I'd like to see the Olympics return to something more 'normal'...'traditional*****'.....standard track and field events. It has developed into a money making opportunity, not a celebration of supreme athleticism. You could still have the other stuff, but hive it off. Maybe quite as far back as the original sports.....**** The original Olympic Games, held in ancient Greece at Olympia, are traditionally dated to 776 BCE. These early Games featured a small number of events, which gradually expanded over time. The original events included: 1. **Stadion Race (Stade Race)**: The stadion was the oldest event in the Olympics, a short foot race covering about 192 meters (the length of the stadium). It was the only event in the first 13 Olympic Games. 2. **Diaulos**: Introduced in 724 BCE, this was a double-stadion race, equivalent to two lengths of the stadium (approximately 384 meters). 3. **Dolichos**: Added in 720 BCE, this was a long-distance race ranging between 7 to 24 stadia (roughly 1,500 to 4,800 meters). The exact distance varied. 4. **Pentathlon**: Introduced in 708 BCE, the pentathlon consisted of five events: stadion race, wrestling, long jump, javelin throw, and discus throw. 5. **Wrestling (Pale)**: Also introduced in 708 BCE, wrestling was a key event where competitors aimed to throw their opponents to the ground three times. 6. **Boxing (Pygmachia)**: Boxing was introduced in 688 BCE. Contestants fought with leather straps on their hands and the match continued until one fighter gave up or was incapacitated. 7. **Pankration**: Added in 648 BCE, the pankration was a brutal combination of wrestling and boxing with minimal rules, allowing almost all forms of combat except biting and eye-gouging. 8. **Equestrian Events**: Starting in 680 BCE, horse and chariot races were added. The tethrippon (four-horse chariot race) was the first equestrian event, followed by others like the horseback race (keles). 9. **Hoplitodromos**: Introduced in 520 BCE, this race involved participants running in armor, carrying a shield, and sometimes wearing a helmet and greaves. It was meant to simulate the skills needed for combat. These events reflect the values of physical fitness, skill, and warrior prowess that were highly esteemed in ancient Greek society. The original Olympic Games continued to evolve and eventually expanded to include more events before they were abolished in the 4th century CE.

The latest polls for the U.S. presidential election. In a head-to-head matchup, Harris leads Trump by around 3 percentage points, with Harris polling at 51% to Trump’s 48%. This margin has shifted significantly in Harris’s favor following President Biden’s withdrawal from the race, reflecting growing support for her among independents and other key voter groups. I wonder if the Republicans are plotting a coup (piano wire awaits?)..........they seriously need to consider dumping him before it is too late.

There is some evidence suggesting that certain fabric conditioners (also known as fabric softeners) might pose health risks, particularly for individuals with sensitivities or allergies, as well as potential environmental concerns. Here are a few points to consider: ### 1. **Chemical Ingredients** - **Fragrances**: Many fabric softeners contain artificial fragrances, which can trigger allergies, asthma, and skin irritations in sensitive individuals. Some synthetic fragrances can contain phthalates, which are chemicals linked to hormone disruption. - **Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (Quats)**: Quats are commonly used in fabric softeners for their antibacterial properties, but they have been associated with respiratory irritation, asthma, and skin irritation. - **Preservatives**: Some fabric softeners contain preservatives like methylisothiazolinone, which can cause allergic reactions, especially in those with sensitive skin. ### 2. **Health Risks** - **Skin Irritation**: People with sensitive skin or eczema may find that fabric softeners exacerbate their condition due to the chemicals used. - **Respiratory Issues**: Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) released from the fragrances in fabric softeners can contribute to indoor air pollution and respiratory issues, especially in people with asthma or other lung conditions. ### 3. **Environmental Concerns** - **Water Pollution**: Chemicals from fabric softeners can end up in waterways after being washed out of clothing, potentially harming aquatic life. - **Biodegradability**: Many fabric softeners contain ingredients that are not easily biodegradable, contributing to environmental pollution. ### 4. **Alternatives** - **Natural Options**: Some people choose to use alternatives like white vinegar or wool dryer balls as natural fabric softeners, which may reduce exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. - **Hypoallergenic Products**: There are also hypoallergenic fabric softeners designed for people with sensitivities, though it's still essential to check the ingredients. While these concerns don't mean that fabric conditioners are universally unhealthy, it is essential to be mindful of the potential risks, especially if you have sensitivities, and to choose products that align with your health and environmental priorities.

This could put the powers that be in a sticky position.......dissolving the MFP, which quickly reforms under a different name is one thing........putting 44 MPs in jail, with substantial prison sentences, is a whole new ball game. -
