A world class pension scheme for your military service When a member of the armed forces reaches their retirement age, they receive one of the most generous pensions available in the UK. This fairly reflects the unique sacrifice they have provided their country throughout their career. All members of the armed forces are automatically enrolled into the Armed Forces Pension Scheme. Unlike all other public schemes, members pay 0% in contributions each month. The scheme is unfunded and paid from the public purse. Just for comparison teachers pensions accrue at 1/80th and they pay for it, Forces pensions accrue at 1/47th and it is free.

Agree 100%......I have four pension streams......three are UK CPI index linked.

It is notional in the respect they can borrow from it......just as companies are still allowed to borrow from their own pension funds (absolutely immoral) just as Robert Maxwell did with the Mirror's pension fund......criminal.

My brother was in the Army and remember him telling me in the mid-eighties he didn't know what to do with all his money....(slight exaggeration I am sure).......but taking the Armed Forces as an example...... ................the cost of pensions (paid for from general taxation....there are no pension payments made by soldiers).......are astronomical.....and we are paying for it now.

Couldn't argue with that........... burning your bridges is 'insane'......I have always taught my kids the number one rule in life is keep your options open.....never close one down until you are forced to. I do the same as you re: GP and keep property in the UK and visit the UK for 30 plus days each tax year

NIC are ring fenced to an extent....the government can borrow from the pot, on the promise to pay it back.

She was clever in that respect......mortgaging the future to save the present (and her skin). Police, armed forces, fire services......all received amazing deals whilst she sold off the family silver to pay for it all (at least in the short term).

Reading the Harvard Business Review it is claimed the most successful appointments to say a supervisory/management role is to allow the team, who will be working for the new appointee, to choose!!! Interesting.

I recall from my days of doing an MBA a lecturer explaining most interviewers make a yes/no decision within the first 30 seconds of an interview. The rest of the interview is then structured to support that choice.......frightening.!
