  1. Hi Folks, Someone here has been talking about upgrading an Acer laptop computer. But, for me, a desktop makes better sense. I don't walkabout with a laptop. And, I have a Note4 in case I must communicate while away from home. I think the Intel Core i5-12600KF Processor is plenty for my needs, and I hate computer gaming. And, I am not into computer assisted design of any kind. So..... The only questions are.... a. Where to buy this CPU cheapest. b. If I wanted an ASUS main board, then could I save by buying a combo with this CPU and any reliable main board from ASUS? c. Are there any special ways to get a Windows OS super cheap here in Thailand? I think I will opt for a Genuine Windows OS, this time, although I have never used Genuine in the past. Basically, I just intend to build a desktop computer that will take the place of my aging ACER Laptop which I purchased for USD500 in HongKong in 2015. Any thoughts would be helpful. I am no longer that much interested in computers as I used to be, either the hardware or the software. I just want to quickly build a fairly fast computer with 16GBytes of Ram, and a 4TByte HDD, plus install the OS on a 512GByte Samsung SSD. And, a cheap power supply, of course. Trying to stay below about USD500.00, which is what I paid for the ACER laptop in 2015. Normally, in the past, I shopped at JIB. But, this time, I might not. Regards, Gamma NOTE: It's imperative that I have GPU on the CPU, onboard. I hate GPUs that always seem to overheat and burn up, and I cannot tolerate needless fans inside the computer box, whirring and whirring. SolidState cooling is the ONLY way to go....(for me)....
  2. Native Google Drive Desktop app, for example....plus a few other things.
  3. Yes. This is my thinking, as well.
  4. I would be interested in using this solution IF I thought I might gain in performance by using Win11. The problem is that there seems to be very little to gain, in performance benefits, by upgrading to Win11. Please refer to the article I already linked in one of my most recent posts.
  5. Windows 10 boots super fast for me. No problems on this front.
  6. Or, it proves that I am nostalgic, and full of nostalgia for the past. I am happy to upgrade when I can gain immediate and real rewards.
  7. Yes. I will know in advance by reading reviews.... https://www.pcworld.com/article/1471886/why-switch-to-windows-11.html#:~:text=Simply put%2C there just isn, that much to be significant. Windows is GARBABE, anyway. I prefer Linux for my computers, but am unable to use it due to my requirements in some cases. Anyway, Sure a Shootin', I will NOT be upgrading to Windows 11, anytime soon. There is just no appreciable advantage in it. And, sometimes, things go wrong when doing a Windows OS upgrade.... Better just to leave things as they are...if....one is using Windows 10... Just my opinion and your opinions may, obviously, differ.
  8. When I install new components on my desktops, I get IMMEDIATE positive performance results.
  9. OK I will try it, based on your gushing reviews of upgrading to Win11. But, do you really think that I can upgrade to Win11 using my Aspire V3 111P ? I sort of doubt it..... I may be wrong, though.
  10. My time posting on Asean Now (I prefer TV)....is NOT a waste, and never wasted. I like to think that I am contributing my time towards the improvement of TV, and also my efforts, presumably, help to sell advertising, which in turn helps the forum. This is my MAIN concern when posting on TV. Re: WIN11, I really think that it will not afford me any noticeable user-experience advantages.
  11. This ACER is also fanless. I have no idea why it overheats and freezes...but it does. (Also, for my purposes, I would not buy another laptop. When I build a desktop, I am free to change all components at my whim.)
  12. And so... What are the tangible improvements that you have found using Windows 11 on an Acer laptop? Mine is a Aspire V3 111P
  13. For one thing, my ACER Aspire V3 111P does not support Windows 11. Also, I have no need for a better OS than Windows 10 for my desktops. Better I wait. Even an hour of upgrading to Windows 11 is not worth any very minor advantages. If my computer works well for my purposes, then no need to change. I am sure many companies feel the same.
  14. There is really no reason to upgrade to Windows 11....YET..... Wait a couple of years.......
  15. By the way: Would it be possible, anyone know, if it is possible to buy a used motherboard upgrade which could be installed on an older Acer laptop, such as that which the OP has, and I have? If so, I would also consider doing this.
  16. I already did that the moment I first purchased my laptop, in 2015...a fairly cheap Acer. But now, it's the gpu (which is just the gpu offered by INTEL on the CPU) that is not up to snuff, and getting almost too slow to operate a 27 inch monitor connected to the laptop. The thing often overheats, too. Maybe I should have it cleaned or clean it myself. But still, I think it is too slow. I am too cheap to buy a new one.
  17. How do the White women find the Black guys in Gambia? How do old Farang men find the young and beautiful women in Thailand, for that matter...!?
  18. Hookworm can be contracted just from walking on ground where hookworm exists. I have had a deathly fear of hookworm since 7th Grade Middle School. This is why I do not play golf in bare feet. Only jockstrap and Nike Shoes..... Hookworm, for me, is worse than Farang on Thai Tennis courts.
  19. Is that an autosomal dominant or autosomal recessive trait, might I ask? Or, is the trait located on a sex chromosome?
  20. Are you referring to GAPO syndrome? Why not define abbreviations and or acronyms we use? There are far too many of them, these days.
  21. This one is an EXCELLENT Topic, and I could not have done better, myself. Also, as I have stated, I empathize and sympathize, and act accordingly, myself.
  22. I would say that I, like you, don't like to have Farang in sight, when I exercise, either playing tennis, or in the swimming pools, or walking in the mountains. For one thing, if they nod to you, then you are forced to nod back, or risk getting a tongue lashing, or worse. Farang have so many hangups, and come from almost any country under the sun. This is why I do not want to be hassled by them, especially when I prefer to be relaxing, like Sabai-sabai. I really do not like the Farang I see around Thailand. Maybe there are a few good ones. But how can we tell which are the good one percent, and which are the bad 99 percent? I am not joking here. So, this is why it is my policy to completely STAY CLEAR of them. The Thai people can do what they like. But I, as a Farang, have long ago set my alien Farang policy, and it is not likely to change in the near or far future, either.
  23. Do you expect to be seeing Trump, soon, up and personal? I envy you.
  24. a. Farang should NOT be banned from Tennis Courts...IF they dress in ALL White, and also in very Short Shorts. b. Farang should NOT be banned from Squash Courts, no matter what they choose to wear....and....This includes being on the squash court in nothing more than a jock strap. c. I prefer squash, and I prefer to wear as little as possible on the court. c2. I prefer to play squash in nothing on my feet. Much easier to be more active with just bare feet and jock strap. I love squash and used to play at Penn. Penn has a TON of squash courts available. Quite beautiful courts, too.
