  1. The trouble is, when you combine alcohol and boredom, these comments are the result.
  2. In case you didn't know (I didn't) - tl:dr = too long; didn't read Learn something every day whether you want to or not.
  3. The point was I THINK about smacking them but DON'T! We all have dark places we go and controlling our behavior is the choice we make.
  4. You really need to reconsider offering advice to someone when you don't know all the facts. Your situation involved kids who will react to your tactics. The two I was referring to couldn't care less about little behavior marks. I tried the "writing 100 times 'I will not be a naughty student'" and that had no impact. I tried contacting the parents only to find out the parents couldn't care less. I genuinely worry about one in particular bringing a gun to class to shoot me. The other has the deadest eyes in a youth I have ever seen. I only have seven more classes with them then they are out of my life and I'll breathe a little easier.
  5. It will be a deterrent to others. If you spank your kid when they deserve it, then later on when they pick up a brick to throw through a window, their ass will hurt and they'll remember "bad behavior results in punishment." Really surprised you can't see that. This is a basic tenet of any justice system.
  6. I used this outfit to do mine about two months ago. They immediately saw an error that would have caused my passport renewal to be denied and I'd have to start the process all over again. The website says UK and Thai, but they also do US passports. Just off Soi Buakhao. Money well spent! https://thaivisa-express.com/
  7. I thought I felt a disturbance in the force. Thais everywhere will be in a panic. How else will they reduce the potency of all that powdered chili they pour on their food?
  8. I get the teacher's frustration. I have two students that make me shake my head and honestly wonder "what the hell will they do to feed themselves when the time comes?" Has the urge to smack them crossed my mind? Of COURSE it has. However, there is NEVER an excuse to lay hands on a student, and if this teacher did indeed hit the student, then he must be removed and punished by more than just a wai and 500 baht.
  9. I'm a little ashamed I engaged with this silly-ass troll.
  10. C'mon now - you put up a post hoping it would appear clever and popular, instead you stepped in dookie. Your best bet is to let it go away like a bad smell. Throwing insults merely prolongs the agony.
  11. That latter one - that's what I thought about your post to begin with.
  12. That's fine for all the bored alcoholics with nothing better to do on topics that advertise said bored alcoholic fog. This OP was making a genuine, decent contribution to a forum that seems to decay more and more with each passing day.
  13. OP - Thank you for your trip report. It's always nice to see Thailand from a fresh perspective. To some other negative Nancy's - if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say it. Make your momma proud, not hang her head in shame.
  14. I really don't get it. I moved to Chanthaburi little over a year ago. I've seen them go through two major road renovations, neither of them lasted more than month. Why must Pattaya milk such projects?
  15. And I'm setting my sights on impressively growing more hair on the top of my head. Even odds either will achieve success.
  16. I trust "reports" as much as I trust US politicians (both sides of the aisle are crooked as a dog's hind leg). I believe my own eyes, and when I fly back from family visits, I go to the duty free and it's ALWAYS significantly less expensive.
  17. IDK . . . if booze was the same price as in the duty free's, I'd be more inclined to tipple a little.
  18. <sarcasm> This will work just as well as "trickle down economics." Consumers will JUMP at the chance of visiting Thailand now with such a financial boon. </sarcasm>
  19. There is just something about the mindset of a traveler who lands in Thailand. Not all, but a good number from all countries think since they are on vacation in Pattaya that laws don't apply to them.
  20. Déjà vu is the phenomenon of feeling as though one has lived through the present situation before. Not sure what brought this to mind.
  21. So NOW they're finally waking up to the fact that Russians/Chinese/Indians don't have the disposable income, or spend it in shops owned by their countrymen, while yanks and canucks make it rain when on vaca. Slow AND dense, not a good business model.
  22. And it's a QUIET dungeon.
  23. I had to make several trips to Mexico city (American embassy) and it was the same for me. The whole of Mexico had a certain dirty tinge like nowhere else I've been. The ONLY decent part of Zihuatanejo was this woman who cooked up two HUGE colanders of tamales every night, 7 for $1 USD. She got plenty of business from me.
  24. Time to dust off this ol' tale: Got the seven-year itch after living in Thailand. Having grown tired of all the bureaucratic nonsense, I pulled up stakes and moved to Zihuatanejo, Mexico. It is NOTHING like that depicted in "The Shawshank Redemption." Six weeks later I was back in LOS with a renewed appreciation. And every time I visit family and friends in the US, I am reminded why I could never move back there. Gawd bless LOS.
  25. I sure hope so!
