidays, commemorate events, or announce policy changes. While some proclamations are ceremonial, others can have substantive policy implications, particularly those related to trade or immigration. They are published in the Federal Register and codified in the Code of Federal Regulations. While not always legally binding, proclamations can carry the force of law if issued under the President's constitutional or statutory authority. -

I have posted several times with direct quotes from Truth Social. I am not addressing the content of those posts or who voted for what. I am just looking at to what extent if any those "Truths" are legally binding as opposed to other types of orders in writing. -

Another "Truth" order on Truth Social: "ICE Officers are herewith ordered, by notice of this TRUTH, to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History." https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114690267066155731 So now there are executive orders, proclamations, and "TRUTH" orders. -

From the Justia link above: "Given the complexities surrounding employment and immigration law, you might find it beneficial to consult with an attorney. They can offer guidance specific to your situation and help ensure that your business remains in compliance with federal and state laws." So it isn't always cut & dry. -
