I've been to Hawaii several times, several different places. Not at all my cup of tea.

Time to dust off my tale of leaving LOS. Seven years here and got fed up. Moved to Mexico, and STUPIDLY/STUBBORNLY did NOT get a re-entry permit, I was DONE with this place! I was back in about 6 weeks. The very first day back I was reminded why I left in the first place (trying to get internet to my rented condo) but it was with a renewed appreciation. Yes, I had to get a whole new retirement visa, but I knew that was my own fault. Sum num na to ME! 😁

Foreign man caught on CCTV stealing Thai flag in Phuket
HappyExpat57 replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
I was an enlisted sailor on the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65). Before pulling in to any foreign port, we were gathered and the fear of gawd was impressed upon us. We were reminded we were ambassadors of the US and any aberrant behavior would result in double jeopardy. The host country would enforce their punishment then the Navy would enforce THEIR punishment on top. How would YOU feel if folks came to your home country and behaved like this?- 97 replies

"the [US] flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness" https://www.legion.org/flag/faq#:~:text=The Flag Code states it,during the hours of darkness. -

Thai banks to charge for transactions abroad
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I have several credit cards (one main, one backup) for using in Thailand. I made sure they did NOT include a Foreign Transaction Fee before getting them. Banks make money every time you use a credit card. This new charge from Thai banks is just a money grab. -

Use Taylor Swift disappointment to fuel Thai soft power
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Their case was a little different. They were working without a work permit. https://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/advanced/2733010/russian-rock-band-faces-deportation-from-thailand -
Use Taylor Swift disappointment to fuel Thai soft power
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There was a similar article over the last few weeks on this subject. One of the largest considerations was how poorly artists here are treated. Case in point - about ten years ago, Lady Gaga was publicly ridiculed for her stage presence. Stodgy old farts found her outfits unsavory, but I've seen many Thai models in much skimpier outfits. Farts were also upset that she had a Thai flag on the back of a motorcycle but in no way did she ever use the prop in a disrespectful manner. And the fake Rolex thing? Well, we all know the truth about fakes sold here. https://www.richardbarrow.com/2012/06/thailands-culture-ministry-upset-with-lady-gaga/ Taylor Swift is a class act, donating tens of millions of dollars to worthy causes every year. It is NO loss to her to skip performing in Thailand, plenty of other countries welcome her with open arms. Anyone here who doesn't care for her? She couldn't care less. IF she were to perform in LOS, there wouldn't be an empty seat in the house. Also consider the millions of baht that will never be generated by the peripheral sales/concessions at every concert. Sum num naa. -
I am absolutely ignorant of money markets, stock market investing, etc. Simple man, simple real estate investments and a simple pension. From my unknowing point of view, is this a case of Thailand becoming a middleman for selling US bonds? If so, wouldn't you want to bypass Thai banks altogether and just buy US bonds from US brokers? What value is Thailand adding in this equation?

Trump says he ‘wouldn’t protect’ Prince Harry if he’s reelected

He WON'T get re-elected so this is a moot point. -

Trump appeals fraud case as $112,000-a-day interest accrues
HappyExpat57 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The only way the orange-tinted fraud ever gets the shield of presidency is if he gets re-elected. Once the primaries are behind us, the coffee table debaters will settle down and reality will sink in. The majority of voters just plain don't like Joe. This is a statistical fact. However, even more folks REALLY don't like his opponent and the threat he represents if he ever worms his way back in. Once again, we'll have to hold our noses as we pull the lever and another sad election will be behind us, with Joe stumbling and bumbling along again. -

The wheels of justice grind VERY slowly, but also very fine. -
Not sure if you've heard anything about the IVF laws Alabama just put out there - basically they now define a frozen embryo as a person. The reasons for imposing such an atrocity was littered with Christian references. This has now stopped just about ALL doctors performing fertility procedures for fear of being arrested. The book "1984" and "The Handmaid's Tale" video series were supposed to be fiction. Christian Nationalists have taken them to heart and are making them law. These Christian Nationalists prefer to be called "Nationalist Christians" - or Nat C's for short.
