  1. Denizen, I don't find it particularly 'enlightening' that the other two sectors employ more people than manufacturing : Ford and others wouldn't build highly automated factories if they still had to employ half the province just to get cars out the door ...

Those '21st century' factories are actually in Thailand's favour - without that level of investment, what would stop the corporations moving their production to Vietnam or Bangladesh simply to take advantage of cheaper labour costs ? That is exactly what some of the Chinese companies are doing - abandoning their own labour force in favor of other countries. Interesting times ahead.

The Chinese are abandoning their labour force because many of the labour intensive industries can not get labour. Seems unbelievable when the population is around 1.4 billion, but this is the case.

  2. HI,

I have been trying to install the Thai visa Iphone App through Itunes, but every time I get the message that it is not in the UK store. I get an option to switch to the US store, but my account is not valid in that store. Is there anywhere else that I can download the App?

    Cheers

  3. Pattaya is a disgusting toilet. I honestly have no idea why anyone besides a creepy sex tourist would want to visit there.

What an incredibly narrow minded and ignorant statement. There are many other things to do in the Pattaya area rather than visiting bars and hookers and there are many Expats that are happily married, with families who like living in the area. I know because I am one of them.

I am not allowed to post a link, but try Googling 50 things to do in Pattaya you might just be surprised.

  4. He said that he was outside Mr Longfellow's accommodation because he was looking for his dog, which had gone missing. He heard somebody talking and then someone grabbed him from behind. He was shocked, and in reaction, jabbed behind himself with "the knife", twice.

Really, went looking for his dog at Mr. Lonfellow's apartment with a knife in his hand... Brilliant story. I hope he is found guilty and spends much longer than he would have pleading guilty, which his lawyer advised him to do... Odd his lawyer wasn't there...

The lawyer is out looking for lee's dog

Is Mr. Aldhouse now blaming the dog for the murder?

The dog is the only witness he has!laugh.png

  5. There are a few spelling mistakes as well as grammar. You should check your work after writing it.

    This is my only advice.

Plus I don't really care for cats.

Did you mean to say 'there are a few spelling mistakes and grammatical errors'. Make sure you're on the money when you're trying to be smart.

check your work before posting, who cares as long as you can read it <deleted>.

nothing more pathetic on this planet then people who check peoples posts for errors.

    Breadbin obviously does.

  6. 'What address do you have on your U licence? What do you plan to do when your UK licence expires. If you live here, you can't renew it. Unless you lie and give a UK address'

I applied for a new license last year as I had lost my old one. I used my sisters address as I do for most other things. I have lived in Thailand for the past 13 years and I have never had a problem driving when I return to the UK. If I got stopped i would be residing at my sisters would I not. I think that you are over thinking this a bit. Albeit as you say the laws do not make any sense. You can apply for a Thai license using only your UK license without any problem.

You might be right that I'm over thinking it. But if you had a serious accident you can be 100% sure the insurance company will check every little detail to see if they can avoid paying out. They would then find out you haven't lived in the UK for years and also find out that you fraudulently acquired a new licence. I know this is unlikely to happen, but it is bound to happen to some people. It is clearly an offence to obtain a UK driving licence if you're not a UK resident. I'd prefer to stay within the law. Having a serious accident, having the insurance company not pay out, and find you are personally liable for any claim (that could run into millions) is just not worth the risk for the sake of driving for a few days. That's just me. If other want to take that risk, then that's their choice. Although I do realise the risk is small. I'd just rather not get caught up in all that. But if you just drive around and don't have an accident then probably there's no way anyone would find out.

I completely understand your point of view Dave and i also like to remain on the right side of the law. I have a valid UK license with a family UK address and I take out valid motor insurance when I hire a car. I do not see this as being an illegal act. By the way I am not resident anywhere other than the UK becuase I can not get residency in Thailand. I hold a UK passport, so should legally be able to drive in the UK on my UK license.

  8. There are 2 parts to a UK license a plastic credit type card and a paper license. To hire a car you haver to produce both parts of the license the card on its own is not valid. The reason for this is that any endorsements are listed on the paper part and not shown on the card.

I used my UK license to get a Thai license without any problem and I did not have to take the driving test, so just go ahead and do it.
