Several years ago I had a student who was half Arab and half Thai. She was obviously raised in a secular household and was a very nice, normal girl. She never wore a headscarf and dressed and acted just like her Buddhist classmates. She was admitted to an English University a few years ago and now always wears a full Niqap and only posts quotes from the Quran on her Facebook page. Sending her the the Islamic Republic of England was the worst choice her parents could have made.

Entitlements... The easiest way to cut money there would be to cut everyone off of SS and Medicare a make them prove that they are eligible all over again. That would eliminate fraud and save billions. Brace yourselves, after USAID, this is the next obvious target.

USAID is low hanging fruit. After that has been picked, what's next? The obvious targets are Medicare and Social Security. Billions could be saved in Social Security payments by requiring recipients to personally verify their identity in their state of residence. Better get copies your Birth Certificates and a plane ticket back to your US hometown ready!

Trump’s Proposal for Gazan Relocation makes perfect sense
Callmeishmael replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
There are 2 reasons why this relocation plan will never fly: 1. The Palestinians believe, with some justification, that if they leave they will never be allowed to return. 2. Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait and other Arab nations have accepted Palestinian refugees in the past and soon came to regret it. Palestinian extremists assassinated the Jordanian King and tried to overthrow the government. Palestinian refugees openly welcome the Iraqi invaders when they took over Kuwait. Palestinian refugees contributed to the unrest that led to Lebanon's decades long civil war. Palestinian groups have ties to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. A sizable percent of Palestinians have been radicalized by generations of grievances, so they often do not live peaceably with their neighbors. Arabs don't like to admit it publicly, but they don't want the Palestinians to settle in their country. -
Thailand's Air Pollution Crisis Hits ASEAN's Collaborative Agenda
Callmeishmael replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's not just Bangkok though. On most days the air pollution is just as bad out in the countryside. Here are a couple of maps: (The first one is AQI -Air Quality Index, the second one is the FIRMS fire map) -
Could Trump to Put 100 percent tariffs on Thailand?
Callmeishmael replied to John Drake's topic in Political Soapbox
The idea of a BRICS currency just sinks like a brick! I can't see China or India or Russia ever surrendering the economic autonomy that adopting a common currency would require. -

Does air conditioning reduce PM2.5 ?
Callmeishmael replied to fvw53's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I hate to be pedantic, (actually that's a lie, I love being pedantic!) but you are comparing two different things. The map is showing the local AQI or Air Quality Index, while your Air Cleaner is showing PM2.5 in ppm. AQI is a composite figure that includes particulate matter (PM1, PM10, PM2.5) as well as CO2 levels, NOx levels, SO2, etc... If the AQI is 180, the PM2.5 will typically be anywhere from 20 to 80. If you click on the 180 figure, you should be able to see more detailed information from that reporting station, including the actual PM2.5.. -

Russian tourist attacked in Pattaya over livestream mix-up

In boxing terms, this was a case of a middle-weight being attacked by a heavy-weight! -
I'm actually ok with this. Deporting the idiots pictured above won't bother me in the slightest. Where we find ourselves on a slippery slope is defining who is a terrorist and who isn't. For example, defining Hamas as a terrorist organization is just common sense. However, they are also the government in the Gaza strip, so by definition anyone who has any dealings with them can be be labeled as supporting a terrorist organization.

The Troubling Decline of DEI: A Step Backward for America
Callmeishmael replied to Social Media's topic in World News
One of my sisters struggled with this a few years ago during some election where a ballot measure about Affirmative Action was being voted on. On one hand, she has always been liberal and supportive of minority rights. On the other hand she was the mother of a white, middle-class boy! She eventually voted no, she couldn't vote to put her son at a disadvantage to minorities when he applied for University or for jobs.
