  1. Can you prove we are a 3D world trapped inside a X dimensional world.? Unfalsifiable assertians are like, well, you know, the thing. How about this one? Can you prove we're not free-range gut bacteria floating inside the large intestine of an immensely powerful, omniscient, and all-loving universe and skittles farting technicolor unicorn?
  2. You didn't need an onward flight, which is a wonderful anecdote to tell the grandkids. I was required to show an onward ticket flying Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong, arriving visa exempt. No tickee, no boardee! From these two data points, how are we to determine which passengers will be asked for an onward ticket at the check-in counter? Short answer -- we can't. Best to be prepared. $14 is cheap insurance.
  3. Lift the wheel up and "plink" each spoke with a screwdriver. They should all play the same note. I assume you don't have a truing stand. Raise the rear end by running a broomhandle through the rear triangle, suspended on a couple of chairs. Having the front wheel in a corner of the room will help stabilize. Have a seat behind the bike, hold a straw or chopstick on one seatstay so that there is about 1/2-mm gap between the stick/straw and the side of the rim near the tire bead. Spin the wheel slowly, listen for the rim rubbing against the straw, watch for the gap getting wider. You also want to note whether the edge of the rim is at a constant height or has low or high spots as you rotate. Do this on both sides.
  4. In that case carry a photocopy of the passport ID page, or a photo on his cellphone. Don't offer the physical passport for domestic transport.
  5. Hard to tell. Could you maybe wash the dirt and crud off the wheel and take some close up photos of the potential damage?
  6. Take a VIP coach bus and stow your bike underneath in the cargo bays, no box or bag required. A full size road bike will fit, no problem for a folding bike. Smaller local buses may have more limited cargo capacity.
  7. MFA at CW has been undergoing renovations, the 2nd floor translator booths in the building have been removed. The lady at the 'information' desk on the second floor told us no translators in the building. There were a few touts hanging around the second floor near the top of the escalator offering translation services, if you trust random folks with poor English.
  8. If he has internet access and not in rush to board, he can book a "rent a ticket" from the recommended $14 shop. A confirmation email shows up almost immediately, and the booking shows on the airline website within five minutes. (my experience - one data point)
  9. Consider either booking an appointment at Khlong Toie, and arrange with a translation agency for quick turnaround. These are simple documents that they should already have templates for. Or take your notarized documents back to Chiang Mai and do the translation and legalization there. You don't want the MFA in Chiang Mai reject one of your documents due to a transliteration error, requiring a revised translation from your agency in Bangkok.
  10. Not sure, but probably still are. I had other business at CW, and didn't mind stopping at MFA twice.
  11. Did this just a couple months ago. There is a translation agency in the teak house across the street from the MFA at Chang Wattana, charging 300 baht/page. SongThai Translation. You can email them a scan of your documents for pickup the next morning, convenient if you've made an appointment at the MFA for getting your notarized documents legalized. https://qlegal.consular.go.th/ They're on facebook. https://web.facebook.com/Songthaitranslation?_rdc=1&_rdr Your four pages will cost you 200 baht/page for legalization at the MFS. I believe they have EMS return service if you don't want to make another trip to pick up your documents 3 days later.
  12. I bought True "wireless broadband plus" router, which I believe is locked to their system. Two removable antennae, 2 LAN ports, up to 32 wireless users. It was on promotion for 1000 baht. Fast and easy set up, small package, fits in a briefcase. Then got an unlimited True sim card, too expensive according to posters here, at 699/month. Should have shopped around, but I wanted it "now." Minimum 3-month contract. Have been using it in Bangkok (5th floor condo) and rural Korat for two months, both locations dependable service 20-30 mbps. Will cancel the sim next month when we have True fiber installed in the house. Good news. Both True and 3BBB in this area ask for a work permit for foreigner to install fiber on a yearly contract, but after a call to the main office, showing a bank passbook is sufficient.
  13. Arrived with 30-day visa waiver, applied for non-O retirement at CW, no insurance. First extension of stay. No lease in my name. Had gf's rental contract, ID card and tabian ban, and statement from her confirming I live at same address.
  14. ***oops! Noticed this is in the CM forum. The following is for Bangkok/Mochit*** If you still have valid US license, you can get new Thai licenses based on that, assuming you have motorcycle endorsement. You don't, but you can still renew your Thai licenses. You'll have to take the written test, but no driving test required. You'll need a certificate of residence (from CW immigration AFTER your first 90-day report), OR a notarized affidavit from the US embassy ($50). There's also an online training module you need to complete, and download a QR scan code to print off. Take your old Thai licenses, residence affidavit, QR scan code, and health check to apply. They'll have you go upstairs for the vision/reaction tests, and will give you an appointment to return for the computerized test. You'll take the same test twice if getting two licenses. This is one day only, but it's one long day. 3-4 hours of videos starting at 8:30, an hour for lunch, then testing in the afternoon.
  15. This is for a first annual retirement extension based on 800K in the bank. Made online bookings for today 1:00PM for extension, 2:40PM for re-entry. Took an early bus, concerned about traffic thru Lat Phrao, planned to get the bank statement and copies done before lunch. Bus #150 from Bangkapi Mall area dropped off at the entrance of the immigration soi at 9:45. Arrived at Bangkok Bank downstairs at 10:00, only one number ahead of me. Got bankbook updated with balance forward (no deposit needed) and guarantee letter, done by 10:15. Made copies and then went directly to the L1 counter at 10:30. Told the nice lady I had a booking, she checked my name on the list. Yes, I'm early, but no waiting. Take a seat at #25 to go over documents - TM-30 was requested, printed screenshot from sec 38 app was accepted - then to see the immigration official, again no waiting. . Fifteen minutes to sign and stamp papers, then wait five minutes for name to be called. Visa extension complete at 11:10. Back downstairs for copies. Back upstairs, go directly to the C2 counter at 11:20. Told the nice lady I had a booking, she checked my name on the list. Yes, I'm early, but no waiting. Take a seat, sign some forms, take a photo, go sit outside. Re-entry complete at 11:30. Total time on site: 90 minutes.
  16. District office? Do you mean the local amphur where you apply for the marriage certificate? That is, getting married in Thailand, not registering a marriage performed in another country. If so, there is no check done. Just last month, honey-bunny and I (currently residing in Bangkok) went to the amphur in Korat where we plan to move to soon, handed over the legalized documents, and walked out married half an hour later, 20 baht poorer.
  17. Thanks..............I think? I'm going by all the threads on this here forum that tell me it's not required to change the address on your licenses, that you can wait until renewal. Is that not correct? As to registrations, those will all be in girlwife's name, as will the taxes and insurance. Not having been charged with any traffic violations in the past 40+ years, I'll take my chances regarding the speeding tickets.
  18. Wasn't that changed years ago, and now it is possible to file a TM-30 by post or online?
  19. The title is what it is. Arrived in Bangkok on a visa waiver, submitted a TM-30 via the sec. 38 app. At CW, applied for a non-O visa for retirement, and now an annual extension and re-entry permit. Also got auto and motorcycle licenses with my Bangkok address using the embassy "single affidavit" in lieu of residence certificate at Mochit DLT. Planning to move to Korat soon, and already have the Korat residence registered on the sec. 38 app. Once we move, we'll submit a new TM-30 for the new residence. I think I'm done, but am I? No need to inform CW that I'm moving. The new TM-30 handles that. I go to Korat immigration for my next 90-day report in person on the date shown on the receipt given me by CW. I have a new fixed account from a Korat bank branch specifically for immigration fully funded prior to receiving the annual extension, balance forward updated every 60 days or so if I need to show funds have remained in the bank. (not the same account as used at CW to apply for visa and extension) No need to inform Korat that I've arrived. The new TM-30 handles that, as well. First contact with Korat will be the first 90-day report. As to vehicle licenses, I can wait until renewal time to change the address. What have I forgotten?
  20. I think you mean OPODO Here's the contact/help page. https://www.opodo.com/customer-service/#/ Bottom right, click the chat where it says "How can we help". Type "talk to agent" May have to do that a few times, answer a few questions. Should get to a live human shortly.
  21. It's not as much the looking too small, but the cramped feeling that my knees are up around my earlobes.
  22. Former bike was a Concours which also felt too small. Added peg lowers, bar risers and taller tires. CB250 looks interesting, new model is twister? I'll get out of the apartment and do some in-person research once i get over the covids.
  23. I'm looking for a suitable small motorcycle for me and the new missus. This will be solely for use around a mid-sized town in Issan with good roads and light traffic. No Bangkok traffic, no highway use, no long trips, although I'll probably occasionally ride solo to Korat. I've looked at some of the popular scooters, but I don't seem to fit. 1.90m, 34L inseam, size 47 shoes. They all feel like circus clown tricycles. Any recommendations for a sub-400cc bike for a taller guy? Prefer a cruiser style, not a crotch-rocket. I'm looking for something like a Honda Phantom 200, Kawa W250, Keeway K-Light 200, Zongshen Ryuka RK125, Lifan 250. Any comments about these concerning quality or sizing? Currently, leaning towards a Centaur CT-170i.....
  24. I don't think so. I went directly to the booking page and made two new appointments, and was planning to cancel tomorrow's bookings next. I didn't realize there was a "reschedule" button (but no 'cancel' button) on the original confirmation, only looking at the reminder email received today. It seems I still have two sets of appointments. There doesn't seem to be a way to get into the system and cancel open bookings.
