I'm a fan of Jomtien, having lived there on and off (mostly on) for the last ten years. I took a job in Chanthaburi 18 months ago, and have been keeping an eye on Jomtien rents as I plan on moving back when I'm done here. I have been floored with the way rent ads have skyrocketed, nearly doubling since I left. I wonder if that's just wishful thinking on the part of the owners or if that really is what the market will bear now.

They absolutely MUST keep this issue alive and well and living in the US gubmint. It is a passionate distraction from other issues they'd rather the US folks don't think about.

I suspect anyone legit wouldn't be asking these questions in the first place.

BTW, TEFL certificates are not a requirement for employment as a teacher in Thailand, so there is no requirement for them to be certified. Minimum of a legitimate Bachelors and transcripts that DO need some sort of certification/verification IS required to get a work permit. But, op, I have a sneaking suspicion you were already aware of this.

In a word, yes. The days of backpackers coming in for a temporary teaching gig using a fake degree are over.

I've worked in about eight different schools in Thailand and never heard of this.

A couple of weeks ago I was at Makro buying some ground meat. There were 3 or 4 Thais who placed their bags up to be weighed and I placed mine behind theirs. The jerk weighing and pricing the meats did all theirs then stopped before doing mine. He started screwing around on his phone while looking me right at me. He wasn't answering a call, he was just playing around on the phone. I said "screw this" to myself and left the bag there, getting some frozen meat instead. Meh.

I learned that lesson the hard way with "dyed in the wool" MAGAts. I spun my wheels providing them with facts only to eventually get it through my thick skull they didn't care about the truth.

There was a recent post regarding the AN upgrade and all the "features" it provided, so I had FULL skepticism in trying out the "new and improved" immigration website. Much to my surprise, I logged in flawlessly. There may be hope yet.
