  1. Warm-white is my preference in the bedroom, that's why I wanted the electronic thingies. Still got some warm-white tubes so I can use them if necessary. Can't seem to find warm-white LED's in my searches, OK prove me wrong on that one as well
  2. Would Adam and Eve it ? Been searching the Internet on and off for several days and all I ever got was blank or out of stock results Of course I tried Lazada but how comes it worked for you but not for me? You must have magic search fingers Anyways thanks for the link I snapped up the last two before they went, so Sheryl if you need one let me know and will gladly send you one. I still would like to keep one spare for myself.
  3. Hi Sheryl, I am have a couple of round lights still running on fluorescents, all others I've changed to LED but they don't seem to last as long Any ways on the couple of fluorescents I have done away with all the old ballast stuff and use these electronic units that are supposed to be more economical and better still give instant on, so no more waiting for the flicker of the light actually come on. I like to be prepared, old boy scout, and recently searched for a couple of these electronic units for spares but can't seem to find any anywhere. I got my originals from HomePro but they seem to have stopped stocking them, it's all LED now If these electronic units are no longer available this information may not be much use to you but thought I'd post it anyway. Somebody may find it interesting. If you, or any one do find a supplier do let me know.
  4. Yes I'm having trouble too. Non of the click links work
  5. Hopefully all the points for cleaning out a water tank have been covered now, several times. A sort of "Dummies guide to water tank cleaning"
  6. Didn't know the basic simple task of syphoning could be so complicated Love the artwork. Just to clear up a point, you have to move the suction end in the tank around the bottom to get the gunk, leaving it in just one place will only suck a hole in the gunk, it has to be moved around. Another way of filling the syphon hose is to shove the whole hose into the tank so it gets full of water. Block the end, so the water doesn't run back into the tank as you quickly whip the hose out and lay it on the floor. If it's done right the syphoning should start. It's how I empty the kids paddling pool, using a 1/2 hose with my thumb over the end. Works every time.
  7. Yes You can use pressure from the village water to fill the pipe. Doesn't matter what you use just need to get the pipe filled with water. Get the syphoning hose set up. One end inside the tank near the bottom and the longer section outside lower as much as possible than the intake of the inside hose. Connect the village water supply to the end of the outside hose and let it run till you can feel/see the water coming out of the hose inside the tank. The whole hose is now full of water and by removing the village water hose the syphoning should start to empty the tank. To suck up the sediment collected at the bottom of the tank you will need to use a stiff pipe to move around the bottom of the tank, a flexible hose would not work. I use a length of that blue plastic pipe. If your tank is on the ground and you don't have much drop for the syphoning to work, make sure the outside hose quite long and laying on the ground, you need more weight of water in the outside hose than in the inside hose for it to work. Sticking the end of the outside hose down a drain would help to get stronger flow of water. I use a 3/4 pipe, because that's what I happen to have, but any size will work, though bigger is better. Good luck If you only have flexible hosepipe you could attach the section that goes into the tank to a long stick and poke around with that, that would work.
  8. I have a total of 5 drives connected to my computer. All the drives are HHD except for my main system drive which is SSD. The SSD obviously is in use constantly but the remaining HHD's are only used occasionally for reference, storage or backup and whatever. The point is these HHD's need not be spinning all the time, only need to power up when called for. I have set up a power plan so the HDD's power down after 10minuites of inactivity and only power up again when I click on them. OK so when I click on one of the idle HDD's it can takes a few moments to wake up, but I think its worth the wear saved by not running idle all day and night just waiting to be called on. Just thought I'd pass it on
  9. Now for something a bit different. "Torrentday" has been dropping some really old movies recently. They have all been remastered so don't have that old flickering look, easy to watch. Some are silent movies with accompanying mood music, some are talkies but I don't think they had subtitles in those days. Anyway in those old movies dialogue is easy to hear, unlike modern mumblings drowned out by music score. It's amazing what they could do with movies in those early years, without all the techniques and tricks they use these days. Especially impressed with the "The Covered Wagon (1923)" where hundreds of extras and wagons stretch far into the distance. Also the river crossing, those guys earned their pay. Some of the more recent ones:- Red River Range (1938) - With John Wayne Very organized cattle rustlers are operating with portable slaughterhouses and refrigerator vans. The governor asks the Three Mesquiteers to go undercover to investigate. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0030663/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_4_nm_0_q_Red%20River%20Range%20(1938) ------------------------------- The Great White Silence (1924) In 1910 the British Antarctic Expedition, led by Capt. Robert F. Scott, embarks from Lyttleton, NZ on a quest to become the first to reach the South Pole. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1764657/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_3_tt_2_nm_6_q_The%20Great%20White%20Silence%20(1924) ------------------------------- Wyoming Outlaw (1939) - With John Wayne Will Parker has been destroyed by a local politician and now must steal to feed his family. He steals a steer from the Three Mesquiteers. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032146/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_1_nm_0_q_Wyoming%20Outlaw%20(1939) -------------------------------- The Covered Wagon (1923) Two wagon caravans converge at what is now Kansas City, and combine for the westward push to Oregon. On their quest the pilgrims will experience desert heat, mountain snow, hunger, and Indian attacks. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0013951/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_7_nm_1_q_covered%20 ------------------------------------ The Iron Horse (1924) After witnessing the murder of his father by a renegade as a boy, the grown-up Brandon helps to realize his father's dream of a transcontinental railway. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0015016/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_6_nm_2_q_he%20Iron%20Horse%20(1924)
  10. I was going to make some joke about auditioning bar girls for the job but decided it wasn't really my thing Anyway that's the object of using a pump to fill the pipe with water.
  11. I don't think there is any significance to the Morse code, just something the programmer wanted to do for a bit of fun. Would be nice if there was some way of giving the programmer some feedback, just to let him know there are some people out there who noticed and appreciate his bit of fun.
  12. Daffy D now talks about fixing a pump to start things off..........I think I once many moons ago syphoned out petrol and that sucked......... Not sure if I explained it right. The idea of the pump is to attach it to the end of the outlet pipe. Fill the whole pipe with water using the pump, right up until the water flows back into the tank. When the whole pipe is full of water remove the pump and the syphoning should start. Of course you always suck on the end, like syphoning petrol, but in this case I think using the pump would be better.
  13. Opps! Supposed to be 6m. Still great suction
  14. My tank is up a 60m tower so the syphon thing works well. It does suck out all the gunk. If you tank is only a few inches off the ground you need the outside hose to be a lot longer to get that weight of water for the syphon to work. If possible even put the end down a drain to get that extra height. Inspired by this thread I finally got round to cleaning my tank today. I had the end of the drain hose somewhere I could see while up the tower so knew where to poke the suction pipe. Los of gunk came out, so should be good for another few years.
  15. Every torch you buy these days seems to have the flashing light option. Bit annoying when you want to switch the thing on but have to go through the push button sequence to just have a steady light. Recently I bought a Xiaomi Mijia Mi Portable Electric Air Pump for checking tyre pressures on the kids bikes and the shopping motorbike. The unit has a light button. Useful for working in the dark, and yes it has a flashing light in the push button sequence But here is the interesting bit the flashing light isn't random it flashes the Morse code for SOS. ... ---... Well I thought was interesting. Shall I get my coat now
  16. The idea of siphoning is that the pipe outside the tank is longer and lower than the pipe inside the tank. The principle is that the water in the outside pipe is heavier than the water inside the pipe in the tank thereby gravity pulls it out. As long as the outside pipe is lower than the intake of the inside pipe the syphon will work. The normal way to start a syphon, that is filling the whole pipe with water to get the thing flowing is to suck on the outside pipe till the water starts to flow. This is not really practical with large diameter pipe from the tank. What I do is set the whole thing up, then use water pressure from the pump to fill the outside pipe till its full and flowing back into the tank, then remove the pump and water should start to flow by it's self from the tank.
  17. Drag or push the car out into the middle of the road so it's blocking all traffic, then park your car in the space so he can't get it back, then go indoors open a beer and watch him dealing with all the angry Neighbours who cant get past.
  18. School supply and stationary shops usually carry those kind things. Usually at the back with the handicraft section.
  19. Thank you all for interesting replies. Especially "connda" and "elfpattaya". Looks like perfect combination at reasonable price. Will place order for the two items Thanks
  20. So looking through Lazada for headphones for the computer. Easy enough you may think it is if you have Bluetooth, what about the rest of us? Just looking for normal headphones where you have a little transmitter thingy that pugs into the computer and a set of headphones for receiving. NO BLUETOOTH Used to have such a setup long ago so it must be available somewhere, just can't seem to find it. Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated. Why is everything these days Bluetooth and Gamimg. Want to buy a CPU, motherboard, graphic card or memmory stick, it's all "gaming" What about the rest of us who just want normal stuff???? Mini rant over
  21. Some interesting points made. But keep in mind the operating distance of the tracker, and if the bike is stolen and hidden in a shed, having the tracker active only when the ignition is on ain't gonna be much use.
  22. No it won't. Engines run best at their correct temperature.
  23. True. Bike batteries are not very big, unlike a car, so if you don't use the bike for a few days the battery may be a bit low. Something to be aware of. Could get a small solar panel to hook the bike up to so you won't have to worry.
